1.1 Application Scenarios

Upgrade the firmware version of the SNS2124, SNS2224, SNS2248, SNS3096, SNS5192,
and SNS5384 Fibre Channel switches from v7.2.1 to v7.4.0a.

1.2 Upgrade Schemes

Online upgrade: It is highly reliable and available and can be performed when services are
ongoing. After the firmware file is downloaded, the system automatically upgrades it by
default.

1.3 Version Requirements

The current firmware version of SNS2124, SNS2224, SNS2248, SNS3096, SNS5192, and
SNS5384 is v7.2.1. These switches cannot be upgraded to the target version skipping
intermediate versions.
To upgrade v7.2.1 to v7.4.0a, first upgrade v7.2.1 to v7.3.0b and then v7.3.0b to v7.4.0a.

1.4 Upgrade Modes

1.4.1 Mode 1: Web GUI
Log in to Web Tools and download the firmware file from the SFTP or SCP server. Then the
firmware is installed automatically.

1.4.2 Mode 2: CLI

Download the firmware file from the SFTP or SCP server to the switch using command-line
interface (CLI). The firmware will then be installed automatically.

1.5 Impact of the Upgrade

Before you upgrade an earlier version to this version, read this section carefully to understand
the possible impacts of the upgrade on the existing system.

1.5.1 Impact on the System During the Upgrade

Impact on Services
None

Impact on Network Communication

During the upgrade, the switch will run the haReboot (high availability reboot) command to
reboot the software, and the network will be interrupted for approximately 10 seconds.

1.6 Upgrade Precautions

1. An upgrade on the Web GUI must be performed in Internet Explorer 6, Java 1.7or later.
2. During the upgrade, ensure a stable Ethernet to successfully download the firmware file
to the switch.
3. During the upgrade, ensure that the switch is not interrupted.
4. Before the upgrade, configure the SFTP or SCP server and save the firmware file to the
SFTP or SCP directory.
5. The default system provides SCP and SFTP protocols for upgrade. FTP protocol is off
by default, you can contact Huawei engineers to open it.
6. The SNS2124, SNS2224, SNS2248, SNS3096, SNS5192, and SNS5384 Fibre Channel
switches have two management boards CP0 and CP1. Check whether Ethernet ports
configured on the two boards have been connected to the customer's network. Please
upgrade FOS by connecting chassis IP or active CP’s IP.
7. The SNS switch canceled the Fabric Watch function in 7.4.0a and replaced by the MAPS
function. If the Fabric Watch feature is enabled on the switch and the user wants to retain
the Fabric Watch policy after upgrading to 7.4.0a, be sure to read the following
instructions:
a.If the current version of the SNS switch is 7.1.0a, please upgrade to 7.2.1 first, then
perform the Fabric Watch migration procedure, and finally upgrade to 7.4.0a.
b. If the current version of the SNS switch is 7.2.1, first perform the Fabric Watch
migration procedure, and then upgrade to 7.4.0a.
c. Fabric Watch migration steps: Execute the mapsconfig --fwconvert command
through the CLI, and then execute the command mapspolicy --show -summary to query,
you can see three MAPS policys about Fabric Watch.

3.2 Obtaining Upgrade Reference Documents

3.2.1 Downloading the upgrade package and signature file
You can obtain the upgrade software and documents from

You must apply for the permission to obtain the documents and software.

Step 1 Go to http://support.huawei.com.
Step 2 Enter User ID and Password. Click Log In.
Step 3 Support > Product Support > IT > Storage > United Storage > Storage Network >
OceanStor SNS2248.
Step 4 Download the following version software and documents of SNS2124, SNS2224, SNS2248,
SNS3096, SNS5192, SNS5384 V100R002C00SPC200:
Firmware v7.3.0b (for the first step of the upgrade) and v7.4.0a (for the second step of the
upgrade)
Release Notes: released with the software

3.2.2 OpenPGP Download

1. Access http://support.huawei.com/enterprise/, click Log In, and enter the user name and password
to log in.
2. If it is your first login, register with the website and get the approval. If you are a registered user, go
to the next step.
3. Visit http://support.huawei.com/carrier/digitalSignatureAction. Click "OpenPGP Signature
Verification Guide".

4. On the "OpenPGP Signature Verification Guide" page, click the download icon.

5. On the Downloads page that is displayed, download "KEYS" and "VerificationTools.zip". See
Figure 4. The "KEYS" file contains the public keys. "VerificationTools.zip" contains
"PGPVerify.exe", which is an easy-to-use PGP verification tool developed by Huawei.

3.2.3 Checking the Integrity of the Upgrade Package

This section describes how to check the integrity of the upgrade package.

Use an OpenPGP signature verification tool to check upgrade package integrity. It is recommended
that you use "PGPVerify.exe", an easy-to-use PGP verification tool developed by Huawei. For
details about how to obtain the tool and public keys, see Downloading Tools and the Upgrade
Package. For details about how to use the tool, see the OpenPGP Signature Verification Guide that is
available at http://support.huawei.com/carrier/digitalSignatureAction.

1. Double-click PGPVerify.exe to open the OpenPGP signature verification tool. Click Select Public Key.

2. Select the KEYS file and click Single Verify.

3. Select the signature file used with the upgrade package and check upgrade package integrity. If PASS is
displayed in the Results column and the entry is green, the upgrade package integrity check is passed.
Otherwise, please confirm the correctness of the upgrade package and its supporting signature file.

