INTRODUCTION

This Installation/Instruction Manual contains operating instructions for the “Template Editing Tool”
dedicated for the Fujifilm Digital Minilab FRONTIER 500.

• To ensure proper use and optimum performance of the software, read this manual thoroughly.

• This manual should be kept in a fixed place near the machine so that it can be referred to at any
time a point needs to be clarified.

• The enclosed “END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT” should be read carefully before you use this
software.

• To use this software, Photoshop Ver.7.0 or later is required.

• In this “Template Editing Tool”, the template for mounted print (except a calendar) with Variety
Print Software [S3] in use can be created.

• Template Editing Tool is available when the software is installed into the DIGITAL IMAGING
CONTROLLER II (hereafter DIC II) or an other personal computer. Before installing or when
using this software on the DIC II, quit the DIC II Basic Software [S2].

1 Installation

Install the Template Editing Tool.

Install it on the DIC II or your personal computer. When installing Template Editing Tool software
into the DIC II, quit the DIC II Basic Software [S2] by using “Post-operational checks.”

System Requirements: Windows XP machine with a CPU more than 512MHz and HD capacity
greater than 100MB

1 Set the Template Editing Tool installer CD in the


CD drive.

2 On the Desktop, select [Start] - [Run].

Select [Start]-[Run].

Select [Setup].

3 In the “Run” screen, click the [Browse] button to


open the [Template Editing Tool] folder in the
CD drive, and then select [Setup]. Then, click
the [Open] button.

Click the [Open] button.

Check that [E:\Template Editing Tool\Setup.exe]


is displayed.

4 In the “Run” screen, check that [E:\Template


Editing Tool\Setup.exe] is displayed in the
[Open] box, and then click the [OK] button.

The drive letter (ex: E:) varies depending on your PC.

Click.

5 “Preparing installer...” message appears.

6 After a few seconds, the installer main screen


appears.

7 In the installer main screen, click the [Install]


button, and then click the [OK] button.

If the [Cancel] button is clicked in the installer


main screen, the confirmation screen appears.
To cancel the installation, click the [OK] button.

Click the [Install] button. Click.

To cancel the installation,


click the [OK] button.

8 The installation confirmation screen appears.
Click the [OK] button.

Click the [OK] button.

9 Installation starts.

10 The installation completion screen appears.


Remove the Template Editing Tool installer CD
from the CD drive.
Click the [OK] button.

2 Basic Operation
The chapter explains how to create a template using the [template edit tool] installed on your
personal computer.

2.1 Base Editing

1 In the Desktop screen, select [Start] -


[Programs] - [FDi] - [Template Editing Tool] -
[Template Editing Tool].

Select [Start]-[Programs]-[FDi]-
[Template Editing Tool]-[Template Editing Tool].

You can also start up the program by double-clicking the


shortcut icon previously set in the Desktop screen.

Double-click.

2 The Template Editing Tool main screen appears.

IMPORTANT
Special care must be taken when using any
copyright -protected product (such as certain
image data or pictures) .

3 In the menu bar, select [File] - [New].

Select [File] - [New].

4 In the “Header/Base Edit” screen, select one of


the template groups to be edited in the
[Template Group].

IMPORTANT
A template which mount the same picture in a
number of sizes of frame like the package print
needs to mount the same picture with a number
of frames.
IMPORTANT
In Package print, you can place up to 32 frames
to be mounted on the template when they are of
the same size.

The [Template Group] is the group name that is to be

If you select [Custom], you can make an original
template with a name of your choosing.
Enter the [Template Name].

5 Enter any name in the [Template Name].

The template name must be one that the operator will


be able to recognize when he/she uses it.

The file name must be within 30 characters and it is


recommended to be a name that will be easy to
manage later.

IMPORTANT
Blank characters(spaces) cannot be entered
between the characters.

If you click [...] button in [Template Group] field, the
following dialog box is displayed. You can add or delete
the template in it.

Enter the [Template No.].


