Ex. 1 - Santa's Letter – Fill in the gaps. Use Past Simple and Present Perfect.

Dear Children,

I hope you are all doing well and getting ready for the holidays!
This year, I ________ (travel) all around the world and ________ (visit) many wonderful places.
Just last week, I ________ (stop) by the North Pole workshop, where my elves ________ (work) very hard to
prepare your presents.
I also ________ (receive) so many letters from children this month, and I ________ (read) every single one of
them!

Last year, I ________ (deliver) more than 1 million presents in one night. It was a very busy night, but I
________ (not forget) anyone, even if the weather was terrible!

Instructions:

1. Imagine you are detectives investigating Santa’s activities over the past 24 hours.

2. Read the clues carefully.

3. In pairs or small groups, take turns asking questions in Present Perfect or Past Simple to discover what
Santa has been up to.

4. Use the clues to help you form your questions. For example: "Did Santa visit any houses last night?"

5. Discuss and write down your final conclusions about Santa's actions.

Clues:

1. Santa's hands are sticky.

2. There are crumbs of cookies on the floor.

3. The reindeer are very tired.

4. The sleigh is covered in snow.

5. There are footprints by the chimney.

6. Some presents are missing from the sack.

7. The fireplace smells like burnt wood.

8. Santa’s boots are wet and muddy.

9. A mug of hot chocolate is half-empty.

10. Santa left his list of "Nice and Naughty" children behind.
