FAFSA UPDATE
All seniors who plan to pursue additional education beyond Roncalli are encouraged to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) between January 1, 2012 and March 1, 2012. Please note that some colleges/universities require the submission of the FAFSA prior to March 1, 2012 while others will also require the CSS Profile. Indiana College Cost Estimator Families can now estimate what their college costs might be by using the estimator service at www.indianacollgecosts.org/ An individual must register but this is a free service which allows you to compare the estimated net price of attendance of Indiana colleges. There is a great deal of financial aid information on this website including scholarship links, FAQs, handouts on understanding the financial aid process, and so much more! General Information 1. Practice Interviews: Seniors, if you are being interviewed for a scholarship or for admission, Mrs. Hall would be happy to run you through a mock interview. If interested, please make contact directly with Mrs. Hall at least a week in advance. You can drop by her office OR email her at [email protected]. This is a great opportunity to practice and then put your best foot forward when you are interviewing for special opportunities. 2. Graduation Announcements: Caps, gowns, and tassels for graduation have been ordered for all seniors. Graduates may keep the cap and tassel but the gown must be returned after graduation. There is a $20 rental fee for the graduation attire but the money is returned when the graduation gown is returned. The MIBOR Scholarship is now available. In addition to the essay, students must include a resume of activities (school, athletic, community, and service) as well as leadership roles. The application must be postmarked no later than April 13, 2012 and are available in the guidance carousel. Additional information is available at www.SouthsideMIBOR.com 2. Ball State University offers a chemistry scholarship to students with strong grades. Students must include an official transcript (with class rank so you need to talk with a counselor), a letter asking to be considered for the scholarship, and at least one letter of reference from a science teacher. US Bank Scholarship is available through March at usbank.com/scholarship 4. Franklin Township Civic League offers a $1,000 Community Service Scholarship to qualified Franklin Township residents. Applicants should be involved in community service with a focus on efforts directly benefitting Franklin Township. Additionally, the student must maintain a cumulative C average in his/her academic course work. The deadline is March 31. Applications can be found in the guidance carousel or on-line at www.ftcivicleague.org Download the information from the Community Outreach page. 5. 100 Black Men of Indianapolis offer ALL students regardless of ethnicity the opportunity to participate in a College and Scholarship Fair on March 10, 2012 at Pike High School from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Scholarships will be awarded on-site. Students should bring several copies of their update resume and transcripts. The Frances Mazur Scholarship is available to seniors who demonstrate character, leadership, financial need, and scholastic achievement. Students must submit a typed, double-spaced essay, minimum of one page, explaining how they meet the eligibility requirements. Two letters of recommendation, a transcript, photo, and W-2 tax forms are also required. Application information is available in the guidance carousel. The Dr. Donald King Scholarship is available to seniors with strong Christian leadership, solid academic performance, and financial need. Applications are due before May 1 and are available in the guidance carousel. This is a $1,000 award and they will select two recipients. 4. The Jessica Pinna Memorial Scholarship is available to seniors who live in Perry Township and who have a gpa of 3.0 and above. Students must submit an essay on Responsible Driving and plan to attend an Indiana post-secondary institution. There will be two scholarships in the amount of $500 each. The deadline to submit information is April 10, 2012. (new, later date) Applications are available in the guidance carousel. 5. Seniors with a minimum of a 2.5 gpa and who are a first generation college-bound students with financial need are eligible to apply for the Circle City Classic Scholarship. In addition to an essay, students must also submit a transcript, resume, two letters of recommendation, and a completed FAFSA. Deadline to submit an application is April 15, 2012. More information is in the guidance carousel. 6. The Indiana Pacers offer a scholarship to seniors based on an essay regarding leadership and teamwork. The official entry form can be found in the guidance carousel. Applications must be postmarked by March 2 and received by March 7, 2012. The grand prize winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship and the ten semi-finalists will receive two Pacers vs. Phoenix Suns game tickets. 7. The Watercolor Society of Indiana offers the James C. Lentz Memorial Scholarship to students who plan to pursue a degree in either fine arts or arts education. This is a $1,000 award and the submission must include the completed application, portfolio, artists statement, letter of recommendation, and a transcript. The deadline to submit the information is May 1. The application and additional information is available from Mr. Stratton (room 017) or the guidance carousel. 8. Phi Beta Psi Sorority offers a scholarship to any seniors who will be pursuing the fields of Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician, Radiologic Technologist or Cytotechnologist. This is a $750 competitive scholarship and it is renewable. Applications must be received by March 9, 2012 and are available in the guidance carousel. 9. The Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program recognizes and rewards young volunteers (ages 6-18) who help make their communities a better place to live. To be eligible, the student must meet the following criteria as of March 15, 2012. Applicants must be between the ages of 6 and 18 and not yet a high school graduate, the actions must be described in detail and should document efforts above and beyond what is expected of a child his or her age, and the volunteer efforts must have occurred in the last year. http://www.kohlscorporation.com/CommunityRelations/scholarship/index.asp Applications are available on line as well as in the guidance carousel.
