About SMSIMSR
SMSIMSR is a medical college guided by the norms of the National Medical Commission
(NMC), the apex steering body for medical education in India, the Medical College comprises
of an academic block and teaching hospital, which shall provide quality medical care to
ALL, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, and financial status. Free medical education is
offered to deserving students.
What We Do
‘Right to Education’ is the fundamental right of every child and citizen of this nation.
Sri Madhusudan Sai Unfortunately, most children are bereaved of the right kind of education, especially the
rural population. Pursuing medical education is a far-fetched dream for the rural due to
Institute of Medical Sciences
the impeding factors of affordability and accessibility.
and Research
With a Vision: IN RURAL – FOR RURAL, this Medical College shall nurture medical doctors
with noble values, who shall dedicate themselves to serve the underserved, particularly
in rural India, with a sense of gratitude and readiness to sacrifice. It will ensure that
every deserving candidate will be able to pursue medical education and thus will help in
reducing the brain drain in the nation.
Why We Do
Around ten lakh students appear every year for NEET examinations to pursue MBBS
country-wide whereas only 90,000 seats are available. Only 10% of total applicants qualify
for NEET. This scenario is poorer and bleak when it comes to the availability of such highly
demanded courses to students hailing from marginalized rural backgrounds as a result
of intensive commercialization. It becomes next to impossible for rural students to have
access due to the affordability crisis and also the language barrier. More than 70% of
the country’s population reside in rural hinterlands and have access to only 25% of the
country’s healthcare infrastructure. The current doctor-patient ratio in rural India is as
low as 1:11,082 leading to a severe push for a fraction of the 55 million rural population
to enter poverty.
When highest standard of Education and Healthcare is imparted, the beneficiaries out
of immense gratitude will try their best to offer it back to societal welfare. The deserving
candidates will receive their rightful position to learn and contribute thereafter. Only rural
students will return back to their villages and serve the pockets of the population residing
in the villages which are in deep need of quality healthcare.
In return for such education, every student agrees to serve in any of the hospitals
established by or registered with the University or allied trusts, institutions or
foundations of the sponsoring body in rural areas or medically underserved areas as
may be posted or transferred by the university at its complete discretion in total for the
period such student has studied in the University.

4. Leadership A commercialised system of healthcare and medical education, which has made medical
education exorbitant and out of reach for most parents in the country, is the greatest
obstacle in the path of motivating young medical professionals to serve selflessly with
compassion. When education is purchased, the educated will only be motivated to sell
their education for money. This residential Medical Institute is our humble attempt to
cross over this obstacle and inspire youth drawn from rural and needy backgrounds with
idealism to serve in rural areas.
We are a new Medical Institute but one that comes with a track record of success in the
path leading to its establishment. This will be a temple of learning and healing where
human excellence is nurtured along with academic excellence by a dedicated band of
teachers led by Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai. By providing a transformative experience
through the body, mind and soul, students will be shaped here as highly skilled, self-reliant,
compassionate, and courageous medical professionals, prepared for leadership in their
field and sacrifice for the well-being of society. With this bold and innovative approach,
we hope to create a fresh and much needed breeze of compassionate healthcare in our
country.
Chancellor’s Message
Sri B N Narasimha Murthy
– Sri B N Narasimha Murthy
Chancellor, SSSUHE
‘Inspired Teachers’ and ‘Inspired Doctors’ are the need of the hour all over the world,
and more so, in our country, where nearly 70% of people live in underdeveloped rural
regions. An inspired teacher is one who loves his students as his own children and is
motivated to shape good citizens by himself setting a good example. An inspired doctor is
a combination of competence and compassion and is fired with zeal for selfless service.
Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence, which has been fairly successful in creating
a band of inspired teachers in the last four years, is now venturing to generate a steady
stream of inspired medical professionals with the establishment of the Institute for
medical sciences and research named after its benevolent founder, Sri Madhusudan Sai
during this academic year, 2023-24.

Extracurricular activities
Extracurricular activities along with para vidya at the medical college hostel are valuable
for the holistic development of students. These will provide opportunities for relaxation,
socialization, and personal growth outside of academic pursuits. Extracurricular activities
may include sports, cultural events, clubs, and community service initiatives. They help
foster teamwork, leadership skills, and stress management, promoting an all-around
educational experience. Additionally, spiritual activities such as meditation sessions,
yoga classes, para vidya classes, and religious gatherings can offer a sense of peace,
inner reflection, and moral support to students, enhancing their overall well-being and
resilience.
Gurukula system of education, which is a combination of both Para and Apara Vidya,
provides a holistic education for the body, mind, and soul of a human personality moulding
individuals with exceptional intellect, treating patients with compassionate hearts, and
competent hands. We also strongly consider that any values-based education becomes
effective only when there is a serious effort to transform the parent along with the child.
Thus, the four pillars supporting the path to achieve Human Excellence are Academics,
Spirituality, Self-Development, and Parental Concern.
As part of Para Vidya session, students will have daily classes based on spiritual texts
like Upanishads, Bhagavad-Gita, Bhagavatam, Vedas, etc. Talks will also be given by
fellow teachers, elders, and many important guests on campus. These guests include
men and women who have attained great success in their respective fields - Ministers,
Administrators, Industrialists, Judges, Ambassadors, Entrepreneurs, Artists, and Sports
persons, amongst others. When students interact with these guests, they imbibe the
values and importance of the path of devotion to God and the path of goodness and
godliness. In addition, weekly study circle sessions take place where spiritual questions
are raised and answered.
