What is Text Relevance?

Altogether, kindly read the slide on the screen.
(Students will read aloud the slide presented to

Text Relevance - refers to the match between a
Who want to share your insights? reader’s goal and information related to that
(Call out any volunteer.) goal.

Exactly!
Text relevance is about how well the (Students will volunteer and answer.)
information matches what the reader wants or
needs.
For example: If a reader wants to discover
more about solar system, they should read the
book about science.
E. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #2
Now, let us discuss the Determining the
Importance
Everyone, kindly read the definition (Students will read aloud the first bullet
presented to them.)
- Determining the Importance- is a
strategy that readers use to distinguish
between what information in a text is
most important versus what
information is interesting but not
necessary for understanding. This
practical reading strategy will help you
distinguish between the most and least
important information presented in
textbooks and nonfiction reading.
Headings, subheadings, chapter titles,
highlighted vocabulary all of these
features guide readers to find and
remember the most important
information. Graphic organizers help
students keep only the most important
Thank you! information.
Determining importance means figuring out
which parts of a text are the most important
and which are just extra details. This helps
readers understand textbooks and nonfiction
better.
Features like titles, headings, subheadings,
and bold or highlighted words help readers
recognize the main ideas. Using tools like
charts, notes, or graphic organizers can make
it easier to remember and organize important
information.
Determining importance is more than just
remembering the important details to
summarize the text. To understand the
concept of determining important details, we
need to determine other important pieces of
information such as: (The student will read)
 determine when and why a character
begins to change
 determine the importance of something
a character says or does
 determine the importance of a story’s
setting
 determine the significance of an event
in a story and how it will impact the
rest of the story
 determine the most important theme in
a story
 determine the most important lesson
learned in a story
 determine important vocabulary
introduced in a text

Determining importance is more than just

summarizing a text; it means understanding
key parts of the story. It also includes figuring
out the main message, the lesson the story
teaches, and important words that help explain
the story. These things help readers better
understand the story and its meaning.
That’s all, Is there any questions? None, Ma’am!
clarifications?
F. Developing mastery (Leads to
formative assessment)
G. Finding practical applications of
concepts and skills in daily living
(Students will showcase their understanding (Students are encouraged to actively participate in,
and appreciation of the lesson by writing an sharing their thoughts on how reading helps in
essay which composed in 3-5 sentences.) daily life and how they can become better readers.)
