DUA LIPA BIO
Dua Lipa was born on 22 August 1995 in London,
UK. The daughter of Kosovar-Albanian parents, her
cultural identity has always been an important
part of her life. Her father, Dukagjin Lipa, is a well-
known rock singer, while her mother, Anesa,
works in the tourism sector. From a young age,
Dua showed a keen interest in music, influenced
by her father's records and iconic pop and rock
figures.
At 15, Dua moved back to London from Kosovo,
where she had lived for a few years. Working as a
waitress and studying, she began posting covers
of popular songs on YouTube. Her talent did not go
unnoticed and she was soon signed to Tap
Management while continuing to work and hone
her style.
In 2015, Dua Lipa released her debut single “New
Love,” followed by the hit “Be the One,” which
quickly climbed the charts in several European
countries. This marked the beginning of her overwhelming rise in the music
industry. Her self-titled debut album “Dua Lipa,” released in 2017, produced hits
such as “IDGAF” and “New Rules,” the latter cementing itself as an anthem to
female empowerment and garnering hundreds of millions of views on YouTube.
The album’s success catapulted her to global fame, leading to international tours
and numerous awards, including two Brit Awards. Dua didn’t stop there, though;
her next project would prove to be even more ambitious and acclaimed.
In 2020, Lipa released her second studio album, Future Nostalgia, a fusion of
disco, pop, and funk influences with a modern twist. The album featured landmark
singles such as “Don’t Start Now,” “Physical,” and “Levitating.” Not only did this
project earn her six Grammy nominations, but it also demonstrated her ability to
reinvent herself and stay relevant in an extremely competitive industry.
Dua Lipa has gone beyond being a simple pop star. Her voice has become a
reference for issues such as gender equality, women's empowerment and LGBT+
rights. Together with her father, she founded the Sunny Hill Foundation charity to
help those in need in Kosovo.
Dua Lipa has established herself as an unstoppable force in the world of pop.
Combining undeniable vocal talent with a relentless work ethic and overwhelming
charisma, she has secured her legacy in modern music. Her career is not only an
inspiration to the next generation of artists, but also a testament to the power of
authenticity and dedication.
