Carbon Credits Grazina Klevinske

The document outlines ten projects that generate carbon credits, including tree planting, seagrass preservation, and renewable energy generation. Each project contributes to carbon sequestration or emission reduction, allowing for the quantification of carbon credits. The initiatives range from direct air capture to building electric vehicle infrastructure, highlighting diverse approaches to combat climate change.

10 PROJECTS THAT

GENERATE

CARBON
CREDITS
1
PLANT TREES
EXPECIALLY MANGROVES
This involves reforestation or afforestation projects, where
new trees are planted to absorb CO2 from the
atmosphere. These projects can generate carbon credits
by quantifying the amount of carbon sequestered as the
trees grow.

1
PRESERVE
SEAGRASS
This involves protecting and restoring coastal ecosystems
that can sequester significant amounts of carbon. Our seas
are natural carbon sinks.

2
CONVERT
AGRICULTURAL
WASTE INTO
CARBON
STORAGE

Turning crop residues into biochar or long-lasting products.

Credits reflect CO₂ kept out of the atmosphere by
preventing decomposition emissions, certified via pyrolysis
yield calculations.

3
GENERATE
RENEWABLE
ENERGY
Generating renewable energy (solar, wind) to replace fossil fuel
power.
Renewable energy projects can earn carbon credits by
displacing greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel power
plants. The credits are calculated based on the amount of clean
energy produced and the emissions avoided.

4
SEQUESTER CO2
THROUGH
DIRECT AIR
CAPTURE
Machines chemically extract CO₂ from the air and store it
underground.
Credits reward permanent geological storage.

5
SEQUESTER CO2
THROUGH
REGENERATIVE
AGRICULTURE

This method focuses on agricultural practices that enhance

soil carbon storage. Farming practices (no-till, cover crops)
boost soil carbon storage.
Credits are based on soil carbon increases measured via
sampling or remote sensing.

6
REPLACE
WOOD-BURNING
STOVES
TO EFFICIENT
STOVES
Replacing wood/charcoal stoves with cleaner-burning
alternatives.
Credits are based on reduced wood consumption (avoided
deforestation) and lower CO₂/black carbon emissions.

7
PROTECT
TREES
Conserving forests at risk of deforestation. (REDD+)
Credits equal the CO₂ emissions prevented, calculated
using historical deforestation rates and satellite monitoring.
Unfortunately, these are low quality credits that brought
controversy to carbon markets.

8
CAPTURE
METHANE
Trapping methane from landfills, farms, or mines before it
enters the atmosphere.
Credits are earned by destroying methane (28x CO₂’s
potency) via combustion or anaerobic digestion, tracked
through gas flow meters.

9
BUILD ELECTRIC
VEHICLE
INFRASTRUCTURE

Installing charging stations to enable fossil-fuel-free

transport and manufacturing electric vehicles.
Credits correlate with miles driven by EVs instead of ICE
vehicles, using regional emission factors and charging data.
