Foreword
Nutrition and feeding play a key role in maximizing the productive performance of the
animals in terms of economic efficiency. They also have major implications for the environment,
animal welfare and maintaining the security of animal products.
In recent years the position of animals has changed to the feeds they consume, especially in
terms of improving animal breeds and plant varieties. This has led to changes in the requirements
of the animals, as well as the nutritional value of the feeds or foods. This is why it called for an
update of these parameters.
In this paper are presented the updated tables and annexes concerning the nutritional value of
feeds differentiated species or groups of species, and the requirements of animals, presented for
each category of animal.
The main sources of inspiration are submitted as follows:
* Tables of composition and nutritional value of raw materials for farmed animals. INRA Ed.,
Paris, 2004;
* Nutrient requirements of dogs and cats. NRC Ed., USA, 2006;
* Feeding cattle, sheep and goats. INRA Ed., Paris, 2007;
* Animal nutrition. 7th edition, Longman Ed., England, 2011.
* Horses nutrition and feeding. Martin-Rosset coord., INRA, France, 2012.
With the material presented can be formulated rations for livestock species and categories
mentioned.
This work constitutes the support for the practical work carried out by students of the Faculty
of Veterinary Medicine Bucharest, the discipline of Animal and Agronomy.
