This service letter is valid for all L16/24 engines in service. The solu-

tion to avoid turning of the valve bridge has become standard on all

L16/24 engines.

Engines delivered as Tier II will be retrofitted with clamps by the engine
licensee maker.

Mounting of clamp, one for each cylinder
1. Stop and secure the engine according to the MAN Diesel
& Turbo description in the instruction book.
2. Remove the top cover on the cylinder heads.
3. Install the fixing clamp on top of the two stud screws for
the fuel valve.
4. Assemble the two nuts delivered with the fixing clamp,
secure and tighten the nut following the same procedure
as for the fuel oil valve - 32Nm in oil.
5. Make sure there is free space on all sides of the valve
bridge to ensure free movement of the valve bridge.
6. Reassemble the top cover on the cylinder head.
