Survey and Route Preparation:

1. Survey of Route:
Route survey is required for the pipeline and detours needed during execution.
Marking and detailing the route on a topographical sheet.
The preparation of construction drawings showing survey details.
Submission of the survey data and construction drawings for review and approval by
TNGCL/PMC.
2. Clearing and Obstruction Removal:
Survey of the pipeline route should also identify and address any obstructions such as
electrical lines, telephone poles, foreign pipelines, etc.
The survey will include coordination with relevant authorities to obtain permissions for
clearing these obstructions.
3. Detailed Marking of Construction Area:
Staking and installation of construction markers for proper delineation of the pipeline route.
Survey of the areas for clearing, grading, and fencing.
Determination of land requirements for storage, fabrication, and access to construction areas.
4. Preparation of Construction Drawings:
Based on the survey, the preparation of construction drawings that depict the route and
detailed survey information is required.
These drawings must then be submitted for review and approval by the concerned
authorities.
5. Co-ordination with Authorities:
Survey to include coordination with statutory and environmental authorities to ensure that all
necessary clearances are obtained.
6. Detours and Site Modifications:
If there is a need for detours in the route due to obstacles or specific conditions, the survey
should include these changes and details for execution.
7. Topographical Surveys:
For assessing site conditions for trenching and other activities, topographical surveys are
crucial.
Necessary modifications to the route may be required based on findings from the survey,
especially in areas with complex terrain.

Additional Survey Tasks:

The survey team must identify all obstacles and plan accordingly to ensure that the right-of-use
(ROU) and pipeline route alignment are suitable for construction.

Identifying areas where excavation and trenching will need to be adjusted based on terrain, such
as rocky strata or undulated terrain.

Methodology for Crossing:

A joint survey with the client/PMC and contractor to finalize the methodology for pipeline
crossings (e.g., road crossings, water bodies) will be required.

General Survey Data:

Soil classification (all types of soils and rocky strata) needs to be mapped to ensure that the
trenching and pipeline laying processes are managed accordingly. This will also impact the
selection of tools and machinery for trenching, especially in rocky strata.
Specific attention is required for any crossings, particularly in areas where terrain may complicate
trenching.

This survey data forms the foundation of the construction process, ensuring that the pipeline is laid
according to the specifications, while complying with all required permits and approvals.
