General Rules
❖ The right to participate in the competitions of Cochin University Science and
Technology Youth Festival is restricted to the full-time and part-time students of
constituent departments/Colleges of Cochin University.
❖ The office bearers of the Cochin University Union are not eligible to participate in the
youth festival competitions.
❖ Any student of CUSAT other than the office bearers of Cochin university union can
participate in the youth festival competitions even if they are given different charges
(including Convener-ship) for the conduct of the youth festival.
❖ The overall charge of each zone including selection, organisation and participation
rests with the zone captain.
❖ The students shall carry their Identity Cards issued by their University/College. The
zone captains shall submit valid Identity cards of participants for verification at the
time of registration.
❖ Participants must bring their own musical instruments, costumes etc. or other special
items required for different events.
❖ An item in the competition will be conducted only if there is a minimum of five
registrations for individual items and three for group items. The competition for an
item will be conducted even if the minimum required is not met due to the withdrawal
of registration.
❖ The university union will arrange stage and stage requirements. Special settings if
required for drama, skit, etc. would have to be arranged by the participating zones.
❖ No makeup will be provided. Makeup man, materials, etc. will have to be arranged by
the participating zones.
❖ External help for background music, lighting, stage arrangements during on stage
performances can be sought if not specified otherwise.
❖ Using electronic devices such as Mobile phone, Bluetooth earphones, Smart watches,
etc. while participating in Literary events and Fine Arts events (except Spot
photography) will lead to participant disqualification.
❖ A rolling trophy instituted by the University Union will be awarded to the winning
zone. Further, there will be another trophy for the runner up zone.
❖ A student can participate in a maximum of 5 individual items and 3 group items. Prize
winners will be disqualified from all the events if the above rule is violated at the
decision of the organising committee.
❖ There shall be a maximum of 5 entries for an individual item and 2 entries for a group
item from each zone, unless otherwise specified.
❖ Points awarded
1.Individual items:
1st place: 5 points
2nd place: 3 points
3rd place: 1 point
2. Group items:
1st Place: 10 points
2nd place: 6 points
3rd place: 3 points
❖ Steering committee headed by the General Convener will be the superior body and the
members of the participating institution will have to strictly abide by the rules and
regulations laid down from time to time by the steering committee of the Union.
❖ All participants shall always maintain dignity and decorum at the festival. If the
behaviour of any participant/spectator is found contrary to the objectives of the
Festival, the Steering-Cum-Appellate committee may take suitable action against the
persons concerned.
❖ The participants are requested to carefully study the rules and regulations for the
various events. The decision of the judges appointed for different events shall be final.
It is expected that their judgement will be respected. In case of any dissatisfaction, the
matter may be referred to the Jury of Appeals. Complaints if any may be forwarded to
the General Convener in writing through the concerned staff member who is in charge
of the institution or zone within one hour after the announcement of the results. The
charge of an appeal will be Rs.2000 for group items and Rs. 1000 for individual
items.
❖ No appeal shall lie against the decision of the Jury of Appeals.
❖ The first and second position holders of SARGAM’25 will be selected for the Kerala
Inter university arts festival if their respective events are included in the arts festival.
❖ The selection to Inter university arts festival will be subjected to the guidelines of the
organizing committee of Inter university arts festival.

❖ The complaint regarding the marks awarded by the judges shall not be entertained by
the jury of appeal.
❖ The jury of appeal shall have the power to consider any complaints received in
writing from the candidate regarding the conduct of youth festival and it shall have
power to call for any record it finds relevant and connected with the conduct of youth
festival.
❖ The panel of judges appointed by the University Union will judge competition. Each
panel will have a minimum of two members except for the quiz.
❖ If a substitute wishes to take part in an item, it should be reported to the program
committee by the coordinator of the concerned zone, at least 24 hours prior to the
scheduled commencement of the competition.
DISQUALIFICATION FOR VIOLATION OF
ELIGIBILITY RULES
❖ Any disqualification of a participant on the ground of ineligibility will result in the
automatic disqualification of the contingent for that arts festival.
SCORING
❖ The position for different events shall be awarded based on the average of the marks
awarded by the panel of judges generally; the variations of the marks awarded by
different judges shall not be greater than 30%. If the difference between the highest
and lowest marks awarded exceeds 30% than the average of the two marks, whose
difference does not exceed 30% shall be taken. However, in case the difference
between the marks awarded by the three different judges is greater than 30% shall be
taken as the basis and the average of these two marks is taken.
