About the Institute
Anugrah Narayan Sinha Institute of Social Studies has been established by the Government of Bihar
in January 1958 and made a Statutory Autonomous Body through legislation of Bihar Gazette on October 8,
1964. The Institute is governed by Board of Control and funded by Department of Education, Government of
Bihar and Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) through Ministry of Education, Government
of India. The research theme of the institute broadly focuses on development and change, with special
reference to Bihar and Eastern region with multi-disciplinary approach. The institute offers courses of
Doctorate and Post-Doctorate of Philosophy in major streams of Social Sciences. The Institute has expertise
and organized professionally managed National and State level Seminars and Conferences with multifaceted
dedicated team.

Submission of Research Paper


Experts, academicians, research scholars, post graduate students, civil society organizations,
government officials, legal professionals and concerned citizens are invited to contribute their research
papers on any of the proposed themes. You are requested to confirm your participation by submitting
abstract of 250 words by 10th March and full paper by 20th March, along with registration fee. The
contributions may submit their paper either in English or in Hindi. The paper and registration fee receipt

Concept Note

In the New Millennium; Indian social system is undergoing rapid change due to modernisation,
technological advancement, I-T revolution, improvement in medical health care, government policies and
programmes; for overall development of Indian society. These changes impacted traditional social formation
and thrown challenges to elderly people. Due to mass immunisation and medical facilities; absolute number
of elderly over 60 years is increasing very fast. Around 60 percent of world elderly persons live in Asia,
which is expected to be 75 percent by 2025. According to Report of Technical Group on Population
Projections (2011-2036); population of elderly persons in India in 2021 has been 137.5 million, expected to
be 193.4 million by 2031. In 2036, population of elderly is projected to be 227 million, shall constitute 14.9
percent of total Indian population. Growing numbers of old people with increasing life expectancy; elderly
persons are facing multifaceted problems- social, economic, health, psychological and physiological; posing
uncongenial situation for them. Declining family support system, economic insecurity, failing physiological
conditions, inadequate social security, social isolation, depression and anxiety, and its subsequent impact on
elderly population are pertinent issues to be deliberated and explored.
Aims and Objectives
The main objective of the seminar is to deliberate upon ensuing challenges of elderly people due to emerging
new socio-economic and psychological factors, and to explore short and long term informed policy measures
for dignified life of elderly population of our society.
Sub-themes
In the light of above emerging scenario and concerns; proposed seminar will focus on following sub-themes:
 Malnutrition, Role of Medical and Health Care.
 Psychological and Emotional Crisis
 Financial and Material Insecurity
 Neglect, Maltreatment and Role of Intergenerational Bonding.
 Social Media and Civil Society
 Social Security Policies and Programmes

Accommodation:
Modest accommodation will be provided only for outstation participants on twin-sharing basis on 26th and
27th March. No TA/DA will be paid. However; local hospitalities will be our privilege
