This Installation/Instruction Manual contains operating instructions for the “Template Editing Tool”
dedicated for the Fujifilm Digital Minilab FRONTIER 500.
• To ensure proper use and optimum performance of the software, read this manual thoroughly.
• This manual should be kept in a fixed place near the machine so that it can be referred to at any
time a point needs to be clarified.
• The enclosed “END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT” should be read carefully before you use this
software.
• In this “Template Editing Tool”, the template for mounted print (except a calendar) with Variety
Print Software [S3] in use can be created.
• Template Editing Tool is available when the software is installed into the DIGITAL IMAGING
CONTROLLER II (hereafter DIC II) or an other personal computer. Before installing or when
using this software on the DIC II, quit the DIC II Basic Software [S2].

1 Installation
Install it on the DIC II or your personal computer. When installing Template Editing Tool software
into the DIC II, quit the DIC II Basic Software [S2] by using “Post-operational checks.”
System Requirements: Windows XP machine with a CPU more than 512MHz and HD capacity
greater than 100MB
Select [Start]-[Run].
Select [Setup].

2 Basic Operation
The chapter explains how to create a template using the [template edit tool] installed on your
personal computer.
Select [Start]-[Programs]-[FDi]-
[Template Editing Tool]-[Template Editing Tool].
Double-click.

Special care must be taken when using any
copyright -protected product (such as certain
image data or pictures) .

3 In the menu bar, select [File] - [New].
IMPORTANT
A template which mount the same picture in a
number of sizes of frame like the package print
needs to mount the same picture with a number
of frames.
IMPORTANT
In Package print, you can place up to 32 frames
to be mounted on the template when they are of
the same size.
IMPORTANT
Blank characters(spaces) cannot be entered
between the characters.

If you click [...] button in [Template Group] field, the
following dialog box is displayed. You can add or delete
the template in it.

later referred as the print size.

2.2 Creating of Templates
Create a template. The following is an example of creating a simple custom template. If you use the
functions such as mask insertion or gradation effects, see “3 Applied Operations”.
Picture Area
( [PICT] frame : edit with [PICT] button) Title Area

This is the frame for mounting the image,
which is for setting the logo and the template.
IMPORTANT
The [PICT] will be mounted in Variety Print[S3]
in FRONTIER 500 by using the same aspect

■ Information regarding Base Area
The area within the bold gray line is the one that is
not eclipsed(masked) when printing the no-border
picture. The outside of the bold line indicates the
printing size.

Create an original image file using the image
processing software such as Photoshop.

When [View] - [1000%] is selected.
To align the areas exactly, a 1000% enlargement
is required.
Two lines appear as a dotted line. The illustration at the left indicates that the
upper, left-hand and right-hand frames are
exactly aligned( frame and frame ). If
the two frame lines are correctly
overlapped, they appear as a dotted line.

Register the created template into the FRONTIER 500 in the menu [Setup and Maintenance] after
saving it in a FD or CD-R.

3 Applied Operations
A picture area with a loaded image can be edited by using any of the following mask image.
The following 9 mask images are available for the Template Editing Tool.

To create an original mask, use the following procedure. The following is the procedure of
using the Photoshop.

3.2 Editing of Background Color
The background color of the mount can be set up. You can change the color of the background and
also add the gradation effect to it.

3.3 Area Layout
By using these buttons, a selected image can be switched to the upper or lower position. In that
case, although the PICT name changes, the frame number and screen state do not state do not
change.
NOTE: Before changing the order or overlapping, make sure that the picture area number is contin-
uous.

3.3.2 Aligning of Area
To align the frames, more than two frames must be selected beforehand.

3.5 Reference Materials for Operations
The following is the reference table for the print name, print size, base size and number of pixels.
You can refer it when creating the image that to be used as image area, or when taking a picture by
the digital camera.
The base sizes are shown with pixels, that have a margin larger than the print sizes shown below.

3.5.2 Types of Sample Templates
Several sample templates are provided with the Template Editing Tool. You can create the original
template by editing them freely. The following five types of sample templates are provided.

3.6 Using the HELP Screen
The Template Editing Tool provides the on-line HELP Screen. When an operation is unknown during
opening the screen, you can refer to it by simply clicking.

4 Customizing
4.1 File
Set up the operations for creating a new template, opening the existing file, or saving it.

1 Default Resolution Resolution value that is used when opening the template whose resolution is not
defined yet.
It is set as 300dpi, so to prevent print failure, please do not change it.
2 Unit for base size Unit that is used in the [Header/Base Edit] window. It will be used for size or margin
settings.
3 Eclipse Adjustment Settings for enlargement to allow for eclipsing.
When [The base size will be enlarged during loading or creating.] is checked, the area
for eclipsing will be added to the editing area during loading or creating the template.
This function is only available when using 300dpi of resolution.
When [The size of the title area around the base will be adjusted during loading.] is
checked, the title area is adjusted so as not to come too close to the periphery. The
default of peripheral area is 16 pixels from a edge of a base.
4 Overlapping Order When [When saving etc., priority is given to the frame number.] is checked, in order to

the latter is checked [✔] when saving, the [Thumbnail Check] window will no longer be
displayed from the next time. If the check [✔] is removed, the window will be displayed.
When you edit another template, this switch is automatically turned OFF.
When [Update all templates without check.] is checked [✔], the [Thumbnail Check] win-
dow is not displayed and the thumbnail is certain to be updated.

a value from 4.0 to 72.0.
When the [OK] button is clicked, the sizes are automatically sorted in ascending order.
The next time you open the Customize window, it will be displayed in this order.

4.4 Test Image
Set up the path name to the folder in which the test images are stored.
Set up the path name for the test image that to be displayed in the [PICT] area when you select
[View] - [Image Display].
Enter the path name directly in the entry box or click the [...] button in the right-hand corner of the
entry box, and then select the path.
If the [OK] button is clicked, the system checks if the file can be accessed or not.
The registered images from upper to lower correspond to each number of the picture areas. If there
are more picture areas than the images, recycling is done from the first image (the upper one)
again.
This image is not added to the template composition information file, but it is only pasted for test display.

4.5 Test Text
Set up the path name for the test text that to be displayed in the [TITLE] area when you select [View]
- [Test View].
If the text includes the [\], it begins on a new line after the [\]. The registered texts from upper to
lower correspond to each number of the title areas. If there are more title areas than texts, recycling
is done from the first text (the upper one) again.
This text is not added to the template composition information file, but it is only pasted for test display.