ACCOMPANISTS
❖ Play back singers and persons playing musical instruments etc. are the accompanists
mentioned in this Rule Book. Curtain pullers, persons setting stage lighting, makeup
artists and helpers like operators of CD etc. will not come under the category of
accompanists. Students are preferred as accompanists and helpers. But in case of
necessity, the participants may use CD/bring outside accompanists in accordance with
item- wise rules.
❖ The time schedule and the general rules of the events can be changed by the steering
committee without prior notice.
❖ Each participant and accompanist should bring their identity card and should produce
it on demand.
❖ Audio cassettes can be used for all the dance items and organisers will not be held
responsible, in case of any audio failure or low audible quality of the cassettes thus
produced.
❖ Performances of participants that exceed the given time limit for each event will be
valued by the decision of the steering committee. The Programme Committee may
reschedule and pre- announce programmes on account of any sudden development.
❖ The University Union can make any further changes to the rules without notice.
NOTE
1. Kalathilakam, Kala Pratibha will be selected based on total points secured in individual
items in different categories (at least three categories including dance). If such a person does
not exist, points earned will be considered.
2. The person who secures maximum individual points in each category (LITERARY, FINE
ARTS, MUSIC, DANCE, and THEATRE) will be named as the SARGA PRATHIBHA of the
following category.
3. In the case of tie for the above titles, the number of 1st places won by the participants will
be considered.
4. Further questions if any will be settled considering places won ingroup event.
5. In case, the performance exceeds the time limit the curtain will be put down and the
microphone will be cut off.
6. A warning bell will be given before the last 1 minute of every competition.
7. The participants should report at the stage within 15 minutes of the first call for the event.
Event Rules
CULTURAL PROCESSION
❖ This will be a zone wise competition.
❖ Each zone will have only one slot for performance.
❖ Each zone has to bring a flag (which includes the zone emblem) of their own during
the procession.
❖ Procession is based on a theme which is traditional art forms and culture of Kerala.
❖ The judgement criteria is based on representation according to the theme and
maximum participation from the zone.
FASHION SHOW
❖ It is a team event. A team can have a minimum of 6 members and maximum of 10
members
❖ Time limit for every team will be 15 minutes; 12 minutes for the ramp walk
(including stage setup and performance) and 3 minutes for question answer session.
❖ Exceeding the time limit will lead to negative marking.
❖ The theme for the event is
❖ Incorporate bold and vibrant colors, unique patterns and creative textures symbolizing
the diversity of life. Designs can reflect different cultures and traditions while
showcasing diverse rhythms of life, power and celebration.
❖ Background narration and background visuals are allowed.
❖ Background music and visuals must be submitted in Google Drive prior to the event.
❖ Participants are expected to arrive in their respective costumes.
❖ Any form of vulgarity or obscenity will lead to debarring the team from the contest.
❖ Use of hazardous materials, cigarettes, alcohol and any unfair means is
strongly prohibited.
❖ The team will be judged on theme, costume, walk, posture, attitude and performance
in Q&A session.
LITERATURE
ESSAY WRITING
POETRY WRITING
SHORT STORY WRITING
❖ Separate competitions will be there in Malayalam, English, Hindi, Tamil, Arabic,
Urdu and Sanskrit for Short story writing and poetry writing.
❖ In essay writing there will not be competition in Sanskrit language.
❖ Maximum time allotted is 60 minutes.
❖ The topic will be given on the spot.
❖ These rules are applicable for the above three events.
ELOCUTION
❖ Separate competitions will be there in Malayalam, English, Hindi, Tamil, Arabic and
Sanskrit
❖ Each speaker will be allowed to speak for a maximum of five minutes.
❖ Subject/Topic for the item will be given 5 minutes prior to the competition.
❖ Judgement will be based on qualities like correctness of language, clarity of
expression, development of the theme and other rhetorical qualities.
RECITATION
❖ Separate competitions will be there in Malayalam, English, Hindi, Tamil, Arabic,
Urdu and Sanskrit.
❖ Maximum time of recitation is five minutes.
❖ Judgement will be based on qualities like correctness of language, clarity of
expression, style of reciting, the relevance of the poem etc.
DEBATE
❖ A zone can have a maximum of two teams.
❖ Each team will be represented by the two debaters; one will speak FOR the motion,
while the other will speak AGAINST the motion.
