Executive summary
Hannan Medispa Melaka has become one of Malaysia's leading providers of wellness and
beauty treatments by addressing client concerns and maintaining high standards of service and
Islamic principles. One of the main obstacles is implementing client preferences for treatment
by Muslim employees, which are based on religious and cultural beliefs. In order to solve this,
Hannan Medispa has put in place an advanced scheduling system that enables consumers to
request Muslim personnel when making appointments, as well as a strategic recruiting policy
that places a high priority on the employment of experienced Muslim experts. This strategy
enhances client pleasure while bolstering the spa's standing for incorporating Islamic values
into its offerings.
High-end amenities and a robust brand presence in Malaysia, bolstered by a vast network of
more than 100 locations catering to over 3 million patrons, are among the spa's strong points.
On the other hand, considerable barriers including market saturation and expensive prices exist.
Using the newest technology and prime sites provide opportunities, while fierce rivalry and
unfavourable rumours pose hazards.
Utilizing digital networks such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and others, Hannan Medispa
uses a complete marketing approach to interact with potential customers. The spa shares
professional images and movies that highlight its offerings, client testimonials, and behind-the-
scenes glimpses. Working together with regional beauty bloggers and influencers broadens
their audience and increases their reputation. Recurring business and word-of-mouth
recommendations are encouraged via special promotions, loyalty plans, and referral bonuses.

3.0 Operation strategy of the company
Hannan Medispa Melaka's operational strategy is carefully crafted to address specific customer
complaints while remaining consistent with the Medi spa’s overall commitment to quality
service and Islamic values. Miss Suzy, the beauty consultant of Hanan Medispa Melaka stated
that Muslimah (a Muslim woman) demand for treatment by female Muslim staff present a
significant operational challenge, as they are deeply rooted in cultural and religious
considerations that emphasize modesty and shared values. The observation about the demand
for treatment by female Muslim staff at Hannan Medispa Melaka underscores the deep cultural
and religious significance of modesty and shared values within the Muslim community. This
is reflected in the Quran, where Allah says,
"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to
show their adornment except what [ordinarily] appears thereof. And to draw their veils over
their chests and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their
husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their
sisters' sons, their women..." (Surah An-Nur, 24:31)
This verse highlights the importance of modesty and privacy for Muslim women,
making it understandable why they would prefer treatments from female Muslim staff who
share and respect these values. The operational challenge that Miss Nurul Nazirah, Senior
Manager of Hannan Medispa Melaka mentioned is thus rooted in a fundamental aspect of
Islamic teachings, which prioritize modesty and proper conduct between genders. Addressing
the operational challenge posed by the demand for female Muslim staff at Hannan Medispa
Melaka requires aligning business practices with customer needs and values, particularly in an
Islamic context. This approach is supported by Islamic business ethics teachings, which
emphasize the importance of meeting customer needs and ensuring mutual satisfaction.
Successful Islamic business practices should prioritize customer welfare and satisfaction, while
also catering to the specific needs and preferences of their clients (Syauqi et al., 2019). Hannan
Medispa upholds Islamic values while also meeting the cultural and religious expectations of
its Muslimah clients, fostering trust and loyalty.
9
According to the interview session, the increased number of Muslim customers at
Hannan Medispa Melaka, as well as their need for a larger prayer room, reflects their
unwavering commitment to performing their religious duties while receiving beauty
treatments. This dedication to prayer is consistent with the Quranic instruction:
"Indeed, I am Allah." "There is no deity but Me, so worship Me and establish prayer
for My remembrance" (Surah Taha, 20:14)

network also allows the company to maintain consistent quality and standards across all
locations, ensuring that clients receive the same level of care and service no matter where they
choose to go.
11
b. Weaknesses
• Expensive cost
Hannan Medispa faces significant start-up costs due to the high cost of imported facilities and
equipment, including high-tech machines. Hannan Medispa's skincare products are more
expensive than average due to strict formula testing and use of high-quality ingredients. For an
example, mostly the skincare product price above RM100 which are rejuvenating eye serum,
RM155 and whitening recovery cream, RM135. In terms of treatments, Vit-C facial treatment
costs RM350 (Hannan Medispa , n.d.).
