for more than two weeks. Then he

gently pushed his way out and...he
became a beautiful butterfly!

Mostly, we form adverb of manner by
adding –ly to the adjective. Usually, adverb
of manner ends in –ly but not all the time.

Beautiful + ly= beautifully
Soft + ly= softly
Examples of Adverb of Manner
Some adverbs of manner are formed by
adding –ly to adjectives.
Examples:
The turtle is slow. The turtle moves
slowly.
The boy is quick. The boy runs quickly.
If an adjective ends with -e, remove the –e
before adding –ly.
Examples: simple-simply
gentle– gently
If an adjective ends with –y, change the –y
to –i before adding –ly.
Examples: angry– angrily
noisy– noisily

The Boastful King
Once upon a time, there was a king
who ruled harshly over the lands. One
night, after
he was mightily crowned as the emperor,
he boastfully thought of himself as the
greatest on
earth and in heaven.
He often went hunting. Early
morning, while in the deep woods, he
swiftly swam to cool
himself in the lake. He swam fast away
from the shore. Suddenly, there came from
the bottom
of the lake someone who had the same
face and form as he is. This man quickly
put on the
king’s clothes and drove away with the
king’s horse. When the proud king was
finished cooling
himself, he found his clothes and horse
already gone.
