What to Expect at Auditions
● May 7th will be the workshop day where you will participate in a technique class
and learn the audition combos.
● Dancers will learn a jazz technique combo and a contemporary combo.
● Our audition day for judges will be on May 8th.
● Registration will be held on the first day (May 7th) from 3:00-3:30 then we will
begin dancing at 3:30.
● On May 8th we will have check-in from 3:00-3:30 and then will begin dancing at
3:30.
● On May 8th for the actual audition, we will not do call backs so once your group
has gone, you are free to leave. There is a good chance many of you will not
need to stay until 5:30 on this day, but please plan on staying as long as needed.
What to Bring to Auditions
● Return the last page of this packet at registration. Keep the rest of the packet and
make sure you have reviewed all the information with your parents.
● Make sure you have the following items attached to your application page:
o A printout of your grades.
▪ In order to be eligible for dance company the following
requirements must be met:
▪ 2.0 Cumulative GPA
▪ Please note with grades: as a new advisor I am willing to
work with you and your grades. If they are a little below this
cut off but you are still interested in participating on the team,
we can work out an improvement plan and please still
audition! I will need to see growth and improvement, but am
committed to working with you on grades and citizenship.
o A headshot to attach to your application. This does not need to be formal
or printed on photo paper, but is important to have as we finalize results
after the audition, so please make sure we can see your face in the photo.
● You are welcome to bring dance shoes, turners, etc. that you may want for the
audition (not required, but allowed if you prefer that to dancing barefoot. Socks
will not be allowed in the audition so be prepared if you need something extra).
● There is no set dress code for the audition (i.e. you do not have to wear all black,
etc.) so feel free to wear a color and whatever dance clothes you feel
comfortable in. However, it is recommended you wear tighter fitting clothing so
we can see all of your movement and please try to look as professional as
possible. Make sure hair is pulled back and out of your face.
● Bring water, layers, and anything else you may need to stay comfortable during
the audition.
How will I receive Results?
● Results will be posted outside the dance studio one week after auditions. Results
will be posted with audition numbers only to allow for student privacy. Please
make sure to remember your number from auditions!
● Students will receive an email following the audition with more information.
Team Information
Next is a brief description of the team, their practice schedule, and other performance
commitments. Please review this information carefully as you consider if this team will
be the best fit for you.
Please remember that all calendar information below is currently tentative and is
included to give you an idea of our general schedule. Once the schedule has been
finalized, dates will be emailed out to team members.
Dance Company:
Dance Company is a choreography/performance focused dance group. The focus of
Dance Company is on dance as an art form. This is a unique opportunity for you to
experience dance in a way uncommon in a studio dance class or competitive setting.
Our biggest projects during the year will be participating in the UDEO State Dance
Festival and putting on two concerts during the year where Dance Company members
will have the opportunity to choreograph. This team will also perform at various
halftimes and other outside of class events. If chosen to be on Dance Company, you will
automatically be enrolled for the Dance Company class. Outside of class practices and
performances will be required.
Dance 3:
Those that audition for Dance Company and do not make the team are encouraged to
sign up for the Dance 3 class. This class can be a great opportunity to continue to build
your skills in preparation for auditions in the future. This class will still get to participate
in both concerts during the year as well as several other outside of class performances.
Please reach out to Mrs. Humphrey if you have more questions about this class.
Practice and Performance Schedule:
● Practices:
o Upon a successful audition students will be enrolled in the Dance
Company class. This will be a 4th period class. On the day that we have
class, practice will continue after school until 3:00 pm.
o As we get closer to concerts, team members may need to stay later than
3:00 to make sure we have enough time to prepare. This schedule will be
sent out to all team members once the calendar and performance dances
have been finalized.
o Students will be required to attend after school tech and dress rehearsals
once we are closer to our major concerts.
● Major Performances:
o Football Halftimes: Friday nights from August – October.
o Winter Concert: Tentatively planned for the first or second week of
December, dates to be confirmed and will be sent out to new team
members.
o Basketball Halftimes: January – February (Typically Tuesday and Friday
Nights, schedule TBD)
o District Dance Concert
o Utah High School State Dance Festival: Typically the 2nd Saturday in
March (date TBD)
o Spring Concert: Tentatively planned for the 3rd or 4th week of April,
dates to be confirmed and will be sent out to new team members.
Other Important Information and Team Requirements:
● Dance Company does require a participation fee for the year. Students who are
eligible for fee waivers can have the fee waived, and if needed a payment plan
can be set up with the office. The team will also participate in several fundraisers
during the year to keep costs of participation and the fee as low as possible.
● Students enrolled in a dance class can receive Fine Art, PE or Elective Credit.
● This is a yearlong commitment and it is expected if you audition that you are able
to commit to the entire year.
● It is required that all members of the team perform in both the Winter and Spring
concert as these are the two events we spend the most time preparing for in
class. Concerts are non-negotiable and If students are unable to attend the
concerts, they will not be able to participate on the team. This also includes the
tech and dress rehearsals the week of the concert. Dates for these concerts will
be provided as early as possible and it is expected all other conflicts are worked
out so dancers are available on these dates.
● It is expected that all other performances are made a priority, but conflicts can be
worked out on a case by case basis.
● As a dance department, we try our best to work with students who participate on
other teams, studio teams, and other activities. However, we ask that our
practices, performances, and team events are still made a priority as much as
possible.
Please reach out if you have any questions concerning the information included above.
Also please reach out if you aren’t sure if a performing team is right for you next year.
There are a lot of other dance classes available and I’d love to help you find one that is
the right fit for you!
Thank you again for your interest in our program! I look forward to seeing you at
auditions and having you in one of my classes next year!
