PRAYERS FOR TUESDAY

CONTENDING FOR OUR DESTINIES

What Is Destiny?
Destiny is the unique, God-ordained purpose for which you were created. It encompasses the
plans, assignments, and calling God has placed on your life to fulfill His will and glorify Him.
Your destiny reflects the good works He prepared in advance for you to do (Ephesians 2:10).
It’s the reason you exist and the fulfillment of your life’s divine purpose.

Why Do We Need to Contend for Our Destiny?

The path to fulfilling your destiny is often met with resistance. The enemy seeks to oppose
God’s plans for your life, using distractions, delays, spiritual attacks, and even your own
doubts or fears to derail you (John 10:10). Contending for your destiny means actively
partnering with God to overcome these challenges through prayer, faith, and obedience.

Here’s why contending for your destiny is essential:

1. Spiritual Warfare Is Real: The enemy targets your purpose because it threatens his
kingdom. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we battle not against flesh and blood but
against spiritual forces.
2. God’s Plan Requires Your Participation: Fulfilling your destiny isn’t passive—it demands
prayer, diligence, and alignment with God’s will (Jeremiah 29:11).
3. Others Are Connected to Your Purpose: Your destiny often impacts others—your
family, community, or even generations to come. Contending for it ensures you fulfill
your God-given role in their lives.
4. God Receives Glory: When you walk in your purpose, it brings glory to God and
advances His kingdom on earth.

To contend for your destiny, immerse yourself in prayer, stand on God’s promises, and resist
the enemy’s schemes. Just as Paul encouraged Timothy to fight the good fight of faith (1
Timothy 6:12), we must actively pursue and protect the divine calling on our lives.

FOUR BATTLES OF DESTINY TO CONTEND WITH

1)BATTLES OF THE PAST

The battle of the past is one of the greatest challenges many people face as they pursue their
God-given destiny. The enemy often uses your past to hinder your future, employing guilt,
shame, and painful memories to make you feel unworthy of God’s purpose.

Why Does the Past Hinder Destiny?

Unhealed Wounds: Emotional pain from past experiences, such as rejection, betrayal, or
trauma, can create strongholds that limit your ability to trust God and others.

Prayer: JEREMIAH 30:17 For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares
the LORD, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’

Negative Labels: Words spoken over you—such as "failure," "unwanted," or "unworthy"—can

stick and distort your identity in Christ.

Cycles of Sin: Unbroken patterns of sin or generational curses can act as invisible chains,
keeping you stuck in the same struggles your family faced.

Strange appetites: Daniel 1:5

5 And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he
drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the
king.
Many have lost destiny because of strange Appetites. Esau lost his birth right because of a bowl
of lentils. The appetite caused him his destiny.
The meat that the king offered came from the altar of the Babylonian gods. The source of the
meat was demonic and that would have defiled them.
The destiny of Daniel was in the revealing of the kings dream and interpretation. He need divine
intelligence to download what God was saying but he understood holy power does not flow
through defiled mediums or vessels.
If he partook of the king’s meat, he would have attracted opposition from the enemy.
If you can tame your appetite you will access dimensions that are supernatural.

Strange altars; God told Gideon he was a mighty man but he could not go on with his destiny
until he had destroyed the altar of his father’s house.

Judges 6:25-34 That night the LORD told Gideon, “Take your father's bull and another bull seven
years old, tear down your father's altar to Baal, and cut down the symbol of the goddess
Asherah, which is beside it. Build a well-constructed altar to the LORD your God on top of this
mound.

2)BATTLES TO CONFORM TO THE IMAGE OF CHRIST

The battle to conform to the image of Christ is central to the Christian walk, as it reflects the
ongoing process of sanctification. This journey involves intentionally aligning your thoughts,
actions, and character with the example set by Jesus. Here are some insights and scriptural
foundations for understanding and engaging in this spiritual battle:

The Call to Conformity

Romans 8:29 says, "For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image
of his Son." This highlights God’s ultimate goal for believers: to reflect Christ in all aspects of
life. However, this transformation is not automatic; it requires cooperation with the Holy Spirit
and intentional effort.

The Nature of the Battle

The struggle to conform to Christ’s image often involves three main areas of conflict:

 The Flesh: Galatians 5:17 explains, "For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit,
and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh." The sinful nature resists the work of the
Spirit, leading to a daily fight to deny selfish desires and pursue righteousness.
 The World: Romans 12:2 urges, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind." The world promotes values that oppose
godly living, such as pride, materialism, and self-centeredness.
 The Enemy: Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, "For our struggle is not against flesh and
blood, but against... the spiritual forces of evil." Satan seeks to discourage, distract, and
deceive believers, hindering their transformation.

3)THE BATTLES TO RECEIVE GODS BLESSINGS

God’s blessings are not limited to material wealth or physical health; they include spiritual richness,
peace, purpose, and eternal life through Christ. Ephesians 1:3 declares, “Praise be to the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in
Christ.”

1 CHRONICLES 4:9-10 Jabez contended for a new name/ blessed name.

He refused to settle for a life of mediocre.

Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez,
saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” 10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh,
[a]

that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with
me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his
request.

4)THE BATTLE TO FULFILL OUR DESTINY AND GOD GIVEN PURPOSE

Solomon had a destiny but was derailed.

Samson like Solomon had a great future but did not understand the warfare
surrounding him.

1 CHRONICLES 22:9-10, 28:4-6

The destiny of Samson was aborted. He entertained the traits of the enemy.

He compromised.
