What is a mall ?
A mall, short for "shopping mall," is a large, enclosed or partially enclosed commercial building or complex that houses a
variety of retail stores, shops, boutiques, and often other amenities such as restaurants, entertainment facilities, and
sometimes even offices. Malls are designed to provide a one-stop shopping and entertainment experience for
consumers, and they typically have a wide range of stores selling clothing, electronics, furniture, food, and many other
types of products. Malls also often feature common areas for socializing, food courts, and may host events or activities
to attract visitors.
What is a unity mall ?
Unity Mall will is a mall that will act as a one stop market place that would focus on the promotion and sale of the state’s
own ODOPs (one district, one product), GI products and other handicraft products, and for providing space for such
products of all other State. The Goverment of India has encouraged each state to set up a “Unity Mall” in their capitals,
in their most prominent tourism centres, or their financial capitals.
About the Project :
The Unity Mall (Ekta Mall) in Guwahati is to be built with the objective of promoting national and regional integrity
among the people by way of making available products from the state, region and other states.
It will be a marketplace for One District One Product (ODOP) products, handicrafts, and GI products, along with
other regional products.
The mall is also set to feature 35 shops for each state and UTs, 35 shops for Assam’s districts, shops for Indian
commercial brands, a food court, yoga and meditation area, an art gallery, dormitories, etc.
The mall will also help promote Make in India and local products among the local population as well as visitors, in
turn helping local artisans and producers, providing an avenue of employment and sales of their products, thus
increasing their income while ensuring the reach of their products to a wider clientele.
Aim the Project :
The aim of the project was to built a landmark structure to promote unity and cohesion within the nation and its
regions through the distribution of goods sourced from both the local area and other states.
To promote the vision of a self-sustaining nation with a mission to create local products and promote Indian Home
grown brands.
To promote the sense of Identity and self dependency of the different local ethnic groups, stakeholders and
communities involved.
Regional Development : This destination will act as catalysts for economic and social growth.
Human Resource Development : This directly contributes to the country's workforce and helps India compete in the
global economy fueling National and International Collaboration.

About the Site
The site is located in the District of Kamrup metro. It is located 12 km away from the state Capital, Dispur. The site has
direct road connectivity- Acessed by the 7m wide Betkuchi road which connects to the 50m wide NH 27.

Scope of the Project

What is to be proposed?
Site requirements :
Shopping Arcade for Indian homegrown brands.
Shops for showcasing and selling products of the 35 Districts of Assam.
Shops/ spaces for showcasing products from the 29 states and 9 Union territories of India.
Art gallery, showcasing the local, indigenous art, handicrafts and sculpture etc.
Yoga and meditation areas for rejuvenation and relaxation purposes
Food courts offering cuisines from all parts of India, including ethnic and traditional cuisine from the NE region.
Dormitories, Theatres, cycling and jogging tracks, etc.

What is a cultural centre ?
A cultural center, also known as a cultural centre, is a facility or institution dedicated to the promotion, preservation,
and celebration of various aspects of culture. These centers typically serve as hubs for a wide range of cultural
activities, including but not limited to Arts and Performing Arts, Heritage and History, Education, Cultural Exchange,
Community and Social Gatherings. Cultural centers can focus on a specific culture or be more diverse, embracing a
wide range of cultural expressions. They play a crucial role in preserving cultural heritage, promoting creativity, and
enriching the cultural life of a community or region.
About the Project :
History : Lachit Borphukan was a prominent Ahom general known for his remarkable leadership during the 17th
century in the Ahom Kingdom, which is present-day Assam in India. He played a pivotal role in defending the Ahom
Kingdom against the Mughal forces during the Ahom-Mughal conflicts, particularly in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671.
Lachit Borphukan's leadership and valor have made him a revered figure in Assamese history and folklore.
About : The project's primary goal is the conservation of General Lachit Borphukan's burial site, with subsequent plans
to transform it into an exquisite heritage destination that reflects the rich culture of the state. The project envisions the
establishment of a heritage museum and complex, where the history and legends surrounding Lachit Borphukan are
prominently displayed. It also involves safeguarding valuable artifacts from the Ahom dynasty and presenting them to
a global audience, with the dual purpose of boosting tourism and nurturing a stronger sense of cultural identity.

The aim of the project is to create a heritage museum complex dedicated to showcasing the history and legends
of Lachit Borphukan, along with the conservation and exhibition of Ahom dynasty artifacts. This, in turn, seeks to
enhance tourism and foster a stronger cultural identity among visitors.
Regional Development : This destination will act as catalysts for economic and social growth.
To promote the sense of pride and gratification of the different local ethnic groups, stakeholders and
communities involved and to fulfil their hopes and asiprations for their ethnic identity.

The site is located in the Jorhat district of Upper Assam. It is 15 km away from the Jorhat City Centre.. The site has direct
road connectivity- Acessed by the 5m wide Lachit Moidam road which connects to the 20 m wide Assam Trunk Road.

Scope of the Project
This project aims to implement the suggestions of the Lachit Barphukan Maidam Preservation Committee to
preserve the grave ( Moidam ) of the General, followed by developing it into a beautiful heritage destination of
the state.
Apart from the maidam itself, the project aims at the creation of a heritage museum to showcase all the history
and lore of Lachit Barphukan. Preservation of the artefacts belonging to the Ahom dynasty and showcasing
them to visitors from around the globe are also included.
This project will be created as a tourism destination for all researchers and enthusiasts by create a water body,
beautifying the entire area and expanding the roads leading to the destination.
In order to help researchers, a small residential quarter will also be created to accommodate 20-25 visitors.
A state-of-the-art auditorium with a capacity of five hundred people will also be created alongside the museum
project. This will be utilised for cultural and social purposes in the region.
