Rain Hazards and Precautions
Rain makes the conditions of site to be dangerous and hazardous. Therefore, it is very
important to check the site condition immediate after the rain to ensure that the
conditions are safe to work specially excavation conditions, risky electrical usages and
slippery surfaces which can be dangerous due to rain.
To protect workers from rain hazard we should take following precautions:
✓ A competent person should be appointed for the inspection of all excavations immediate after rain. He shall be an
experienced and be capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards of excavation and surroundings.
✓ Rain could erode and loosen open trenches causing the sides to collapse. Sides of
✓ excavation and trenches should be reinforced or secured prior to start work.
✓ Provide sufficient and safe access into, out of and across excavation and trenches and you are required to use it.
✓ Keep clear walk way, road, and sidewalks material from the edge of excavations.
✓ Do not work in an excavation unless there is at least 2 workers available
✓ Install suitable barrier for prevention of falling the vehicle, persons into the excavation.
✓ Electrical outlets and power tools should be protected and kept inside shade to avoid water to enter into outlet
during rain and stop the usage immediately until completion of electrical inspection.
✓ Hang and move up all power cable above ground to prevent submersion under water.
✓ Vehicle intersection and pedestrian access need to be cleaned up as soon as possible. Slip can happen due to loosen
muds.
✓ Slip could happen due to muds on shoes when ascending or descending on ladder or stair cases please check your
shoes and remove muds before climbing.
✓ Vehicle drivers should pay attention to road condition and drive carefully during and after rainfall.
✓ In preparation for the rainy days, please check and take the consideration for the cleaning of swale and manholes.
Accumulated wastes it might contribute to the blocking of water ways or drainage.