❖ Topic will be given 5 minutes prior to the competition.
❖ Each debater will be allowed to speak for a maximum of 5 minutes.
❖ Paper reading is not allowed.
❖ Separate competition will be held for English, Malayalam and Hindi.
SHORT FILM REVIEW
❖ A movie will be played by the program committee at the venue.
❖ The participants should write a review about the same movie in 90 minutes.
❖ The review should be in English.
❖ Uses of any electronic devices such as mobile phones/ tablet/ PCs are strictly
prohibited
AKSHARASLOKAM
❖ Separate competitions will be there in Malayalam, Sanskrit and Arabic.
❖ Judgement will most likely be based on qualities like correctness of language, clarity
of expression and other rhetorical qualities.
QUIZ
❖ The quizmaster will conduct the quiz competition.
❖ The pattern and method of Quiz will be disclosed by the quiz master at the venue.
❖ Winners will be determined based on the total points secured by teams.
❖ A team of two or three participants shall participate.
SCRIPT WRITING
❖ The script must be written in Malayalam.
❖ It should follow a proper screenplay format, including scene headings, dialogues, and
descriptions.
❖ The theme will be provided at the time of the competition.
❖ Any genre is allowed, but the script should be original and socially responsible.
❖ The script should be suitable for a short film of 5-10 minutes.
❖ There should be a minimum of 5 scenes and maximum of 10 scenes.
❖ The script must be neatly handwritten in legible handwriting.
❖ Participants must use blue or black ink.
❖ Illegible or poorly presented scripts may lead to disqualification.
❖ The script must be an original work by the participant.
❖ Plagiarism or adaptations of existing stories will result in disqualification.
❖ The time duration for the competition will be 1 hour.
❖ The script will be evaluated on the following criteria:
Creativity & Originality – Unique storytelling and fresh ideas.
Narrative Structure – Clear beginning, middle, and end.
Character Development – Depth and relatability of characters.
Dialogue & Language – Natural and engaging conversations.
Overall Impact – Emotional, social, or entertainment value.
❖ Any form of plagiarism or offensive content promoting hate speech, violence, or
discrimination will lead to immediate disqualification.
FINE ARTS
PAINTING
❖ The painting must be either oil colour, water colour or pastel colour
❖ Events will be conducted on the spot and participants will be requested to do painting
on the subject given by the in-charge(s) of the competition.
❖ Duration will not be more than 2 hours.
❖ Candidates shall bring their own material like brushes, paints etc. The organisers will
provide only paper /sheets.
DIGITAL ART
❖ The total time allotted for the event is 2 hours.
❖ Participants must create their artwork using Adobe Illustrator
❖ The theme will be provided at the time of the competition.
❖ Participants must bring their own laptops and mouse for the competition. (Laptops
with touchscreens and any other input devices such as graphic tablets, styluses, or
external touchpads are not allowed)
❖ Submissions must be original and created during the competition. Pre-made elements,
stock images, or AI-generated content are not allowed.
❖ All built-in tools and features of Adobe Illustrator are allowed, except external plugins
or automated design generators.
❖ Artwork will be evaluated based on:

❖ The file should be saved in JPEG/ PNG file format. The file should be saved in the
folder named Digital Art created on the desktop.
❖ The file name should be compulsorily participant's chest number. All other file name

❖ Confirm the folder and check that your file is saved in the specific folder before
logging off. Organizers will not be responsible for any lost file.
❖ Plagiarism or any violation of the rules will lead to immediate disqualification.
POSTER MAKING
❖ The Item will be conducted on the spot and the participants will be requested to do a
poster on the given topic by the in-charge(s) of the competition.
❖ Duration will not be more than 2 hours 30 minutes.
❖ Participants shall bring their own material. Only the Drawing paper / Sheet will be
provided by the organisers.
COLLAGE
❖ The Item will be conducted on the spot on the given topic.
❖ Duration will not be more than 2 hours 30 minutes.
❖ Participants shall bring their own scissors and other material required for the contest.
❖ Collage must be prepared from old magazines.
CLAY MODELLING
❖ The item will be conducted on the spot.
❖ Duration will not be more than 3 hours.
❖ Topics/ size and other specific rules shall be announced on the spot.
❖ The organisers will provide Clay.
CARTOONING
PENCIL DRAWING
❖ The item will be conducted on the spot on the given subject.
❖ Duration will not be more than 2 hours.