• Growing saturation
There is an increasing number of new beauty and spa care lines being released. Skincare
products targeting acne, wrinkles, and ethnicities are becoming increasingly popular. Hannan
Medispa is impacted by these skincare industry segments, despite their minor significance.
Despite not focusing on new names, the company faces competition from established skincare
and beauty treatment providers such as Dr. Ko Skin Specialist, Bella Clinic, and Medii Skin
Studio.
c. Opportunities
• Latest technologies
Hannan Medispa uses cutting-edge technology to address and resolve skin issues for their
customers. Hannan Medispa offers 9 signature therapies tailored to Asian skin conditions,

location is one of its significant strengths, contributing to its success and popularity in
Malaysia's aesthetic and wellness sector. Melaka is a historical city that is a major tourist
destination and a hub for both local and international visitors, the medispa benefits from high
visibility and accessibility.
12
d. Threats
• Competitor
In Malaysia's competitive aesthetic and wellness industry, Hannan Medispa Melaka faces stiff
competition from a number of well-known brands vying for market share. The presence of
these competitors, who may provide similar services, advanced technologies, and competitive
pricing, makes it difficult for Hannan Medispa to maintain its position and expand further. For
an example as Dr. Ko Skin Specialist, Bella Clinic, and Medii Skin Studio.
• Negative rumour
The slanderer, a woman, wrote a lengthy article on Facebook on November 5, 2019. In the
article, the slanderer specifically stated that Dr Hanan Yusof, the founder of Hannan Medispa,
had deceived Malaysians by using only Cetaphil soap in their treatments. On January 16, the
company won a defamation lawsuit in the Kota Bharu Sessions Court. Dr. Hannan Mohd.
Yusof, the founder of Hannan Medispa, stated that the incident went viral, affecting his
company's reputation as well as resulting in a loss of nearly RM1 Million in revenue. According
to him, the company had a good discussion with its former employees and only requested a
payment of RM200,000 for the cost of losses. Following that, Hannan Medispa will use the
RM1 million defamation suit to benefit orphans and donate to mosques throughout the state
(Mohamed, 2022).
13
4.0 The marketing approach used by the company.

14

TikTok is yet another essential channel for Hannan Medispa, given its extensive audience and
appeal among youngsters. The spa produces brief, educational, and amusing films that
showcase customer changes, highlight skincare advice, and showcase their treatments. Popular
music and hashtags are frequently included in these videos to boost exposure and interaction.
TikTok content goes viral, which makes it easy for Hannan Medispa to draw in viewers keen
on the newest trends in health and beauty. Through engagement in challenges and partnerships
with influencers, the spa broadens its audience and cultivates an audience of followers who
rely on their knowledge.
15
• Facebook

an older audience that values in-depth content and evaluations. Through frequent updates, blog

16
4.2 Target Market
The marketing strategy used by Hannan Medispa is comprehensive; it targets those who are
interested in wellness and beauty as well as those who are looking for answers to a healthier
and beautiful skin and hair problems.
“Although Islam emphasizes on good and beautiful adornment, the more important thing that
is the main important point is hygiene and cleanliness.”
اإلي هما ُن هم هع ه
صاحِ ِب ِه فِي ال هجن ِة ِ ان هو ِ ظافهةُ تهدْعُوا ِإلهى
ِ اإلي هم الن ه
“Cleanliness is a part of faith and faith is together with its owner in paradise.”
Narrated by al-Tabarani
Hence, in Islam it is encouraged to maintain the cleanliness of our clothes, body, household,
and others. Islam also emphasized personal hygiene such as our teeth, hands, head, and others.
The above explanation from Syeikh Dr Yusuf al-Qaradhawi is in accordance with the statement
of Imam Malik Rahimahullah regarding the hadith; “Allah is beautiful, and He loves beauty.”
17
Wearing beautiful clothes, clean and scented in prayer and in gatherings. See al-Muntaqa Syarh
al-Muwatta’ by Abu al-Walid al-Baji al-Maliki (7/220).
