Upgrade Guide 01 1 Before You Start
1.5.1 Impact on the System During the Upgrade
Upgrade Principles
Each system has two permanent storage partitions (primary/secondary) that stores the
firmware image file. During the upgrade, the firmware downloading process loads a new
image file to the secondary partition. Then, a switchover is performed between primary and
secondary partitions and the system is restarted (which has no impact on the system by
strength of the HA feature). After the system is restarted, the new firmware is in the active
status. The firmware downloading process copies the new image file from the primary
partition to the secondary partition.
Upgrade Rollback
If the firmware downloading process is interrupted due to an unexpected restart operation, the
system automatically recovers the secondary partition. You cannot run the
firmwareDownload command until the secondary partition is completely recovered. No
manual operation needs to be considered for rollback.
Impact on Services
None
Impact on Network Communication
During the upgrade, the involved switch executes the haReboot (high availability reboot) task,
so the network connection is unavailable for about 10 seconds during the reboot process.
1.5.2 Impact on the System After the Upgrade
None
1.6 Precautions

2. During the firmware upgrade process, the connectivity of the management IP network of
the involved switch must be normal, so that the firmware file can be successfully
downloaded to the switch.
3. Before the upgrade, the SFTP or SCP server must be properly configured, and the
firmware file must be saved in the directory of the SFTP or SCP server.
4. The SCP and SFTP protocols are used for upgrades by default. The FTP protocol is
insecure and thereby is disabled. If you want to use the FTP protocol, contact Huawei
engineers.
5. OceanStor SNS5192 and SNS5384 have two management boards (CP boards). The
Ethernet ports on CP0 and CP1 must be connected to the user's network, and the chassis
IP address or the IP address of the active CP is connected for upgrade.
