Evaluation process

• "measurement" refers to assigning numerical values to specific


attributes, "assessment" involves collecting information through various
methods to understand performance, and "evaluation" is the process of
interpreting that collected data and making judgments based on set
criteria, essentially determining the value or worth of something based on
the assessment information.

• Measurement: A quantitative process of assigning numbers to represent


a specific quality or characteristic, like measuring height in inches.

• Assessment: Gathering information through various methods like tests,


observations, or portfolios to understand someone's knowledge,
skills, or performance.

• Evaluation: Analyzing the collected assessment data to make judgments


about the quality, effectiveness, or value of something based on set
criteria.

Measurement

Measurement meaning

• Measurement is appraisal in term of fixed standard

• The English word measurement originate from Latin mensura and the
action of measuring

• For something accurate measurement is essential

Definition measurement
• Measurement is an act or a process that involves the assignment of
numerical. whatever is being assessed

Assessment

• Assessment is the systematic basis for making inferences about the


learning and development of students

Definition

• It is the process of defining, selecting, designing, collecting, analyzing,


interpreting, and using information to increase students' learning
and development

Principles of assessment

• valid

• Reliable and consistent

• Explicit , accessible and transparent

• Inclusive and equitable

• Manageable

• Formative and summative evaluation

• Timely feedback

• Staff development policy and strategies

Introduction
Evaluation involves a continuous process of collecting, recording, assembling and
interpreting information.

Evaluation implies the use of relative flexible standard.

 Definition
1. Evaluation is the assessment of merit or worth
2. Evaluation is systematic examination of educational and social program

 Purpose of evaluation
1. to appraise the status and changes in student behavior
2. to make a provision for guiding the growth of the individual student
3. to diagnose the individual student educational weakness and strength
4. to assess the student progress from time to time and discloses students
needs and possibilities
5. to predict the student future academic success
6. to provide basis for modification of the curriculum and courses
7. to locate where remedial measures are needed
8. motivate students towards better attainment and growth
9. apprise the teachers and supervisors competence

 Characteristics of evaluation in nursing


• Evaluation is continuous process.
• Evaluation includes the academic and non-academic subject.
• Evaluation is procedure for improving the product.
• Evaluation discovers the needs of and individual and design the learning experiences
that will solve this needs.
• Evaluation is complex process.

 Principles of evaluation
1. Determining and clarifying what is to be evaluated always has priority in
the evaluation process
2. Evaluation technique should be selected according to the purpose to be
served
3. Competensive evaluation requires a variety of evaluation technique
4. Proper use of evaluation techniques requires an awareness of both their
limitations and strength
5. Evaluation is a mean to an end not an end itself

 Types of evaluation
• Formative evaluation

• Summative evaluation

 Formative evaluation

• The term formative denotes the ongoing or systematic assessment of students


achievement while the term courses.

• Formative evaluation is conducted to monitor the instructional process ,to determine


whether learning is taking place as planned.

• Formative evaluation is done to monitor learning and the modifying the program if
needed before its completion

 Summative evaluation
• The term summative refers to assigning a grade for student achievement at the end of
term course or instructional program.

• Summative evaluation describe judgements about the merits of an already completed


program