According to Euromonitor, the Malaysian market for beauty as well as personal care is
anticipated to expand rapidly, with the dermatological care industry alone predicted to generate
USD 888.20 million in sales by 2024. The rise of patronage for beauty and wellness treatments
among Malaysians may be attributed to several causes, including increased urbanization, more
disposable income, and a greater consciousness of personal hygiene star (Personal Care and
Cosmetic, 2020).
For those with skin and hair problems, Hannan Medispa emphasizes the effectiveness
and scientific basis of their therapies. In-depth explanations and before-and-after pictures are
shown to show how their treatments may resolve typical issues including hair loss,
pigmentation, and acne. Those looking for practical remedies to their skin concerns find greater
reliability and confidence in this scientifically based approach.
Additionally, Hannan Medispa monitors industry trends and consumer feedback, which
enables them to modify their advertising strategies and stay successful and current. In a market
that is competitive and changing quickly, this constant adaption is essential to their ability to
retain and expand their clientele.
Overall, Hannan Medispa has been able to establish itself as a premier provider of
beauty and health services in Malaysia by employing a comprehensive marketing strategy and
a thorough grasp of the varied demands and individual tastes of their intended customer base.
This tactic aids in both bringing in new business and keeping hold of current clientele, which
eventually spurs expansion and builds a devoted clientele.
18
5.0 The company’s quality management
According to interview session with Miss Nurul Nazirah (Senior manager of Hannan Medispa
Melaka), the medispa prioritizes Halal compliance throughout its operations, especially the hair
colouring products used in its treatments. Hannan Medispa, founded by Dr. Hannan Mohamad
Yusof, stated that all its hair colouring products are Halal-certified. Halal and transparent hair
colour, product from Japan, Ammonia free, has an organic certificate and not harmful to the
scalp. This commitment entails a rigorous process of sourcing ingredients and products and
meticulously verifying their adherence to Islamic dietary laws and purity standards (Hashim &
Hashim, 2013). Hannan Medispa Melaka's commitment to prioritizing Halal compliance in its
operations, particularly the use of Halal-certified hair colouring products, demonstrates a strong
adherence to Islamic purity and dietary laws. This dedication is consistent with the Quranic
verse:
"O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good, and do not follow the
footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is your clear enemy" (Surat Al-Baqarah 2:168).
This verse emphasizes the importance of consuming Halal, lawful, and pure substances
while warning about the influence of harmful elements. Hannan Medispa not only maintains
the integrity of its services by using Halal products, but it also honours the Islamic values of
purity, transparency, and ethical sourcing. Dr. Hannan Mohamad Yusof, a well-known figure
in the wellness industry, emphasizes the significance of Halal compliance not only as a
religious obligation, but also as a reflection of the medical spa's dedication to providing
inclusive and ethical services.
Furthermore, Miss Nazirah also stated that Dr. Hannan Mohamad Yusof has expressed
a desire to broaden the range of Halal-compliant products available at Hannan Medispa Melaka
besides the hair colour treatments. Understanding the importance of Halal certification to
Muslim customers, Dr Hannan intends to offer a wider range of Halal-compliant skincare,
beauty, and wellness products. This strategic initiative is consistent with Dr. Hannan's vision
of making Hannan Medispa the premier destination for Halal-certified treatments and products
in the wellness industry. Dr. Hannan hopes to meet the diverse needs of Muslim clients by
19
providing a wide range of Halal-compliant options while maintaining the spa's reputation for
quality, trustworthiness, and adherence to Islamic principles.
"Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts."
(Surah An-Nur, 24:30)
20
"Tell believing women to reduce their vision and guard their private parts. They should wrap
a portion of their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their
husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, sisters' sons, and women." (Surah An-Nur, 24:31)
This verse emphasizes the value of modesty and the need for both men and women to maintain
boundaries in their interactions. Hannan Medispa Melaka’s practice of scheduling
appointments in advance to accommodate male clients separately from female clients is
consistent with this principle, demonstrating a dedication to upholding Islamic values of
modesty and respect for gender boundaries.
