By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

LEARNING OUTLINE
1. Pre-lesson: Realia such as seashells, sand, teacup and other suitable objects. Get pupils to come up, touch, feel
and guess the object.
2. The word ‘magic’ is written on the board in a circle map. Pupils brainstorm words that remind them of the word.
3. Pupils read the poem ’Sounds Like Magic’.
4. Teacher ask questions to elicit pupils share their ideas of what they understand about the poem.
5. Teacher shows an example of a poem.
6. In groups, pupils discuss and decide what other sounds they can hear from the objects in the poem (seashell,
eggshell, hollow coconut, teacup).
7. Pupils then rewrite any one stanza of the poem, with the new sound that they hear.
8. Pre A1 pupils work in pairs. Pupil A picks one card and blends the word. Pupil B unfolds the card to show the
picture and to see whether the blended word is correct. Pupils swap roles and repeat the steps.
9. Low A1 pupils work in pairs. Pupil A rolls the dice and read the words that correspond to the number on the
dice. Pupil B listens to the words and corrects any error. Pupil B then rolls the dice and repeats the steps.
10. Pupils showcase their four-line poem for a gallery walk.

LEARNING OUTLINE
Pre-lesson: Ask pupils what subjects they are good at and what subjects they are bad at.
Lesson delivery:
1. Pupils are given a set of puzzles. Pupils match the pictures of the subjects to the words.
2. Pupils listen to a song (CD 1 Track 19) and are asked to guess what the song is about.
3. Each pupil in the group takes the piece of puzzle with subject pictures on it. Teacher plays the song and pupils
raise the pictures according to the lyrics.
4. Pupils complete the exercise in their workbook.
5. Pre A1 pupils work in pairs. Pupil A picks a card and sounds out the first sound of the word. Pupil B then picks a
card and sounds out the first sound of the word. The steps are repeated till all cards are used.
6. Low A1 pupils work in pairs. Pupil A picks a card and then a number. Based on the number, Pupil A sounds out
the sound of the corresponding letter (for example, if the card shows a bag and the student picked number 2, the
student sounds out the middle sound 'a'). Pupil B then picks a card and number and repeats as above.
Post-lesson: Pupils sing the song and share why they like and don’t like certain subjects in a think-pair-share
session with their group members.

LEARNING OUTLINE
Pre-lesson: Pupils refer to their timetable for the day and share on what subject they are looking forward to for the
day and the reason.
Lesson delivery:
1. Pupils copy the table from Activity 3, textbook page 15. Sentence patterns that are going to be used are
explained.

Student B: Science
2. Pupils are introduced to ways of displaying in graphs. Teacher shows an example.
3. Pupils go around the class practicing the sentence patterns while filling in the table in the exercise books.
4. Pupils sit together with their group members and come out with a graph related to their findings.
5. Pre A1 pupils work in pairs. Pupil A asks a question based on an empty box to find the missing information
(for example: What does Ahmad do on Monday mornings?). Pupil B answers based on their picture (for example:
On Monday morning, Ahmad plays football). Pupils take turns to ask and answer questions to complete the gaps
on their worksheets.
6. LowA1 pupils work in grous. Pupils A asks a group member for the items that they need (for example: Have you
got any rulers?) If that group member answers 'Yes, I have', then pupil A can cross that item off their 'You Want'
list.Pupils take turns and repeat Steps 3 - 5. The first pupil to cross all items off is the winner.
Post-lesson: Pupils display their graphs on the wall.
