Types of Yarn

Yarns are continuous strands of fibers used to create fabrics, with natural staple fibers typically requiring spinning processes, while synthetic yarns often do not. Various types of yarn include spun yarns, filament yarns, single and multi plied yarns, cord yarns, mono and multi filament yarns, and distinctions based on twist. The document outlines the characteristics and classifications of different yarn types.

Yarn

Yarns are continuous strands of fibers that can be woven or knitted into
fabrics. A natural staple fiber usually requires processes such as spinning to
make yarns. Silk yarn, extracted from silk cocoon is continuous filament
yarns. Most of the synthetic yarns also do not require the additional
processes of spinning.

1. Spun yarn :
Spun yarns are made by mechanical assembly and twisting together of
staple fiber
2. Filament yarn :
Made by continuous filament from manufactured fiber and silk
3. Single plied yarn :
Just consist of one ply
4. Multi plied yarn:
Plied yarn is made by twisting together of two or more singles.
5. Cord yarn :
Cord is made by twisted together of plied yarn
6. Mono filament yarn :
Where only one filament used as yarn
7. Multi filament yarn :
Where more than one filament used as yarn
8. Twisted : Twist added
9. flat : No twist added