21
prioritize creating a physical environment that reflects their customer-centric values. This could
include thoughtfully designed spaces that provide privacy, comfort, and a sense of security,
especially for clients who follow religious practices that necessitate such accommodations.
Indeed, Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) emphasized the importance of adhering to
religious practices and making accommodations for them. One of his sayings that corresponds
to this concept is:
"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should accommodate his guest according to his
right." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6136)
This Hadith emphasizes the value of hospitality and meeting the needs of others,
including their religious practices. This teaching supports thoughtfully designed spaces that
prioritize privacy, comfort, and a sense of security for clients who practice religion. By making
such accommodations, businesses like Hannan Medispa Melaka demonstrate a commitment to
respecting and honouring their customers' religious beliefs and practices, fostering an inclusive
and welcoming environment for all. By emphasizing these elements, Hannan Medispa Melaka
separates itself as a medical spa industry leader, demonstrating that quality management
through service is more than just clinical excellence; it is also about understanding and meeting
the holistic needs of their customers. Their approach demonstrates a strong commitment to
integrating cultural competence into all aspects of their operations, resulting in a seamless and
respectful experience for all clients. This comprehensive and inclusive strategy not only
increases customer satisfaction and loyalty, but also establishes Hannan Medispa Melaka as a
reliable and preferred wellness and personal care destination in a culturally diverse society.
22
6.0 The relevancy, importance, and significance of the company
The availability of Halal hair colour products allows clients to visit the spa with
confidence, knowing that their religious values will be respected and upheld throughout the
treatment process. This commitment to Halal compliance not only reflects the spa's integrity,
but also allows people to fulfil their religious obligations, such as performing ablution before
prayer, without sacrificing the quality or efficacy of the products used. Hannan Medispa
Melaka demonstrates a thorough understanding of Islamic teachings on gender interactions and
modesty by respecting the boundaries between men and women and implementing measures
to ensure privacy and modesty, such as scheduling appointments separately and providing
gender-specific treatment areas.
23
obligations while attending to their personal grooming needs. Hannan Medispa offers a variety
of treatments, including hair wash, dark circle or under eyes therapy, acne package, men’s
facial and silk peel therapy, that are meticulously designed to improve physical cleanliness and
appearance. Hannan Medispa makes these services accessible and tailored to Islamic values,
allowing people to maintain high hygiene and grooming standards, fostering a lifestyle that
respects and incorporates religious teachings on cleanliness and personal care.
“ان
ِ اإلي هم ْ ور ش
ِ هط ُر ُ “ – ”الط ُهCleanliness is half the faith (Emaan).”
Hannan Medispa Melaka's wellness innovation aligns with the Islamic principle of promoting
ease and well-being. The Quranic verse from Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185),
"Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship. “
in which Allah intends ease for believers, is consistent with the idea of seeking innovative
solutions to make more easier in daily life. Hannan Medispa ensures that clients feel at ease
and comfortable in their pursuit of physical and spiritual health by constantly incorporating the
latest advancements in wellness and skincare into their services and products. For an example,
the machines and equipment are imported from the USA and Korea, indicating a developed
and sophisticated country with expertise in both machining and beauty. According to the staff,
24
the 3D facial scan machine, priced at RM40,000 from Korea, can check the condition of
people’s skin. Another example is Hannan Medispa offers 9 signature therapies tailored to
Asian skin conditions, using high-tech machines imported from Korea and the USA. These
treatments have been scientifically proven to address various skin issues.
25
7.0 Islamic approach used by Hannan Medispa
The addition of a prayer room at Hannan Medispa Melaka demonstrates a thoughtful and
considerate approach to meeting the religious needs of its Muslim clients. This provision
recognizes the significance of prayer in Islam and acknowledges that devout Muslims may
require a designated space to fulfil their religious obligations while visiting the medispa.
