QUESTION ONE (30 MARKS)

a) Differentiate between the following terms as used in information systems


i. Transaction processing system and Management Information system (1 marks)
ii. Decision tree and decision table.(1 marks)
iii. Data flow diagram and Entity Relationship Diagram. (2marks)
b) A system is a set of interacting components that work together to accomplish specific goals.
Outline three components of a system. (6 Marks)
c) Describe three roles a systems analyst plays during the process of developing systems.(6 marks )
d) Describe two activities carried out during the system implementation phase of the System
Development Life Cycle. (4 marks)
e) Describe two reasons that contribute to late completion and delivery of a project. (6marks)
f) Briefly describe two types of feasibility study. (4 Marks)

a) Explain two issues a system analyst must determine during the analysis phase of system
development.(5 marks)
b) Describe two importance of documentation in system analysis and design. (2 marks)
c) Explain TWO advantages and TWO disadvantages of the following fact finding methods

QUESTION THREE (15 marks)


a) System design is an important activity in the SDLC methodology. Discuss three factors that can
influence the design of a system (5 marks)
b) A trip to Dubai costs Kshs 100,000 if the ticket is business class, and kshs80,000 if it is economy.
However, if you stay in Dubai for more than two weeks, the economy fare only costs 65,000.
i. Draw a decision table which represents these conditions and outcomes. Make sure your
table is minimal with respect to the number of rows and columns used. ( 5 marks)
ii. Draw a Decision tree to represent the scenario above.(5 marks)
QUESTION FOUR (15 MARKS)
a) Differentiate between tangible and non-tangible benefits citing an example in each.(2 marks)
b) Describe three advantages of the waterfall model.(3 marks)
c) Explain three reasons why it’s important carry out structured walkthrough during system
development.(6 marks)
d) Discuss two reasons for carrying out a feasibility study.(4 marks)
