Method Statement for 3mm Epoxy

Flooring System
3mm EPOXY FLOORING SYSTEM
1. Surface Preparation:
Concrete substrates must be prepared mechanically using grinding equipment to remove
cement laitance and achieve an open textured surface. Weak concrete must be removed and
surface defects such as blowholes and voids must be fully exposed.
Repairs to the substrate, i.e., filling of blowholes/voids and surface levelling must be
carried out using appropriate repair product. All dust, loose and friable material must be
completely removed from the surface before application of the product, preferably by brush
and/or vacuum. Ensure moisture content of the concrete surface is below 4% - no rising
moisture according to ASTM D 4263.
Identify any cracks on the slab surface and cut open each crack by making a "V" groove.
Fill the groove with repair mortar.

2. Primer (FloArm Primer 1290):

To ensure proper surface preparation, apply a two-component FloArm Primer 1290 to
the prepared substrate. The components of the primer must be mixed thoroughly using a
suitable mechanical mixer operating at approximately 150-200 rpm. It is essential to achieve a
homogeneous mixture for optimal performance. Once mixed, the primer should be applied
carefully to the surface to form a continuous, pore-free coat that completely seals the substrate.
This ensures proper adhesion and durability of subsequent layers.

Allow the surface to cure for 8 to 10 hours.

3. Screed (FloArm ESF 2mm):

Once the primed surface has been properly prepared and cured, apply the three-
component FloArm ESF 2 solvent-free system.

Begin by thoroughly mixing the three components according to the manufacturer’s

instructions to achieve a homogeneous blend. Careful and proper mixing is critical to ensure
consistent performance and application quality.

The mixed material should then be poured directly onto the primed surface. Using a
notched steel trowel, spread the material evenly to achieve the desired thickness. It is important
to work systematically and with precision to avoid overworking the resin, as excessive
manipulation can negatively affect its performance and finish. The material should be spread
slowly and evenly to ensure uniform coverage across the surface.

To further enhance the application, firmly roll the freshly applied material using a spiked nylon
roller. This step serves two key purposes:

1. Releasing Entrapped Air: The rolling action helps eliminate any air bubbles that may
have become trapped during the mixing or application process.

2. Smoothing Roller Marks: It aids in levelling out the surface and correcting any slight
roller marks or inconsistencies, ensuring a seamless and even finish.

Care must be taken throughout the process to maintain steady movement and avoid missing
any areas, as incomplete application can affect the final floor quality and performance. Proper
attention to detail will result in a smooth, durable, and professional finish.

Allow the surface to cure for 8 to 10 hours.

4. Top Coat (FloArm Top SL1 – ST 1mm):

Once the screed surface has been properly prepared and cured, apply the four-component
FloArm Top SL1-ST topcoat. The four components must be mixed thoroughly according to
the manufacturer’s specifications to achieve a uniform and homogeneous blend. It is critical to
ensure that the mixing process is precise and consistent, as improper mixing can compromise
the performance and finish of the topcoat.

After mixing, it is essential to use the material within its specified pot life, exceeding this
time can lead to thickening or curing of the material, making it difficult to apply effectively.

The mixed FloArm Top SL1-ST material should then be poured directly onto the screed
surface. Using a 1mm 'V' notched steel trowel, spread the material carefully and evenly across
the surface to achieve the required thickness. The notched trowel ensures consistent material
distribution and helps control the uniformity of the coating layer. It is important to work
systematically, applying the topcoat in sections to maintain a smooth and continuous surface
without overlaps or inconsistencies.

Once the material has been spread, firmly roll the wet epoxy using a spiked nylon roller. This
step is crucial for achieving a high-quality finish and serves the following purposes:

1. Releasing Entrapped Air: Rolling with the spiked roller helps eliminate any air bubbles
trapped within the material during mixing or application, preventing imperfections in
the final coating.

2. Assisting in Levelling: The spiked roller aids in levelling out the material, ensuring that
it settles evenly across the surface and creates a smooth, seamless finish.

3. Removing Tool Marks: Rolling helps to eliminate any marks left behind by the notched
trowel or other tools, enhancing the overall appearance and uniformity of the topcoat.

During the entire application process, care must be taken to work efficiently and precisely to
ensure optimal coverage and performance. Proper attention to detail, such as adhering to the
pot life and using the correct tools, will result in a durable, level, and visually appealing finish
that meets the desired project specifications.

Allow the surface to cure for 24 hours.