Hannan Medispa provides a prayer room complete with prayer attire and mats, allowing clients
to engage in their religious practices comfortably and uninterrupted. The Prophet Muhammad
said in a hadith narrated by Abu Huraira:
"Whosoever removes a worldly grief from a believer, Allah will remove from him one of the
griefs of the Day of Judgment. Whosoever alleviates [the lot of] a needy person, Allah will
alleviate [his lot] in this world and the next. Whosoever shields a Muslim, Allah will shield
him in this world and the next. Allah will aid a servant [of His] so long as the servant aids his
brother”.
The presence of a prayer room sends a message of respect and acceptance to Muslim
customers, indicating that their religious beliefs and practices are valued and accommodated.
This gesture fosters a sense of belonging and goodwill among customers, which improves their
overall experience at the medical spa.
From a business standpoint, offering a prayer room is consistent with Hannan Medispa's
goal of providing exceptional customer service. By anticipating its Muslim clients' needs and
going above and beyond to meet those needs, the spa distinguishes itself as a conscientious and
customer-focused establishment. This can result in increased customer satisfaction, loyalty,
and positive word-of-mouth recommendations throughout the community. In essence, the
presence of a prayer room at Hannan Medispa Melaka demonstrates the spa's dedication to
creating a welcoming and inclusive environment in which people of all faiths feel respected
26
and valued. It emphasizes the value of cultural sensitivity and takes a proactive approach to
meeting the diverse needs of its customers.
Hannan Medispa's practice of scheduling appointments with a sufficient gap between male and
female customers to avoid potential 'Aurah' exposure, particularly for women, demonstrates a
commitment to upholding Islamic principles of modesty and gender boundaries. In Islam, the
term 'Aurah' refers to body parts that should be covered or concealed, particularly in the
presence of members of the opposite gender. This principle is based on hadiths that emphasize
the importance of modesty and establishing boundaries between men and women. One such
hadith is narrated by Ibn Abbas, in which the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said,
This hadith underscores the importance of women covering their 'Aurah' or private
parts. The Prophet Muhammad emphasized the importance of modesty and maintaining one's
honour and dignity in interactions between men and women (Naeem & Mahvish, 2021). His
words and actions serve as a guide for Muslims on how to apply these principles in their daily
lives.
27
7.3 Educate clients about Islamic guidelines.
Hannan Medispa is committed to teaching its customers about Islamic standards for grooming
and self-care. Giving precise and understandable details about what is and is not acceptable in
accordance with Islamic principles is part of this educational strategy. The Islamic prohibition
on hair colouring is one rule the spa places emphasis on. Based on certain hadiths, several
Islamic scholars advise against dying gray hair black for senior citizens. It is advised to use
colours that are natural instead, like henna.
In addition to making sure that customers are mindful of this directive, Hannan Medispa
provides them with Islamically compliant hair colour alternatives. The spa assists customers in
maintaining their ideal appearance while still respecting their religious convictions by doing
this.
Indeed, the Jews did not want dyeing hair (gray hair), therefore, show a difference with them.
(HR Bukhari dan Muslim)
The command contained in the above hadith means of circumcision, as is normally done by his
companions. For example, Abu Bakr and Umar, while others did not.
28
Rasulullah SAW said to Abu Quhafah who has grey hair:
The above Hadith clearly showed that dyeing the hair black is haram except during
jihad. The haram status of it is linked to Hadith foretold by Jabir r.a. above. According to
Shafie, the haram status is the same for both men and women. For Ishak Bin Rahawaih, he
allowed flexibility in women dyeing black their grey hair, if it is to please the husband.

Meaning: “From Jabir, he said: Abu Quhafah came on their victorious year or day. His hair
and beard are like tsagham (a plant that its fruits and flowers is white in colour). So Rasulullah
SAW told his wife: “Change it (the hair and beard) to something else."
Hannan Medispa often organizes educational seminars where clients may learn about
different Islamic standards connected to beauty to assist this education. A variety of subjects
may be discussed during these sessions, such as appropriate beauty standards and how crucial
it is to abide by them. Furthermore, the spa offers educational resources including pamphlets,
fliers, and online articles that summarize important Islamic precepts and clarify the prohibitions
on behaviours.