3.3.1 Checking the Firmware Version on the Web Management
Page
Log in to a switch in a browser. For example, enter the username (admin by default) and
password (Huawei12#$ by default) to log in to SNS5192 (the default IP addresses of CP0 and
CP1 are 10.77.77.75 and 10.77.77.74 respectively). In the lower part of the main window of
Web Tools, click Switch Information to check the firmware version. Ensure that the current
switch version can be upgraded to the target version.

3.3.2 Checking the Firmware Version on the CLI

Log in to a switch using Secure Shell (SSH). For example, enter the username (admin by
default) and password (Huawei12#$ by default) to log in to SNS5192 (the default IP
addresses of CP0 and CP1 are 10.77.77.75 and 10.77.77.74 respectively). Run the version
command and check the value of Fabric OS. Ensure that the current switch version can be
upgraded to the target version.

3.4 Obtaining Upgrade Software and Tools

Required tools:
1. Internet Explorer 6 or later (Java 1.7 or later)
2. SSH
Required software:
The firmware software of this version is V100R002C00SPC200 and the firmware version
must be v7.4.0a.

3.5 Checking the Status of Devices

Refer to the OceanStor SNS2124&NS2224&SNS2248&SNS3096&SNS5192&SNS5394 FC
Switch Product Documentation. In the documentation, read General Information to check
whether the hardware is running properly.

3.6 Backing Up Configuration Data

On the CLI, run the configupload command. Save the switch configuration file to the SFTP
or SCP server as prompted.

3.7 Exporting Support Information

On the CLI, run the supportsave command and enter SFTP server information. Then save the
support files of the switch to the SFTP server. In the following figure, sns5192 is a folder on
the SFTP server.

4.1 Procedure for Upgrading the Firmware

WARNING
If multiple switches running services on the live network needs to be upgraded, you must
upgrade one at a time. Leave an interval of 2 minutes before upgrading the next switch Back
up configuration and support data before the upgrade (see 3.6 Backing Up Configuration Data
and 3.7 Exporting Support Information).

4.1.1 Upgrading In Web GUI

Step 1 In the Web Tools page, choose Configure > Switch Admin and the Switch Administration
page is displayed.

Step 2 For SNS5192 and SNS5384 Run the haShow command to check whether primary and
secondary CP blades are synchronized.
In the following example, the primary CP blade is CP0 and the secondary CP is CP1.

Step 3 On the Switch Administration page, click the Firmware Download tab. In the Firmware
Key Information area, enter information as prompted:
Step 4 Select Network for Select Source of image (USB is not recommended because it can only be
used on dedicated USB devices.).
Set the SCP server information and specify the firmware file path on the SCP server.

Step 5 Click Download. In the dialog box that is displayed, click Yes to download the firmware file.
After the download is complete, the switch will upgrade the firmware automatically. Log in to
Web Tools again after the upgrade.

Step 6 (Optional) During the upgrade, run the firmwaredownloadstatus command to view real-time
upgrade status and procedure.

"The Server Is Inaccessible or Firmware Path Is Invalid" Is
Displayed
When you start downloading firmware, the switch displays "The server is inaccessible or
firmware path is invalid" and you cannot download the firmware file.

[Solution]
1. Close the message box.
2. Check that the SFTP or SCP server information and the firmware file path are correct.
Then download the firmware again.

5.2 Verifying the Firmware Version

Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the upgraded switch using Web Tools.

Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the upgraded switch using Web Tools.
Step 2 Choose Switch Administration > Firmware Download and view Current Firmware
Information. The firmware versions of the primary and secondary partitions must be v7.4.0a.

6.1 A.1 No Login Dialog Box Is Displayed After the IP

Question
No login dialog box is displayed after the IP address is entered in the browser. How to resolve
it?

Answer
You can resolve this problem by performing the following operations:
1. Check whether the IP addresses can be pinged.
2. Check whether the browser supports Java Applet (Java 1.7 or later is required).
3. Check whether Java Applet is disabled in the browser.
4. Check whether you have installed Java 1.7. After you enter an IP address, Java 1.7 may
generate an alarm for you to decide whether to disable the program. If you select No or
close the alarm, no login dialog box will be displayed.
5. If this is your initial login, wait a few minutes for the browser to download Java Applet
from the device.

6.2 A.2 Fillwords Do not Match

Question
If an SNS 2124 switch is connected to other devices and the port rate is set to 8 Gbit/s,
fillwords of the switch and other devices do not match with each other. This problem affects
normal services. How to avoid it?

Answer
SNS2124 is an 8 Gbit/s switch and is OEMed from Brocade. When the port rate is set to 8
Gbit/s, the fillword sent by a Brocade 8 Gbit/s switch is IDLE (non-industry standard),
different from the fillword ARB (ff) (industry standard) sent by other devices. The
inconsistency of the fillwords between two switches disconnects the link. Frames will be lost
and the link becomes unreachable.
Modify the fillword of the Brocade switch to resolve this problem. Multiple fillwords are
available for a Brocade 8 Gbit/s switch. The default fillword is IDLE/IDLE when the port
rate is 8 Gbit/s. Modify the fillwords to avoid this problem:
1. Log in to the CLI of the Brocade switch.
2. Run the portcfgfillword 0 1 command to modify the fillword of port 0 to
ARBFF/ARBFF (consistent with the fillword of other devices). The connection will
then be recovered.

6.3 A.3 Web Tools Cannot Be Opened

Question

Upgrade the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to 1.7 or later.

Answer
You can resolve this problem by performing the following operations:
1. Ping SFTP server from the switch, check the network.
2. Ensure FTP server's firewall is turned off.
3. Make sure the upgrade packages are stored in a directory consistent with the CLI filled
directory.