6 Enter the [Template No.].

The template number must be one that the operator will


be able to recognize when he/she uses it.

The file name must be within 20 characters and it is


recommended to be a name that will be easy to
manage later.

IMPORTANT
Blank characters(spaces) cannot be entered
between the numbers.

7 Select any size in the [Paper Size Name] that is
later referred as the print size.

Select the [Paper Size Name].

You can select the width and height freely by selecting


[Free] for [Paper Size Name]. When selecting [Free],
note that the width and height limitations vary
depending on your printer.

When selecting [Free], you can select


the width and height freely.

8 Select the orientation of the base to be made
by adding a checkmark [✔] to the [Portrait] or
[Landscape] radio button.

Select the orientation.

In the [Base Edit Value], the size that is larger than the
actual for eclipse occurrence is displayed.

9 In case of a bordered print with some space left
within the base, set the margins for each side.

If necessary, set the margins.

10 Upon completion of settings, click the [OK]


button.

2.2 Creating of Templates
Create a template. The following is an example of creating a simple custom template. If you use the
functions such as mask insertion or gradation effects, see “3 Applied Operations”.

Picture Area
( [PICT] frame : edit with [PICT] button) Title Area
This is the frame for mounting the user's picture. ( [TITLE] frame : edit with [TITLE] button)

( [IMG] frame : edit with [IMG] button)
This is the frame for mounting the image,
which is for setting the logo and the template.

The following procedures for creating a template mainly


use the one-touch button operations.

1 Display the image, picture or title areas by


clicking the [IMG], [PICT] or [TITLE] button.

IMPORTANT
The [PICT] will be mounted in Variety Print[S3]
in FRONTIER 500 by using the same aspect

have to crop the image to fit the frame size

■ Information regarding Base Area

The white area in the screen is the base


area. It is recommended that you create the
template using the whole screen.

The area within the bold gray line is the one that is
not eclipsed(masked) when printing the no-border
picture. The outside of the bold line indicates the
printing size.

You can set the margins properly by referring to


the solid line, so that the margins are always
located outside the solid line, when you set the
Base Margin
margin values from the sides.

2 First, let’s insert the image in the Image Area.


Click the [IMG] button on the tool bar to select
the image file in the default folder
[C:\TplEdit\_Library\Image].

This is the image, which is the mount as an actual


template.You cannot change the size of the image file. It
must be created in the image processing software
beforehand.
Select the image.
An image sample file is prepared in the software, but
normally create a new image file for the template before
calling it from the [IMG] or by the image area call
command.

It is the condition, which is opened two original


images in the image area.

Create an original image file using the image
processing software such as Photoshop.

For the pixel size for the image to be created, see


“3.5.1 Print Size/Base Size/Pixel Reference Table”.

3 Next, set the area frame in the picture area that


user image inserts.
Click the [PICT] button on the tool bar, to display
the picture area on the base.

Click the [PICT] buttons.

4 Adjust the size of the picture area, and then


position this area in the desired place. (You can
also set the detailed settings such as mask
choice or picture property settings by double-
clicking the area directly when it is selected.)

Adjust the size of area.

FRONTIER and Image Controller treats up to 4.

5 Click the [TITLE] button on the tool bar, to


display the title area on the base.
(Double-click the area directly when it is
selected, to make detailed settings. Here you
can also change the font size and check the
available number of characters.)

The title text can be entered by selecting [Customize] -


[Test Text].

Up to 4 titles can be input in the title area with


FRONTIER 500.

Align the areas roughly.

6 Align the frame of the picture area with that of


the image area using the mouse. In this step,
align them only roughly.

Order of pile for loaded [PICT] frame, [IMG]frame and


[TITLE] frame automatically becomes [IMG](lowest)
|[PICT] |[TITLE].In the back frame is hidden by the
front frame, loaded image/in order not hidden the image
by front frame, configuration is necessary for avoiding
overlapping the frame.

■ Area Frame Alignment

If the areas are not adjusted correctly, the


misalignment of the areas can be seen when
printing.

