Gourp 1 Research Proposal Presentation 1.1

This research proposal aims to investigate students' perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on their attitudes, concerns, and potential opportunities related to its use in education. The study will involve 190 Grade 12 Senior High School students and utilize a descriptive quantitative research design with a structured survey to gather data on their understanding and ethical considerations of AI. The findings are intended to inform educators and institutions on improving AI literacy and responsible technology use among students.

Introduction of
the Study
Our purpose of this study is to investigate how
students perceive AI and to identify any concerns,
especially with regarding ethical issues. By addressing
these problems, students will use AI ethically and think
about its effects. Additionally, the results can be used
by educators and institutions to improve AI literacy
and instructional methodologies. The learners will
acquire insight into AI, which will help them use
technology responsibly and consider its ethical
implications.
Literary Review
According the study of, Alvarado et al. (2021) found that American students frequently see AI
as a futuristic idea without realizing its application in education and other fields today.
Additionally, Zhang et al. (2022) noted that Chinese students showed a lack of knowledge on
AI's ethical implications, including data security and privacy. Research conducted locally by
Dela Cruz and Ramos (2021) and Reyes & Bautista (2022) has proven that Filipino students
have similar concerns regarding rights and privacy.

Both globally and locally, students both lack of

understanding in terms of using AI technology, their critical
thinking are poor. This study recommends developing
complete policies that incorporate AI knowledge into
educational curriculum and guarantee ethical
considerations such as user opportunities, attitudes, and
concerns.
Problem Statement

Many students are unaware about the functions, benefits, and

ethical issues of (AI), despite the technology's growing use in
education. Misconceptions and concerns over AI's role in education
could lead to resistance to the technology's application or misuse.
This study aims to examine students' understanding of AI and
identify their concerns, particularly ethical issues.
Research Question
This study aims to determine the perception of students in the use of
AI. The integration of AI into everyday activities raises questions
about how students perceive its role and potential implications for
their future. Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following
research questions!

1. How do students view the role of AI in everyday life and

future developments?

2. What concerns do students have about the impact of AI

on society and jobs?

3. What potential opportunities do students see for

themselves in the growing field of AI?
Scope and
Limitations
The study will investigate how 190 officially enrolled in Senior
students view the advantages and High School (SHS) students in
disadvantages of artificial Grade 12 will be a participants in
intelligence in the classroom. he the data collection process at
study will also evaluate ethical Ernesto Rondon High School. The
problems raised by the use of AI in study will take place in the
the classroom, such as those second semester of the S.Y
pertaining to bias, fairness, and 2024–2025 .
responsible technology use.
Research Methodology
This study will use a descriptive quantitative research design, utilizing a
structured survey questionnaire to gathered data. this approach is most
appropriate as allow for the efficient collection of numerical data from a
large group of respondents providing insight into perceptions of AI.

SAMPLING
The respondents for this study will consist of 190 Grade 12 Senior High School
students from Ernesto Rondon High School. Participants will be selected using
random sampling to ensure proportional representation across different sections,
Information and Communication Technology (ICT- A) 33 students, (ICT-B) 34
students, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) 45 students, and Home Economics
(HE-A and B) both have a 39 students each.
DATA COLLECTION
PROCESS
We are using the survey questionnare to gathered data on
students’ knowledge, attitudes, and ethical concerns regarding
the use of AI in education.

The questionnare will consist of 15 items, its divided into three

part. The first part is the demographic profile. Second part is AI
awareness, compromising five items to evaluate students’
understanding of AI concepts and applications. The third and
last part is attitudes and ethical concerns toward AI. We are
using the Gforms to distribute the questionnare to the
participants.

Each question will be measured on a 5-point likert scale, with

responses ranging from 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 -
Neutral 4 - Agree and 5 - Strongly Agree.
Ethical Consideration
This study process will be conducted in keeping with ethical standards.
All participants will provide their informed approval. Participants will
be guaranteed confidentiality and privacy, and no personal data will
be gathered.

The fact that participation is completely voluntary and that withdrawal

is free of any implications will also be explained to them. In order to
ensure the safe keeping and use of the data gathered, the study will
also adhere to privacy laws
Plan for Data Analysis
Descriptive methods of statistical
analysis will be used in the study to
examine the information gathered
from the survey questionnare. This
method provides a straightforward
and comprehensive interpretation of
the data.
