History:
Medical education department was established in S.V.Medical college, Tirupati in the year 1976 as
separate unit identifying the need of faculty development programmes that are essential in improving the
standards of teaching. Later MCI laid clear instructions in the year 1999 to have separate Medical Education
unit for all colleges for implementation of new curriculum. Accordingly the department has been improved
under the great leaderships of pioneers of medical education of S.V.Medical College Dr.Raghava Prasad,
Professor Dept. of community Medicine, Dr.Sastri, Dr.Gururaj kumar, Professor Dept.of Microbiology,
Dr.Kailashnath Reddy, Professor Dept. of Microbilogy, Dr.Subhadra Devi, Professor Dept. of Anatomy,
Dr.B.Srihari Rao, Professor Dept. of General Surgery, Dr.P.A.Chandra Sekharan Present Principal,
S.V.Medical College, Dr.G.Sreenivas Professor, Dept. of ENT, followed by the present Co-ordinator
Dr.A.S.Kireeti, Professor Dept. of Paediatrics.
The Department flourished by conducting various faculty development programmes, International,
National and state conferences under the leader ship of former principals Dr.M.S.Sreedhar Professor Dept.
of General Medicine, Dr.Jaya Bhaskar Professor Dept. of Genereal Medicine.
The Medical Education Department works under the Nodal centre Christian Medical College (CMC),
Vellore. Apart from being an arm of the MCI’s National Faculty Development initiative, the department is
also involved in various institutional faculty development programs, curriculum renewal process and in
steering research work.
Other roles of the department are to provide:
• Assistance to all staff, as they require it
• Technical advice
• Links between departments and higher management
• Quality assurance and monitoring
• Expertise in areas such as assessment
• Development of a research, evaluation and quality assurance agenda that relates to the needs of
the curriculum renewal process and to curriculum outcomes such as fitness for practice and career
choice.