Position the picture area and image area


completely over the base (white area).

Create the title area so that it falls within the gray


line.

When [View] - [500%] is selected.


(1)Alignment Check by Enlargement

• Select [View] - [500%].

First, the position adjustment is done roughly with the


image enlarged 500%. Then it is set accurately by
using an enlargement of 1000%.

• Select [View] - [1000%].
When [View] - [1000%] is selected.
To align the areas exactly, a 1000% enlargement
is required.

Two lines appear as a dotted line. The illustration at the left indicates that the
upper, left-hand and right-hand frames are
exactly aligned( frame and frame ). If
the two frame lines are correctly
overlapped, they appear as a dotted line.

If the image area exceeds the base area, it can


still be fit within the base by selecting [View] - [Fit].

(2)Area Adjustment by Arrow Keys

Adjust the area by steps of 1 pixel each,


using the arrow keys. Select the area frame
to be used and then click one of the arrow
buttons.

By selecting [View] - [Fit], the base can be


adjusted to fit in the screen.

• The frame of the shifted area becomes a
dotted line consisting of red and blue dots.

Overlap two lines.

Two lines become a dotted lines.

Instead of the arrow buttons, you can also use the


arrow keys in the keyboard to move the area when
the mouse cursor is the cross.

Cursor becomes [ ] mark.


To fine-adjust one side of a frame, align the
mouse cursor with the rectangular mark in the
center of the side. When the cursor becomes the
[ ] mark, use the arrow keys of the keyboard to
change the size of the frame.

Click the [Test View] button.


7 In order to check the positioned "PICT" frame,
the "IMG" frame, the "TITLE" frame, etc. with
the picture (test picture) prepared beforehand,
click the [Test View] button.

Check the position.
• [IMG] frame:
The picture which was set up as the [IMG] frame
• The picture of the [PICT] frame:
The test picture that was prepared beforehand. In
practice, set the user’s image with Variety Print
Software.
• The wording of the [PICT] frame:
The text for the test that was prepared
beforehand. In practice, set the title using the
Variety Print Software.

Test images disappear.


9 When the position is good, click the [Test View]
button again to make the image disappear, and
save the data. When changing a position, re-
edit after canceling test composition, and then
check Procedures 7 and 8.

Select [File] - [Save As].


10 Let's save the created template.
Select [File] - [Save As].

Enter a file name.

11 When the “Save/Save As” screen appears,


enter a file name and path in the [Destination
Parent] box, and then click the [OK] button.

If you save the template in other media, click the [...]


button in the right-hand side of [Destination Parent], and
then select the drive.

Click.

When registering the created template in the


FRONTIER 500, it is convenient to save it in a FD.
When saving in a CD-R, after saving it in the optional
folder temporally, write it into a separated CD-R .

12 In the confirmation screen, click the [OK] button.

Click.

13 To close the program, select [File] - [Exit].

Select [File] - [Exit].

2.3 Registration into FRONTIER 500

Register the created template into the FRONTIER 500 in the menu [Setup and Maintenance] after
saving it in a FD or CD-R.

1 Insert the FD including the created template


into the FD drive of the FRONTIER 500.
(In case of a CD-R, use the CD drive.)

Select [Setup and Maintenance].

2 In the “Main Menu” screen, select [Setup and


Maintenance].

Enter ‘0000’.
3 In the “Login” screen, enter ‘0000’ in the
[Password] field, and then click the [OK] button.
(for Laboratory Manager log-in)

Click.

4 In the “Setup and Maintenance” screen, select
[(10) Register/Delete] - [(1021) Template Regist/
Delete].

Click.

5 The “Template Regist/Delete [1021]” screen


appears.

Click.

6 In the “Template Regist/Delete [1021]” screen,


select [Regist] as [Function Select].

Select [A:] for [Source].
7 The drive which corresponds with the FD at
[Source] is selected (Here,[A:]).
(In case of a CD-R, select [N:].)

