The Infinera Wet Plant Link Manager (WPLM) is a graphical tool used to manage the Alcatel Lucent
Submarine Wet Plant. The Infinera Wet Plant Link Manager (WPLM) is installed and run from a Linux
server that has IP connectivity to the Infinera network element (DTN) with an OTC housing the Submarine
Control Module (SCM). The WPLM operates independently of other Infinera management products.
Repeaters and Equalizers that form the Wet Plant are managed and monitored by the WPLM.
This chapter includes the following sections:
“Release 3.0 Feature Summary” on page 1-4
The Infinera WPLM Client (referred to as WPLM Client) provides a graphical user interface to per-
form remote management of the submarine links. The WPLM client is accessible using a web
browser. Multiple clients can be launched simultaneously and operations can be performed from
each client. Each client is authenticated by the WPLM username and password.
Feature Description
PM Statistics Reports Starting Release 3.0, WPLM is enhanced to support PM data comparison.
MFM Starting Release 3.0, WPLM uses both Submarine Control Module (SCM) or Multi-
function Module (MFM) FRU to communicate with submarine network elements.
Fault Management
Infinera WPLM provides fault monitoring and management capabilities related to changes to an network
entity, operations performed on those network entities, or any failure conditions in the submarine link
system. Any failure condition raises an alarm. Any changes to the network entity or any operations on the
network entity creates an event.
Fault Management is divided into the following two categories:
Alarms— Alarms can be managed from the Alarm Manager that displays all outstanding conditions
(alarms) in a tabular form. Alarm Manager instances can be launched simultaneously based on two
contexts: network level and link level.
The Alarm Manager is used to view alarm details, sort the alarms, filter alarms based on various
alarm attributes, acknowledge alarms, and export alarm information. For more information see,
“Alarm Management” on page 5-5.
Events— Events can be managed from the Event Manager that displays all events in a tabular
form. Event Manager instances can be launched simultaneously based on two contexts: network
level and link level.
The Event Manager is used to view event details, sort the events, filter events based on various
event attributes, and export event information. For more information see, “Event Management” on
page 5-26.
See “Fault Management” on page 5-1 for procedural details.

Fault Management
This chapter describes the Fault Management applications provided by the DTN and the Optical Line
Amplifier network elements (referred to as network element) in the following sections:
“Overview” on page 5-2
Note: All the date and time parameters described/referred to in this document will be in the user
configured time zone unless otherwise specified.
Overview
The fault monitoring and management capabilities of Infinera WPLM allows:
Monitoring alarms and events detected by the WPLM server.
Alarms
An alarm is an indication of a failure condition. Alarms are assigned severities as critical, major, minor and
warning, depending on the degree of service degradation or disruption. Using the Alarm Severity Profile
Settings tool, users can edit the assigned severities.
Alarms are categorized into the following categories:
Facility
Equipment
Communication
Events
Events identify changes to an entity in the network. Events indicate the operations performed through
Infinera WPLM. Events are recorded within the system and are available to management applications for
data-model synchronization and reporting. Events are stored and can be viewed in the Event Manager.
Network elements recognize the following types of notifications:
Conditions
Conditions are reported when anything other than the usual behavior of the managed network ele-
ment occurs. Conditions are further divided into the following categories:
Alarmed conditions—Conditions that require immediate action are reported as alarms. These
conditions require immediate attention, for example Intermittent Fault Flag (IFF) sets. They are
differentiated by the severity. These events are also available in the alarm list.
Threshold Crossing Alarms—These conditions are reported when there is a threshold cross-
ing.
Reporting Events
Reporting events are generated by the target network element when there is a state change in the
WPLM server. Reporting events are divided into the following categories:
Security event—Events generated when there are security violations in the WPLM server.