10. Are you a senior considering a career in health care? If so, consider applying for the Its Our Community Health Care Scholarship. In addition to nursing and pre-med studies, this scholarship also includes physical therapy, biomedical engineering, food science, and pharmacy majors. Information on this scholarship is available in the guidance carousel. The deadline date for applying is March 23, 2012. 11. Vincennes University is offering a Middle Income Scholarship to families who have an adjusted gross income of less than $75,000 and who are not eligible for state or federal grant funds. Students must have a 2.5 gpa. Interested students can apply on-line at or applications are available in the guidance carousel. 12. Nativity Parishioners: The Fr. Louis T. Gootee Council of the Knights of Columbus Scholarship is now available to seniors as well as eighth graders entering a Catholic high school. Applications are available in the guidance carousel. The deadline is April 16, 2012 by 9:00 a.m. Completed applications should be returned to Nativity Grade School or the Nativity parish office. 13. Phi Beta Psi Sorority offers a scholarship to any student who will be pursuing the fields of medical technologist, medical laboratory technician, radiologic technologist or cytotechnologist. This is a competitive scholarship for $750 a year for up to four years. Students must have a 3.0/4.0 gpa. An essay, transcript and two letters of recommendation are required. The deadline to submit the information is March 9, 2012. Applications are available in the guidance area. 14. Zonta International offers a $500 scholarship to young women ages 16-19 who have demonstrated initiative and high achievements in community, school, and other volunteer activities. District winners have the opportunity to compete for additional scholarship monies. Specifically Zonta candidates will demonstrate an active commitment to volunteerism, has experience in local or student government, volunteer leadership, and knowledge of Zonta International and its programs. Two recommendations are required as well. The deadline for submitting application materials is March 15, 2012. Applications are available either on-line at www.Zonta.org or in the guidance carousel. 15. Cox Scholar ProgramsAccepted students at Indiana University are eligible to apply for this program through their OneStart Accounts (onestart.iu.edu) under the "Financial" section. Look for "Bloomington Scholarship Application". Each of the Cox Scholar Programs has a different work component, and is designed to help hard-working students with financial need by providing a scholarship of at least 75% of the official cost of attendance at IU. The deadline for all application materials is March 10th. 16. The Indiana Sheriffs Association sponsors forty $500 award to students planning on a career in the criminal justice field. Applicants must be a current member of the Association OR a dependent child or grandchild of a current Association member. Applications are available in the guidance carousel and must be returned before April 1, 2012. 17. PARENT NOMINATED AWARD: Williams Comfort Air offers fifteen ExtraordinAIRy Treasures scholarships to students who plan to pursue additional education (trade, vocational, 2-year or 4-year) beyond high school. Students are nominated with an essay written by a parent, teacher, counselor, neighbor, employer, etc. The essay should convey why this high school senior is an ExtraordinAIRy Treasure to our future by including an overview of the nominees life skills in action such as perseverance in overcoming difficulty circumstances, integrity, kindness, and commitment to community to name a few. Tell them who the nominee is at heart. The student has NO PART in applying for these scholarships. Submit an application at: www.MyIndianaTreasure.org The deadline is March 25, 2012. 18. The Cecil Head Fine Arts Scholarship is based on submitted art work to an award committee. Each student may submit up to five original works of art. The ability to work in different media is important. Fashion design and mechanical drawing submissions will not be considered. Additional criteria are also specified in the handout which is available directly from Mr. Stratton in the art room or Mrs. Hall in the guidance area. Submission must arrive by April 30th. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority offers the Carolyn Cain Scholarship to minority females with a 3.0+ GPA and community service. Interested students must complete the application which includes an essay and provide two letters of recommendation. Deadline is March 31, 2012. Applications are available in the guidance carousel.