8 Select the created template, and then click the


[OK] button.

Click.

9 Remove the FD from the FD drive.


(In case of a CD-R, remove it from the CD
drive.)

When using the registered template, first select the print


size and then check it, so that you can easily display
and use it. After that, do the same procedures as for
Mounted Print.

3 Applied Operations

3.1 Inserting of Mask into Picture Area

3.1.1 Optional Mask Images

A picture area with a loaded image can be edited by using any of the following mask image.
The following 9 mask images are available for the Template Editing Tool.

The above 9 mask images are stored in the folder [C:\TplEdit\_Library\Mask].

3.1.2 Procedures for Inserting Mask

1 To display the [Picture Area Properties] screen,


select [View] - [Properties Display] or double-
click the picture area itself.

Select [View] - [Properties Display].

2 In the “Picture Area Properties” screen, click the


[...] button to select any of the mask images.

You can also select the mask image by entering the


path name for the image directly in the [Mask Image
File] box.

Click.

Select one of the mask images.


3 In the “Open” screen, select a mask image, and
then click the [Open] button.

Click.

4 In the “Picture Area Properties” screen, click the
[Close] button.

If you click the [Fit] button in the “Picture Area


Properties” screen, the magnification ratio of the mask
is fixed to 100% in proportion to the picture area.

Select [View] - [Mask Display].

5 Select [View] - [Mask Display] in the tool bar.

The selected mask appears.

6 The selected mask appears in the picture area.

■Mask Creation

To create an original mask, use the following procedure. The following is the procedure of
using the Photoshop.

Create a 512 × 512 pixel file.


(1)Select [File] - [New], and then create a
512 X 512 pixel file, and then click the
[OK] button.

IMPORTANT
Make sure to select [Gray Scale] as Mode.

Create the desired mask shape.


(2)Select the tool in the tool box, and then
create the desired mask shape.

(3)A boundary line is scumbled in order to


make the surroundings of a mask
conform with the image.
Select [Select] - [Feather], and then set
Set up the feather value (ex:10). up the proper value for feather (Ex: 10),
and then click the [OK] button.

If you do not add the feather effect, select [0].

(4)Black out the part where the image is
inserted, specified the place.
Select [Edit] - [Fill], and then select
[100%] for [Opacity], then click the [OK]
button.

Select [100%] for [Opacity].

(5)Select [File] - [Save As] to save the file


with the [PNG] format in the
[C:\TplEdit\_Library\Mask].

In the “PNG Options” screen, select [NO] for


[Interlace] and then click the [OK] button.

Save the mask file with PNG format.

3.2 Editing of Background Color

The background color of the mount can be set up. You can change the color of the background and
also add the gradation effect to it.

Select [File] - [Background Edit].

1 Select [File] - [Background Edit].

Click.
2 In the “Background Edit” screen, click the white
button in the [Background Color] field to change
the background color.

Select the desired color.
3 In the “Color” screen, select the desired color,
and then click the [OK] button.

Click.

Add the check.

4 To select the gradation effect, check [✔] the


[Create, change or delete the gradation] box,
and then select the gradation pattern and start/
end color.

5 Click the [OK] button.

Click.

Background is set up.

6 The background is set up.

If you do not want to change the background image,


select [File] - [Background Protect] and then the
background is set and cannot be changed.

3.3 Area Layout

3.3.1 Use of Overlap Switching Buttons

By using these buttons, a selected image can be switched to the upper or lower position. In that
case, although the PICT name changes, the frame number and screen state do not state do not
change.

Click this to increase the number of [PICT].

Click this to decrease


the number of [PICT].

NOTE: Before changing the order or overlapping, make sure that the picture area number is contin-
uous.

A larger [PICT] number is usually on the smaller one.


The frame number in the [Picture Area Properties] screen is not changed after a change in the order of image overlap-
ping.

then click the [Behind] button.

3.3.2 Aligning of Area

To align the frames, more than two frames must be selected beforehand.

