Migration helps to reduce the unemployment rate in the home country as individuals seek
job opportunities elsewhere.

Development Oppurtunities
Migration can provide opportunities for career advancement and skill enhancement, which
can be beneficial when the migrant returns home.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS
Disrupted Family Life
The absence of one or both parents can lead to incomplete families, changes in parenting,
and a search for role models for the children left behind. This can also lead to poor diets
and increased psychological problems among the children.
Reduced Incentives for Education
Migration may reduce incentives for education when perceived future returns to education
are low because of expectations of migration.

Migration can reduce labor force participation for family members left behind, especially
for women.
