 What is Sufism? Sufism is a spiritual branch of Islam that focuses on a close and personal
connection with God. Sufis often lead simple lives, focusing on prayer, meditation, and helping
others.
 Who are Sufis? Sufis are followers of Sufism. They are often known as saints or mystics and are
respected for their wisdom and piety (devotion to religion).

1.Influence on Society

 Helping the Poor: Sufis were known for their charitable work. They helped the poor, provided food
and shelter, and cared for the sick. This made them popular among the people.
 Building Shrines: Many Sufis were buried in Bengal, and their tombs, called shrines, became
important religious sites. People visited these shrines to pray and seek blessings.

2. Political Influence

 Advisors to Rulers: Many Sufis became advisors to local rulers. They were respected for their
wisdom and were often consulted on matters of governance.