Decide the following conditions.

a. Range of aligning areas (Ex: Fit in base)


b. Type of area and numbers (Ex: 16 picture areas)
c. Area numbers in length and breadth (Ex: 4 × 4)

Display the areas.

1 Display the areas to be aligned on the base. In


this step, align them freely. (Ex: 16 picture areas
with the same size.)

NOTE: Alignment can only be done with areas


of the same size. If areas of different
sizes are mixed, arrange them into
group of areas having the same size,
and then align them.

Move [PICT 1] to upper left-hand corner.

2 Move one of the areas to one side of the base.


(Ex: [PICT1] toward the upper left-hand corner
of the base.)

3 Move one of the other areas (except the area
you moved in the Step 3) to the side diagonal to
that used in Step 3. (Ex: [PICT16] that is, toward
the lower right-hand corner of the base.)

Move [PICT 16] to lower right-hand corner.

4 Select all the areas to be aligned. (Enclose all


the areas or click the areas one by one while
pressing the [Shift] key.)

Select all areas.

Select [Layout] - [Alignment].


5 Select [Layout] - [Alignment].

3.3.3 Area Positioning

Areas can be positioned in the left-hand side, right-hand side, center or top, or bottom side. For
example, the following procrdures are used to position the three frames in the left-hand side.

Select picture frames.


1 Select picture frames (Ex: three picture frames).
While pressing the [Shift] key, click the frames
one by one.

Select [Layout] - [Left].

3.4 Editing of Existing Variety Templates

Create an original template using the templates provided with the Variety Print Software .

1 Set the Variety Template CD in the CD drive.

Select [File] - [open].

2 Select [File] - [Open].

3 Click the [...] button at the right-hand side of the


[Composition Info File] box.

Click.

4 In the “Open” window, select a desired template
in the CD drive (default is N drive)and then click
the [Open] button.

Click. Some templates cannot be edited (thumbnail of these


can be displayed) and the error message appears. In
this case, select another template that can be edited.

Click the template.

5 Check the template, and then click the [OK]


button.

6 Normally, select [Protect as background].

7 The selected template is displayed as the whole

Add the title areas.

8 Edit the template. (Ex: Add the [TITLE] area.)

9 Upon completion of editing, select [File] - [Save


As] to save it using the different file name.

10 Remove the Variety Template CD from the CD
drive.

FRONTIER 500, and then use it in the same
way as the newly created template.

3.5 Reference Materials for Operations

3.5.1 Print Size/Base Size/Pixel Reference Table

The following is the reference table for the print name, print size, base size and number of pixels.
You can refer it when creating the image that to be used as image area, or when taking a picture by
the digital camera.

3.5.2 Types of Sample Templates

Several sample templates are provided with the Template Editing Tool. You can create the original
template by editing them freely. The following five types of sample templates are provided.

4 Customizing

4.1 File

Set up the operations for creating a new template, opening the existing file, or saving it.

5.2.1 Uninstallation Using Installer CD

Delete the Template Editing Tool program from the DIC II or other personal computer using the
installer CD.Before deleting it from the DIC II, quit the DIC II Basic Software [S2] by using “Post-
operational checks.”

5.2.2 Uninstallation with Desktop Screen

Delete the Template Editing Tool program from the DIC II or other personal computer using the
[Start] menu in the Windows Desktop screen.Before deleting it from the DIC II, quit the DIC II Basic
Software [S2] by using “Post-operational checks.”

1 In the Desktop screen, select [Start] -


[Programs] - [FDi] - [Template Editing Tool] -
[Uninstall].

Select [Start] - [Programs] - [FDi] -


[Template Editing Tool] - [Uninstall].

2 “Preparing uninstaller...” message appears.

3 In the confirmation message screen, click the


[OK] button.

Click the [OK] button.

4 The program is uninstalled.

5 The uninstallation completion screen appears.


Click the [OK] button to restart the system.

Click the [OK] button.


To restart the system later, click the [Reboot Later]
button.

Click the [Reboot Later] button.
