In the energy domain we have a vacancy for a

Post-doc on Life cycle assessment (LCA) and


communica7on – Carbon footprin7ng.

The successful applicant will become members of


the Department F.-A. Forel for Environmental and
Aqua@c Sciences, Faculty of Sciences and they
will be housed by the inter-faculty Ins@tute for
Environmental Sciences
(ISE, hDp://www.unige.ch/environnement) that is
ac@ve in cross-disciplinary research in the
domains of energy, climate change, surface
waters, urban ecology other sustainability
domains. The ins@tute represents an enthusias@c,
dynamic and interna@onal working environment.
It oIers an interdisciplinary Master programme in
Environmental Sciences (MUSE) with a track on
Energy to which the successful candidate will
contribute.

Project and job descrip7on:

Climate and energy policy play key roles in the


European Union’s energy and climate policy, in
Switzerland’s Energy Strategy 2050 and in the
energy plans prepared by Swiss cantons. Buildings
and transport are among the largest sources of
CO2, causing more than half of all Swiss
greenhouse gas emissions. Further important
sources of greenhouse gas emissions in
Switzerland are the produc@on of industrial
goods, agriculture and other sectors (e.g. waste
management). The emissions caused by all these
sectors and ac@vi@es need to be dras@cally
reduced at an unprecedented rate, resul@ng in net
zero emissions by 2050.

The 2050Today ini@a@ve deals with the dras@c


reduc@on of CO2 emissions in interna@onal
Geneva, the so-called 2050Today community
(hDps://2050today.org/2050today-members/). In
Urst instance, the project aims to accelerate
decarbonisa@on by providing prac@cal guidance
and carbon footprint analysis based on
accompanying research linked to M.Sc.
programmes at University of Geneva. The
development of joint mul@-stakeholders projects
to reduce CO2 emissions will be key to enhance
further ini@al endeavours.

The post-doc posi@on associated with the


2050Today ini@a@ve deals with organisa@on,
science-based advice and encouragement related
to carbon footprin@ng and LCA in interna@onal
Geneva. The post-doctoral researcher will be in
charge of data collec@on, modelling, carbon
footprint assessment, interpreta@on and
communica@on, thereby collabora@ng with a
project group including representa@ves of UN
member States, interna@onal organisa@ons, civil
society en@@es, local authori@es, students and
researchers. The post-doc will help to guide and
further develop the ac@vi@es of 2050Today, to
strengthen the rela@onships with its members
and widely communicate its ac@vi@es (also in the
form of scien@Uc publica@ons).

Requirements:

The posi@on oIers unique opportuni@es to the


successful candidates to further develop a wide
range of analy@c and modelling skills,
presenta@on and repor@ng skills and networking
in a cuYng-edge R&D areas that are essen@al for
the energy transi@on, na@onally and
interna@onally. Candidates should have a
Master’s degree respec@vely in physics,
engineering or environmental sciences and they
must be able to combine thorough technical
understanding with economic assessment and
broader aspects of the energy transi@on. Good
knowledge of English is a necessity and good
knowledge of French and/or German is a clear
advantage.

The requirements for the post-doc posi@on


associated with the 2050Today ini@a@ve are:
approximately Uve years or more of experience as
consultant and researcher on prac@cal case
studies related to carbon footprin@ng and LCA,
ability and interest to simultaneously conduct
several projects, experience in project execu@on
and project management as well as enthusiasm to
support interna@onal organisa@ons in Geneva and
to guide students. In addi@on to English, a good
command of French is required.

Condi7ons of employment:

We oIer an ini@al 1-year appointment with


planned further extension by at least three
further years. The salary will be in accordance
with the regula@ons at the University of Geneva.
