INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1 INTRODUCTION
This manual contains instructions required to install a 3D system on a Planmeca ProMax
2D X-ray unit.
NOTE
Read this manual carefully before installation.
NOTE
Perform the installation in the order given in this manual.
1.3 Sensors
There are two versions of the sensor: 3D s and 3D Classic. The 3D Classic sensor has a
larger active area than the 3D s sensor.

2 PRE-INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
Before starting any installation tasks, check carefully the following pre-installation
requirements.
For more information, see Planmeca ProMax tube head versions and compatibility
information, Technical Bulletin (PX-076B).
2.1.3 Collimator
The existing 2D collimator must be changed to 3D collimator.
NOTE
The PC(s) and other equipment connected to the system must be:
- approved by local authorities
- located outside the patient area
- protectively grounded
• The minimum requirement for the Ethernet cables used in the 3D system network is
Category 6 (CAT6).
• The Romexis PC hardware is not by default included to the Planmeca ProMax 3D s /
3D Classic retrofit kit delivery.
• Each image acquisition workstation (Romexis PC) in the network has to use a
different IP address.
• If connected to any common network, the ProMax network must be protected with a
firewall. The firewall settings must be carefully configured to allow all vital traffic
between X-ray unit, Reco PC and Romexis PC. For more information, refer to the
Romexis Technical manual (10037884). However, all information security issues in
general must be considered together with the clinic’s information security personnel.
• In case of standalone ProMax installation, there is no need for firewall.

4. From the list on the display that appears select Calibrations (3200).
5. Select Collimator calibration (3260).
7. Touch the Run button to move the collimator to a position where the collimator screws
are visible.
The collimator will now be in a position where the screws that secure the collimator in
place are visible.
8. Switch off the X-ray unit.
NOTE
Removing the covers might slightly differ depending on the X-ray unit model (age), for more
detailed instructions, see the original version of the X-ray unit’s Technical manual.
WARNING
Always switch the X-ray unit off before removing any covers.

NOTE
If you did not drive the collimator to Show Screws -position as instructed in section 3.2
"Driving collimator to Show Screws -position" on page 7, you have to move the
collimator mechanism manually. To do this, rotate the stepper motor spindles (2)
located behind the collimator blades until you can access the screws.
3. Using a 4 mm Allen key, unscrew the four screws (4) which hold the tube head in
position and remove the tube head (5).

4. Accept the changes by touching the green check mark button.
The X-ray unit restarts.
5. Enter the technical settings, select Technical.
On these displays (2110 - 2180) you can select the X-ray unit’s programs. These
selections determine which programs are shown on the touch screen when using the
X-ray unit.
In addition, on these displays you can define preset kV and mA values for different
type of exposures, i.e. the selected program, patient size, segmentation and jaw size.
2. Acknowledge the changes by touching the green check mark button.
3. Set the program features, select Program --> 2200 Program Features.
NOTE
DEC is available for panoramic and cephalometric programs. It is not available for
SmartPan programs.
On the Licences display you can change and enable/disable the program licences.
You will need a license code to add a new feature to the X-ray unit. Touch the feature
field to switch this feature on. A number display will appear. Enter the license code to
enable the selected feature.
6. Acknowledge the changes by touching the green check mark button.
7. Switch off the X-ray unit.
NOTE
Make sure that the X-ray unit is switched off.