❖ Participants shall bring their own material. Only the Drawing paper will be provided
RANGOLI
❖ Duration will not be more than 2 hours 30 minutes.
❖ Participants shall bring their own material.
❖ This art is known differently in various regions such as Mandna, Alpana, Alekhan,
Kolam, Rangoli, etc. For this, the medium and form for expression can be free hand,
pictorial and descriptive.
❖ Only one medium shall be used - Poster Colour or Flower Petals or Saw- dust or
Pulses or Rice without pasting, glitter powder is not permitted.
❖ The Participants shall have to prepare a Rangoli within the space provided by the
organisers.
SPOT PHOTOGRAPHY
❖ The participant has to bring their own digital camera.
❖ The digital camera should have a memory card, together with a card reader (USB
type- A) which will be formatted before the commencement of the contest.
❖ The time limit will be 2 hours 30 minutes.
❖ The participant can submit a maximum of 5 photographs on the theme announced on
the spot by the judges.
❖ No mixing, matching or morphing of photographs will be permitted
❖ Software such as Photoshop etc. for enhancing images is not permitted.
❖ The organisers will have all rights for the use of these pictures as and when they deem
fit.
❖ The memory card which the photos were taken on, is to be submitted within the time
limit to the invigilator, and it should only contain those 5 pictures.
❖ Digital images are evaluated based on IMPACT, COMPOSITION, TECHNICAL
QUALITY, and SUITABILITY for the specific theme.
❖ The additional instructions will be announced on the spot.
MEHENDI
❖ The due credit will be given on originality, creativity, decorative art with aesthetic
sense.
❖ Use of handprints, any kind of mould and any kind of decorative material is not
allowed.
❖ The participant has to bring its own Mehendi, and other materials required for it.
❖ The total duration for completing the painting shall not exceed 2.30 hours.
❖ The Mehendi must be extended to the palmer side forearm with a minimum six-inch
length.
❖ The participant has to draw the Mehendi on the palmer side of both hands of the
model. The model should be the student at the same university.
FACE PAINTING
❖ Duration will not be more than 2 hours.
❖ Participants must bring the materials required.
❖ A theme will be given at the venue.
MUSIC
LIGHT MUSIC (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants
❖ Only Malayalam non-film songs are allowed.
❖ The duration of the song shall not exceed 5 minutes.
❖ Judgement will be made on the qualities like Swara, Thala, Composition, general
impression etc.
CLASSICAL MUSIC (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants
❖ The item should be presented in Carnatic style only.
❖ Maximum time allowed for performance is 10 minutes.
❖ Movie songs are not allowed.
❖ Judgement will be based on the qualities like Swara, Thala, composition, general
impression etc.
❖ Only instruments for Sruthi are allowed.
WESTERN VOCAL SOLO
❖ Language of the song shall only be English.
❖ Duration of the song should be more than 3 minutes and shall not exceed 6 minutes.
❖ Judgement will be made on the qualities like composition, rhythm, coordination and
general impression.
PERCUSSION INSTRUMENT EASTERN STYLE
❖ Maximum number of accompanists is one.
❖ Participants shall bring instruments.
❖ Time allotted for the event is not less than 8 minutes and not more than 10 minutes.
❖ Judgement will be based on the qualities like Thala, composition, general impression
etc.
❖ Electronic instruments are not allowed for the performance.
❖ The accompanist shall not play a percussion instrument.
PERCUSSION INSTRUMENT (TABALA)
❖ Maximum number of accompanists is one.
❖ Participants shall bring instruments.
❖ Time allotted for the event is not less than 8 minutes and not more than 10 minutes.
❖ Judgement will be based on the qualities like Anguli, Thala, composition, general
impression etc.
❖ Electronic instruments are not allowed for the performance.
❖ The accompanist shall not play a percussion instrument.
PERCUSSION INSTRUMENT (CHENDA)
❖ Maximum number of accompanists is one.
❖ Participants shall bring instruments.
❖ Time allotted for the event is not less than 6 minutes and not more than 10 minutes.
❖ Chendakool should be used only using one hand. The other hand should be used for
making thalam.
❖ The candidate can select Chendakooru (thalam) from the below mentioned options
1.Chembakooru
2.Adanthakooru
3.Panchaarikooru
❖ The candidate should play pathikalam, idavattam, idanilla, iriyada under the given
time.
❖ Electronic instruments are not allowed for the performance.
