6. Duties of LP/ ALP incase of fire in
passenger train
● Stop the train immediately.
● Switch on flasher light.
● Detrain the passengers first.
● If there is any postal van on the train, save

● Give FIR to all concerned (KM, time, nature of fire
etc)
● Disconnect electrical fittings in coach, fuse links.
● Extinguish the fire with the fire extinguisher.
● Isolate burning vehicle at least distance of
45 mts on bothend.
● Give first aid to the injured persons
● Try to shift injured persons to the nearest
hospitals
● Protect the train as per GR 6.03
● If fire is uncontrollable, ask for fire brigade.
7. Adjacent line protection
1. Flasher light- ON, 2. Show warning signal.
Always protect 600 – 600 – 10 – 10 meters in the all system
of working by placing 4 detonators and on return collect
Intermediate detonator.
8. Single detonator Burst:
1. Immediately apply emergency brake and look for any
danger(PCEE safety instruc. no.5/2024 dt.14.06.24)
2. Note down the Km. No., section, Time.
3. Give intermittent whistle.
4. If crew do not notice any obstruction then start the
train and proceed cautiously and be prepared to stop
sort of any obstruction up to 1.5 km.

5. If no danger is found then Pick up normal speed and
give information to the S.M. of the next station.

9. LP/ALP/TMR duties in case of block


ticket working
1. When the train is stopped by S.M for sending
a train/L.E/Banker power/ A.R.M.E/ A.R.T. etc. in an
obstructed block section, proceed with the authority
to proceed without L/C – T/A 602 in the Abs Block
system or T/C 912(+ T/A912 if required) incase of
automatic block system issued to LP/ TMR by the
SM.
2. Speed restriction is always 15 kmph, when view
ahead is clear and 10kmph when view not clear and
night time on block ticket.

3. On arrival of rear or next station, block ticket


should be handed over to the S.M by LP/ TMR of
an engine with remarks of the section.

4. Km no. of place of obstruction , L.S.S. passed at On,


I.B. Passed at ON, sectional Caution Order etc. are
mentioned on the block ticket.

10. LP Duties during Dead engine attaching:
1. In normal case, always dead engine should
be attached in the rear of the leading engine.
2. In 1 in 100 down gradient dead engine should
not be attached in rear for all Trains (Goods &
Coaching)
3. Dead engine can be attached as per the
following table

4. In case of a dead engine attached in the rear


of a train it should be manned (LP/LI/ALP),
hand brakes should be in proper working

placed in the rear of the engine and BP pipe
should be coupled. Accompanied person
should carry flags, flashing hand signal lamp
and detonators.
11. Duties of LP / ALP In case of wheel-
slipping

1 Note KM no.and extent of damage carefully.


2 Inform TLC / SCR / power controller
regarding assistance required.
3 Inform to SM of the next station ahead in
writing (Full Particulars).
4 In case the track, In his opinion not safe for
passage of trains at the Normal speed, take
necessary action as per SR 6.07.01
12. Duties of LP/ALP in case of storm
/cyclone strong wind:
1. In case any train caught on run between
stations during cyclone or strong wind and in his
opinion (LP) is likely to endanger to the safety of

the train, immediately control the speed and stop
the train in the first convenient place to avoid
sharp curves, cuttings, bridges, high
embankments.
2. LP should take care to avoid any jerk while
stopping.
3. In case coaching train try to open doors and
windows of the coaches with help of the TMR or
Rly staff in train for free passage of wind
through the coaches.
4. Note time, km no. and inform TLC/SCR
/Coaching control/SM.
5. LP shall restart the train in consultation
with the TMR only after the cyclone /storm/or
wind abates.

13.Duties of LP/ALP in case of Engine


lurching or swaying:
1.If LP experiences heavy lurch, hunting or
swaying in theengine he should note time and
KM.

2.LP should proceed cautiously up to the next


station and report the facts in writing to the
MDTC/VSKP/ECoR 14 pillala
next SM/TLC/SCR.
3. LP should inform in this report whether
assistance is required or he will be able to
continue the journey up to the shed.
4. By consulting with TLC/SCR and on their
advice SM may allow the engine by light or
with the train up to the next engine changing
station.

14. Duties of LP/ALP in case of bad riding


attributed to any defect in the permanent
way.
1. LP should note the km accurately as possible
at which bad riding has occurred.
2. Note the time and section
3. LP shall stop the train at the next station
without clearing B.O.L and hand over a written
memo to SM.
4. LP should note the exact location and Km.No.
and the nature of the defect noticed.

5. He shall make a report of the occurrence to the


crew controller on arrival of the crew lobby.

6. Note: - In all cases of bad riding to any defect
in the P.Way noticed by LP/ALP/TMR shall
act as per G.R 6.07.01, 6.07.02, 6.07.03
accordingly.
15. Duties of LP in case of Train backing
in section.
1. Due to any abnormality, train can be
backed in section with walking speed
2. LP shall inform the TMR for backing in
section.