Spa experts clarify Islamic standards related to the treatments a customer is interested
in during one-on-one consultations. For example, they can provide an explanation of the ban
on black hair colour and provide acceptable substitutes. Clients are guaranteed to receive
individualized guidance that honours their beliefs thanks to our specialized approach.
29
Any product can be used if it is free from unclean elements and does not prevent water
from reaching wudhuk body parts or during impurity bath. According to the Islamic Consumer
Association of Malaysia (PPIM), elements of hair dye that can be found in the market is divided
into two types. Both are halal in their contents, but one is waterproof while the other is not, so
one must make sure of its content before using it. Hair dye in the market will usually have
permanent dye or semi-permanent dye written on the box. Based on research, the semi-
permanent dye does not permeate water and shouldn’t be used by Muslims. Jakim has never
issued halal certificate for hair dye product because they are imported products. Jakim only
issues halal certificate for products processed in Malaysia only (Henna Usage, n.d.)
Utilizing halal-certified goods is Hannan Medispa's top priority to adhere to Islamic purity and
diet regulations. One such item is the halal-certified Keratin Therapy Lisse Design, available
in Japan. The spa carefully checks the product's composition to make sure it doesn't include
any haram (forbidden) materials, such alcohol or products derived from pork or other non-halal
foods. Hannan Medispa ensures that the treatments its customers get are compliant with Islamic
law by using items that have been certified halal by accredited agencies.
Firstly, the chemical intended for hair application is non-alcoholic. Hydrogen peroxide
(H202), a non-alcoholic ingredient used in many hair colours, alters melanin, the pigment in
hair. It would therefore be acceptable to use because the hair surface is neither impacted nor
covered, which would allow water to access the hair strand. Next, the melanin granule in the
centre layer of every hair strand is chemically altered by hair bleaches, and this may be quite
hazardous to many people. It would be Makruh to use dangerous items on the body (without a
good reason or medical advice). Henna (Mendi) is maybe the most appropriate and closest to
the Sunnah ingredient to utilize (Highlighting of Hair: Muftisays Islamic Question & Answers,
n.d.).
30
In addition, Hannan Medispa places a strong emphasis on operational openness. By
providing clients with information on the halal status of the items utilized, trust regarding the
services rendered is increased. Additionally, the spa keeps up with the most recent halal
certifications and norms, guaranteeing that each new product added to their treatments satisfies
the stringent halal requirements.
By providing services that are specifically designed to adhere to Islamic norms, Hannan
Medispa puts these principles into reality. They steer clear of practices that are forbidden and
provide skin and hair treatments that comply with halal requirements. All employees get
training on Islamic beauty and personal care rules, enabling them to accurately advise and assist
clients who wish to adhere to these norms. Including customers in workshops, Q&A sessions,
and individualized guidance fosters a community of knowledgeable people who value the
blending of religion and beauty regimens. By concentrating on these elements, Hannan
Medispa offers a comprehensive strategy that honours and advances their clients' faith-based
demands and beliefs while skilfully incorporating Islamic concepts into their beauty and
wellness treatments.
By identifying with the beliefs and requirements of Muslims, Hannan Medispa may attract and
keep a larger client base by incorporating Islamic ideals into its entire business ideas, practices,
and strategy. This can be accomplished via a range of deliberate actions that uphold and
incorporate Islamic values.
The introduction of cosmetics that are suitable for wudhuk is an important factor. Muslims are
required to do wudhuk, also known as ablution, before praying. This entails washing body
parts, such as the face, hands, and feet. Cosmetics must form an impenetrable barrier on the
skin that would prevent water from reaching it during the ablution procedure to be deemed
wudhuk-friendly. Hannan Medispa should concentrate on creating solutions that are water-
permeable, devoid of alcohol and animal derivatives, and created with halal-certified
31
ingredients to put this into practice. It is crucial to teach employees the value of wudhuk and
provide them with the skills necessary to assist clients in choosing the right items.
Imam al-Nawawi states in his book al-Majmu’: “When there is anything covering a part of the
body, such as wax, flour or henna and others. If anything blocks water, then his purification is
invalid, whether it is a little or a lot. If there is some residue of henna’s colour or fat residue
that does not inhibit water, then his purification is valid.” Al-Majmu’ (1/467).