❖ The accompanist shall not play a percussion instrument.
PERCUSSION INSTRUMENT WESTERN STYLE
❖ Maximum number of accompanists is one.
❖ Participant shall bring instruments
❖ Time allotted for the event is not less than 8 minutes and not more than 10 minutes.
❖ Judgement will be based on the qualities like Thala, composition and general
impression.
❖ The accompanists shall not play a percussion instrument.
WIND INSTRUMENT
❖ Separate competitions will be held for Eastern as well as Western styles.
❖ The accompanist shall not play a wind instrument.
❖ All other rules are the same as above.
STRINGED INSTRUMENT
❖ Separate competitions will be held for Eastern, Western, Veena and Guitar.
❖ The accompanist shall not play a string instrument.
❖ All other rules are the same as above.
GROUP SONG INDIAN
❖ No movie song should be presented as part of the group song.
❖ The group songs should be taken from Indian songs, which can be in regional
language.
❖ Judgement will be based on the quality like singing only and not on makeup,
costumes and actions of the zone. Sruthi, Thalam, Rhythm, Harmony etc. will be
considered for the judgement.
❖ Maximum number of participants shall be 6 and accompanists should be 3.
❖ Only students are allowed in the team as participants (singers/non-singers playing
instruments).
❖ Maximum time allowed for the group song is 10 minutes and setting time is 5
minutes.
❖ Sruthi box can be used.
WESTERN VOCAL GROUP
❖ The song should be from the English language.
❖ Maximum of six singers in a group and maximum number of accompanists (Students)
playing instrument shall be three.
❖ Keyboard facility can be used.
❖ Judging will be based on the quality of singing a composition, rhythm and orchestra
only.
❖ No Extra points for makeup, costume and action of the team.
❖ Maximum time allowed for the group song is 10 minutes that does not include setting
time. The setting time for a group shall not exceed 5 minutes.
GANAMELA
❖ Maximum number of participants shall be 7.
❖ Karaoke and background music is not allowed.
❖ Maximum allotted time for the performance is 30 minutes.
❖ Minimum of four songs & maximum of five songs.

❖ Partcipants should use the instruments themselves.
❖ Only students are allowed in the team as participants (singers/non-singers playing
instruments).
❖ All the music should be given as a single file
VRINDAVADHYAM
❖ Maximum number of participants shall be 7.
❖ Western and eastern style instruments shall be used only by the participants.
❖ Judgement will be based on the music only and not on makeup, costumes and actions
of the zone. Sruthi, Thalam, Rhythm, Harmony etc. will be considered for the
judgement.
❖ Maximum allotted time for the performance is 10 minutes.
❖ Partcipants should use the instruments themselves.
❖ Only students are allowed in the team as participants.
NADAN PATTU (FOLK SONG)
❖ The group can consist of a minimum of seven participants and maximum of ten
participants.
❖ Minimum 50% of participants should be singers.
❖ Tradition of the folk song to be revealed on stage.
❖ Songs can be used - " anushtana paattukal", "festival songs" & "kaalippaattukal"
❖ The duration of the performance will be a minimum of eight and a maximum of 15
minutes. This does not include setting time which shall not be more than 5 minutes.
❖ Film songs are not permitted.
❖ The team must present folk songs in Malayalam Karaoke and background music is
prohibited.
❖ Participants should use the instruments themselves.
❖ No mark for dress code.
MAPPILAPATTU (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants
❖ Maximum time allowed for performance is 5 minutes.
❖ Judgement will be based on Sruthilayam & Rhythm, Bhavam, Language & Literary
Clarity.
❖ Movie songs are not allowed. Preference given to traditional Mappila Pattu.
HINDUSTANI CLASSICAL VOCAL (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants.
❖ Maximum number of accompanists is one (Tabala).
❖ Maximum time allowed for performance is 10 minutes.
❖ Judgement will be based on Sruthilayam & Rhythm, Bhavam, Language & Literary
Clarity.
❖ "Sruthi box" or "Thamburu" allowed sound knowledge in different "Gharanas" of
hindustani, experince in "Alaap" rendering and improvisation in swara pattern in
"Raagas". Sound knowledge in " Tabala Taalas" in synchronising music rendering and
perfection in "Saahithya sruthi" are desirable.
GAZAL (MALE AND FEMALE)- IRRESPECTIVE OF
LANGUAGE
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants
❖ Accompanists allowed 2 (Harmonium and Tabala).