3. TMR will provide protection beyond the


point, up to which backing is required. He
should give one written memo to LP for
backing the train and take acknowledgement.
4. In case of I.B section or auto section train can't
be backed, but in case of unavoidable
circumstance, LP can inform TMR for backing.
5. TMR will ask rear SM for permission from I.B
telephone, if no train is sent up to IB then SM

can give PN to TMR for backing.
6. TMR should prepare two copies quoting the
P.N and one copy should be handed over to LP
and take acknowledgment in another copy.
7. In case of Auto section, if no train is sent in
rear of that train, S.M shall give P.N to TMR by
any means of communication, so the TMR do
the duties as in I.B territory; LP act
accordingly.
8. Train can be backed by lowering home
signal by S.M in rear station(in S/L) or P/In; on
D/L section Train is P/In, (T/369 (3b).
16. Shunting authorities / shunting
precautions to be taken by LP/ALP;
during shunting:
Shunting Authorities:
1. Within the station section if shunting performed
by signals; shunting memo not required, shunting
particulars shouldbe given to LP by written memo/
verbal orders.

2. If shunt signal defective T/806 should be issued
+ P.H.S.
3. If shunting beyond the station section, T/806 +
B/B or B/F PN issued.
Shunting Precautions:
1. Normal shunting speed maximum up to
15kmph.
2. Inflammable articles shunting speed up to
8kmph.
3. In case of Ghat section, engine always
should be in downgradient.

4. Un-affected shunting portion should be


secured first beforeshunting commenced
by pinning down 15% of vehicles.

5. Utmost care is required during shunting.

17. Duties of LP in case of shunt signal


defective
a. T/806 authority is given with Starter signal
and shunt signal No. to be passed at ON.
b.P.H.S at shunt signal by the STN staff or
shunting supervisor to be observed.
c. Ensure correct setting of points & locking.

d. Speed shall not exceed or 8kmph in case of
inflammablearticles and 15kmph for other
loads to pass the signal (Defective shunt
signal).
18.Dutiesof LP when distant signal has no
light:
1. Stop the train.
2. Ensure (P) marker.
3. Inform to Gd. and start the train very
cautiously up to thehome signal and obey
home signal aspect.
4. Give information to SM by writing regarding
failure.
5. At destination mention in the S&T Failure
book or in CMS in the crewlobby.

19. LP Duties in case of Home signal


defective
1 LP should stop the train and blow continuous long
whistle.

2 If calling on signal is lowered, LP start the train


cautiously and be prepared to stop any short
of obstruction.

3 If there is no calling on signal, if telephone is
provided, take
P.N from S.M and ensure PHS from
cabin/Yd/ PF, all facing & trailing points
are correctly set and locked with the speed
of maximum15kmph.
4 If written memo T/369(3b)+PHS issued, LP start
the train with speed of maximum 15 kmph
ensures proper route setting.
5 In case T/369(1) issued in rear station or last
stopping station, LP maintain sectional speed,
control the speed at home and ensure P.H.S at
home signal and proceed with maximum
15kmph by ensuring facing & trailing is set and
locked.
20.In case starter defective duties of LP
1 If calling on signal is lowered, proceed cautiously.

2 If T/369 (3b) is given, ensure P.H.S by LP at


starter and proceed maximum speed of
15kmph to pass the starter and ensure facing &
trailing points correctly set.
21.Duties of LP in case of Adv. Starter
/(L.S.S) defective:

a. S/L section → T/C 1425 with PN & ID for
up train → T/D 1425 with PN & ID for down
train
b. On D/L section → T/369 (3b) + PN + ID in
the Absolute Block system.
22. LP duties in case of head light
defective enroute
1 Switch on marker lights; maintain speed not
more than 20kmph. (Night, Thick & foggy
weather).
2 Give whistle frequently.
3 Inform to the TLC, SM of the next station for
repair of head light.
4 LP can proceed up to repair station or engine
changing station.

23. LP duties In case of leading driving


cab defective enroute
1 Inform to TLC/SM, of the next station.
2 ALP shall work the train from the trailing
cab.
3 The LP remain in leading cab for the

correct operation and controlling of thetrain.
4 Proceed with the speed not exceeding 40
kmph up to next repairing station.

24. LP Duties in case of SPM not


working enroute
1. LP shall work the train at a speed of 10%
less than M.P.S.
2. Calculation of a speed :-( Formula).
Total no. of. electric masts passed in one
minute x 4.3 = --- kmph (OR)
(60 x 60) / (Time taken to cover one km in
seconds) = kmph.

25. LP Duties in case of leading cab horn


defective
1. In daytime – maximum 40kmph speed up to
the next engine repairing/changing station.
2. In night – LP should clear block section
only with 40kmph.
3. ALP should blow the whistle if required
from the rear cab while on run.