The same is stated in the book Tuhfah al-Muhtaj (1/187), under chapter ablution. The following
are the opinion of the four mazhab except mazhab Hanafi, where on the conditions is:
Remove anything that is blocking or inhibiting water from reaching the body parts for ablution.
Which means anything that could inhibit water from reaching the skin, such as wax, fat and
others.
Syeikh Muhammad Mutawalli Sya’rawi issued a fatwa regarding the ruling of removing nail
polish before ablution.
He was asked: “Is it compulsory to remove nail polish for ablution? He then answered: “Yes,
indeed you have answered it yourself. As long as it is a form of a polish that inhibits water from
reaching the skin, then it is compulsory for you to remove it during purification. Whereas, for
henna it is permissible. Wallahua’lam.” Fatawa al-Mar’ah al-Muslimah (198).
Why Muslims need to be particular about their wudhuk? Islam's basic practice of wudhuk is
necessary to keep oneself physically and spiritually pure before participating in prayer. As part
32
of the cleansing ritual before prayer, Muslims are instructed to wash their faces, hands, and feet
by the Qur'an in Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:6). The acceptability of prayers and other acts of worship
is contingent upon this act of cleansing, known as taharah. The legitimacy of the prayers spoken
can be impacted using cosmetics that are impermeable to water, which can damage this
condition of purity.
Currently, Hannan Medispa Melaka operates with a team of only three staff members,
all of whom are women. It is difficult to serve Muslim male clients in accordance with Islamic
guidelines under this staffing environment. The lack of male employees means that female staff
members must deal with male clientele, which can be awkward and sensitive to cultural
differences. Given Islamic beliefs on gender roles and modesty, this can be an especially
difficult issue. Islamic teachings place a strong emphasis on modesty and appropriate behaviour
between men and women who are not members of the same direct family (non-mahram). The
Qur'an instructs both men and women to lower their gaze and guard their modesty.
“And enjoin believing women to cast down their looks and guard their private parts and not
reveal their adornment except that which is revealed of itself, and to draw their veils over their
33
bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to their husbands, or their fathers, or the
fathers of their husbands, or of their own sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers,
or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or the women with whom they
associate, or those that are in their bondage, or the male attendants in their service free of
sexual interest, or boys that are yet unaware of illicit matters pertaining to women. Nor should
they stamp their feet on the ground in such manner that their hidden ornament becomes
revealed. Believers, turn together, all of you, to Allah in repentance that you may attain true
success.”
The Hadith, where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasized the value of modesty
as a component of faith, lends more credence to these ideas. It is easier for Muslims to uphold
these values when gender-specific services are provided, creating a courteous and cozy
atmosphere that is consistent with their religious duties.
Hannan Medispa should create a focused recruitment program that gives employing
more male employees to serve male clients priority to address these staffing and operational
concerns. In order to reach possible prospects, this may entail posting job positions only for
male candidates and collaborating with nearby Islamic groups. Hiring can also be sped up by
providing incentives to current employees who recommend eligible male prospects.
It is imperative that all staff members receive training session on the value of modesty
and gender relations in Islam. The training program need to encompass topics such as managing
scenarios in which personnel with a certain gender identity is unavailable and upholding
professionalism while acknowledging cultural sensitivity. Staff members will be kept informed
about best practices and these concepts will be reinforced with the use of educational materials
and frequent seminars.
Getting involved with the Muslim community in your area is crucial to better
identifying their demands and preferences. Setting up feedback sessions or community events
can help gather information and establish credibility with prospective customers. Further
strengthening community relations will be achieved by collaborating with nearby mosques and
Islamic groups to raise awareness of the spa's adherence to Islamic values and gender-specific
services.
34
Lastly, investing on facility upgrades to designate gender-specific spaces for the spa
such as distinct waiting areas and service areas will guarantee that clients are treated with
respect and comfort while they are there. Increasing client satisfaction will also come from
using flexible scheduling to allow for gender-specific service periods without interfering with
general operations.