❖ Maximum time allowed for performance is 10 minutes.
❖ Judgement will be based on Sruthilayam & Rhythm, Bhavam, Language & Literary
Clarity.
❖ Creativity and improvisation in gazal rendering with an impressive raga pattern
preferred.
VANCHIPPAATTU
❖ Maximum number of participants is 10.
❖ Maximum time allotted is 10 minutes.
❖ Stage settings are not allowed.
❖ Judgement will be based on rhythm, makeup, costumes and overall effect.
❖ No instruments are allowed.
❖ Usage of background music and karaoke is prohibited.
THEATRE
EKANKA NAADAKAM
❖ The duration of the play should not exceed 30 minutes.
❖ For stage setting and removal of properties up to ten minutes will be given.
❖ The number of participants should not exceed nine and that of accompanists is five.
❖ External help for light and background music may be sought.
❖ The medium of the drama can be Malayalam or English.
❖ Judgement will be based on the qualities of the play like theme, work on acting,
stagecraft, total design, general impression etc.
❖ The zone should give four copies of the script along with the language of presentation
on the day of the event.
MONO ACT (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants.
❖ No accompanist allowed.
❖ Judgement will be based on qualities like ability to act, clarity of language, literary
expression, originality, humour, general impression etc.
❖ Time allotted for performance is 5 minutes.
STAND-UP COMEDY
❖ This is an individual event.
❖ Performance duration: 4-5 minutes.
❖ Performances can include humorous and satiric elements.
❖ Judging criteria: a) Comic timing. b) Originality and naturality c) Overall
presentation.
❖ The medium of language is Malayalam.
❖ Performances must maintain cultural and artistic decency.
❖ Vulgarity or offensive content is prohibited.
❖ The judge’s decision will be final.
MIMICRY (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants
❖ Participants may mimic the sound of machines and speeches of well-known persons
including film personalities.
❖ Judgement will be based on imitating skill, variety of voices and presentation.
❖ Each student artist shall be given a maximum time of 5 minutes.
MIME
❖ Maximum of six participants are allowed per team.
❖ Judgement will be based on the qualities like idea, creativity of presentation, use of
make-up, music and general impression.
❖ Duration of performance shall be a maximum of 5 minutes.
SKIT
❖ Maximum of six participants are allowed to participate in this item.
❖ Maximum number of accompanists shall not be more than three.
❖ Maximum time allotted for each team is 10 minutes.
❖ Use of make-up, drapery and background music is allowed. Personal remarks,
aspersions, character assassination etc. are not allowed.
❖ Participating teams should submit three copies of the synopsis of the theme of Skit,
along with language of presentation (Malayalam or English) on the day of the event.
❖ The item will be judged on the qualities like theme, work on acting, stagecraft, design
and general impression.
❖ Vulgarity or bitter insinuations in presentation should be avoided. Only innocent satire
or humour is expected.
KATHAPRASANGAM (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants
❖ Maximum number of accompanists shall not be more than 3. Students or
professionals are permitted.
❖ Performance minimum of 10 minutes and maximum of 20 minutes.
❖ Judgement will most likely be based on qualities like correctness of language,
pronunciation, expression, etc.
DANCE
MOHINIYATTAM
BHARATANATYAM (MALE AND FEMALE)
KUCHIPUDI (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competition will be there for Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, and Kuchipudi.
❖ Bharatanatyam & Kuchipudi will have separate competition for male and female.
❖ Maximum number of accompanists is three (external help can be sought).
❖ Judgement will be based on the qualities like Thala, Technique and Rhythm, Abhinaya
or expression, Costumes, Footwork and general Impression. These rules are
applicable for the above three events.
❖ Time allotted is not less than 7 minutes and not more than 15 minutes.
❖ Recorded song must be used.
FOLK DANCE SOLO (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants
❖ Maximum number of accompanists is three (external help can be sought).
❖ Only non-film songs are allowed.
❖ Maximum time allowed for performance is 10 minutes and stage setting is three
minutes.
❖ Judgement will be based on Rhythm, Expression, Costumes, Make-up, and Sets on
Overall Effect.
❖ Recorded Music must be used.
KATHAKALI (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants.
❖ Maximum time allowed for performance is 15 minutes.
❖ Judgement will be based on Rhythm, Expression, Gestures, Costumes, Body-
language, Confidence, and Make-up.