26. If LP is incapacitated:
a. If ALP is not duly qualified he should stop
the train and inform all concerned, and
should not start the train. Wait for relief is
arranged.
b. If ALP is duly qualified, inform all
concerned, clear the section with
maximum 25kmph speed. (Only one block
section).
c. If required, shunt back the train into a convenient
line and wait for relief crew.

27. LP duties during thick, foggy and


tempestuous weather :

a.Green aspect → Speed is maximum 60 kmph


if fog signal device is not provided in engine
or up to 75 kmph in case fog signal device is
provided.
b. Attention(YY)(Auto section)→Speed upto
30 kmph
c. Caution (Y) → Cautious speed and be prepared
to stop short of next stop signal.

28. Duties of LP in case of T.S.L
working
a. Authority T/D 602 should be obtained with
P.N+ ID.
b. First train speed is 25kmph and inform
all gate man and track man en-route.
c. 2nd and subsequent trains speed is normal.
In wrong direction:

I. Switch ON FL,
use frequent
whistle.
II. Stop at the right line home signal OR wrong
line Adv. Starter, whichever comes first.
III. Train will be P/In (T/369(3b))
Protection as per GR 6.03.
29.Duties of crew, when IB-cum-Distant is
defective and telephone is working:
a. Stop the train. Obtain PN & ID over IB
telephone from rear SM.
b. Inform TMR of the train, exchange signal,
give 0-0 whistle.
c. Proceed cautiously and follow the next
stop signal aspect.

30. BP continuity test for goods trains:


1. Create 10 kg/cm2 of MR pressure and 5.0

kg/cm2 of BP in the locomotive.
2. Ensure 4.8 / 4.7 kg/cm2(above 58 vehicles) of
BP pressure in the BV/LV.
3.Apply A9 automatic brake valve and reduce BP
pressure by 1 kg/cm2 without pause (gauge
reading 4kg/cm2 .)
4. Confirm with the TMR for corresponding
reduction of BP pressure in the BV (3.6 - 3.8
kg/cm2)
5. LP has to close A8 Cock / 70 Cock / MODE
switch in TEST.
6. TMR shall open the BV emergency valve till BP
drops to zero, then close the BV emergency
valve.
7. If the BV is not the last vehicle,TMR shall open
the BP angle cock in the rear side of last vehicle
till BP drops to zero, then close the BP angle
cock.
8.Both LP and TMR to ensure dropping of BP
pressure completely to “0” and no further raise in
BP.
9.Now LP to normalize A8 Cock /70 Cock/MODE
switch to LEAD and keeps A-9 on RUN.
10. Charge 5.0 kg/cm2 of BP in the loco and 4.8 /
4.7 kg/cm2 of BP in the BV/LV.

31. BP continuity test for coaching trains:
a. Create 10 kg/cm2 of MR pressure and 5
kg/cm2 of BP, 6kg/cm2 of FP in the
Locomotive.
b. Ensure 4.8/4.7(above 26 coaches)kg/cm2 of
BP, 5.8/5.7kg/cm2 of FP in the SLR/LV.
c. Apply A9 automatic brake valve and reduce BP
pressure by 1 kg/cm2 without pause (gauge
4kg/cm2). Confirm with the TMR for
corresponding reduction of BP pressure in the
SLR / LV(3.6 - 3.8kg/cm2).
d. Release A-9 and ensure BP pressure 5kg/cm2
in loco and ensure 4.8/4.7kg/cm2 in SLR / LV.
e. After the BP pressure has stabilized in the
locomotive,LP to close A8 Cock / 70 Cock /
MODE switch in TEST.
f. Then the TMR shall immediately open the
Emergency brake valve to vent out the BP to
3.6 Kg/cm2 and close the emergency valve. LP
should observe that the pressure in the BP
gauge in the locomotive is within in the range
of 3.6 to 4.0 Kg/cm2.
g. Now both LP and TMR to ensure no further
raise in BP from this level.
MDTC/VSKP/ECoR 26 pillala
h. LP to open the A-8 cock /E-70 cock / mode
switch in LEAD and restore the BP in Loco
5kg/cm2 and in SLR/LV is 4.8/4.7kg/cm2
32.Duties of crew, when LSS-cum-Distant is
defective at ON:
After obtaining PLCT in S/L or T/369(3b)+
PN+ID in D/L, pass LSS cum Distant at ON,
Proceed cautiously and follow the aspects of the
next stop signal.
33.Duties of crew, when IB-cum-Distant is
defective and SM of rear station is
aware of it:
At the rear station, the train to be stopped.
a. SM shall issue T/369(3b) with PN & ID with
endorsement that to proceed with normal
sectional speed without stopping at IB duly
observing other Speed Restrictions in force.

b. LP has to control the train at IB cum Distant


and proceed cautiously and follow the
aspect of next stop signal