❖ Recorded Music must be used.
OTTAMTHULLAL (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants.
❖ Maximum time allowed for performance is 10 minutes.
❖ Judgement will be based on Rhythm, Expression, Gestures, Costumes, Body-
language, Confidence, and Make-up, Pronunciation.
❖ Live orchestra be used.
❖ The participants themselves should sing so that the judges can understand the musical
knowledge of the participant.
ADAPT TUNE
❖ The maximum time allowed per participant is three minutes.
❖ Three different tunes or songs will be given to the participant on the spot.
❖ The participant should have to dance according to the changes in tune.
❖ One song will last for one minute....
GROUP DANCE
❖ There is no restriction for seeking external help for the background music.
❖ The participating zone will be responsible for removal of the sets, properties etc.
immediately after the completion of the performance.
❖ The music should be taken from Indian songs. Any performance other than Indian
style is not allowed. Judgement based on rhythm, formation, expression, costumes,
makeup, coordination and overall effects.
❖ Maximum number of participants is 10 and not less than 4.
❖ Maximum time allotted for stage setting is 3 minutes and performance is 10 minutes.
VATTAPATTU
❖ External help (singing) is not allowed.
❖ Number of participants must be10.
❖ All participants should be male.
❖ Judgement based on rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, makeup, coordination
and overall effects.
❖ Maximum time allotted for stage setting is 3 minutes and performance is 10 minutes.
STEP IN SYNCHRO
❖ Maximum number of participants is 6.
❖ There will be a separating screen.
❖ Maximum time allotted is 10 minutes.
❖ Stage settings are not allowed.
❖ Judgment will be based on rhythm formation, expression, costumes and
synchronisation.
VANCHIPPAATTU
❖ Maximum number of participants is 10.
❖ Maximum time allotted is 10 minutes.
❖ Stage settings are not allowed.
❖ Judgment will be based on rhythm, makeup, costumes and overall effect.
❖ No instruments are allowed.
❖ Usage of background music and karaoke is prohibited
THIRUVATHIRAKKALI
❖ Maximum number of participants is 10.
❖ Maximum number of accompanists is 3.
❖ Recorded Music cannot be used.
❖ Other rules are the same as that of group dance.
OPPANA (FEMALE)
❖ Maximum number of participants is 10 including accompanists (students).
❖ There is no restriction in seeking external help for background music but the teams
not using background score will be given additional marks at the decision of the
judges.
❖ The participating zone will be responsible for removal of the sets, properties etc.
immediately after the completion of the performance.
❖ Judgement based on rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, makeup, coordination
and overall effects.

❖ Maximum 8 dancers and 2 singers
❖ Duration of the dance should not be more than 10 minutes.
❖ Judgment will be based on the basis of rhythm, formation, expression, costumes,
make- up, sets, and over-all effect.
KERALA NADANAM (MALE AND FEMALE)
❖ Separate competitions will be there for male and female participants.
❖ Maximum time is 15 minutes.
❖ Judgment will be based on the basis of rhythm, formation, gestures, expression,
costumes, make-up, sets, and over-all effect.
KERALA NADANAM (GROUP)
❖ Maximum number of participants are 10
❖ Maximum time is 30 minutes.
❖ Judgment will be based on the basis of rhythm, formation, gestures, expression,
costumes, make- up, sets, and over-all effect.
DUFFMUTTU
❖ Maximum number of participants allowed is 10.
❖ All participants should be male.
❖ Duration of the event should not be more than 10 minutes.
❖ Among baithahmmed, ottamuttu, moonnumuttu, anchumuttu, kaimuttu, korimuttu,
any 4 ryhthms should be there.
❖ Judgment will be based on the basis of the ‘baith’, rhythm, percussion and over-all
effect.
KOLKALI
❖ Maximum number of participants will be 12 and not less than 8.
❖ All participants should be male.
❖ Duration of the event should not be more than 10 minutes.
❖ The event will be in a traditional mode
❖ Judgement based on originality of song rhythm, formation, expression, coordination
and overall effect.
VIDEO CHOREOGRAPHY
❖ There are restrictions for seeking external help.
❖ The participating zone will be responsible for the removal of their sets, properties etc.
immediately after the completion of performance
❖ Judgement based on rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, makeup, coordination
and overall effects The performance should be theme-based.

❖ Songs used should be from films released before 2000's and the original songs should
be used for the performance.
