Job Title: IP Network Engineer – Mobile Carrier Network
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced IP Network Engineer to join our Mobile Carrier
Network team. This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the IP
backbone and core network infrastructure that supports mobile voice, data, and messaging
services across our carrier network. The ideal candidate will have advanced expertise in IP
networking, with deep knowledge of mobile carrier systems such as 4G/5G, MPLS, VPNs, QoS, and
IP routing protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
• IP Network Design & Implementation: Design, deploy, and optimize IP network
solutions for mobile core and access networks, ensuring scalability and high availability
to support mobile services (e.g., voice, data, SMS, MMS).
• Mobile Network Optimization: Perform network performance analysis and
troubleshooting for mobile core IP networks, optimizing latency, throughput, and
overall user experience.
• Routing & Switching: Implement and manage complex IP routing protocols (BGP, OSPF,
IS-IS) and switching architectures for mobile networks.
• MPLS & VPN Technologies: Configure and manage MPLS, L2VPN, L3VPN, and IP
backhaul technologies to ensure secure and efficient traffic delivery in the carrier
network.
• Quality of Service (QoS): Implement and manage QoS policies across the network to
ensure service-level agreements (SLAs) for mobile voice and data services.
• Capacity Planning & Traffic Engineering: Plan for network growth, optimizing capacity
across mobile IP backhaul and core, ensuring efficient traffic engineering and fault
tolerance.
• Troubleshooting & Fault Management: Lead efforts in diagnosing and resolving
network issues related to IP, MPLS, and mobile-specific protocols, ensuring minimal
downtime and maximum service continuity.
• Collaboration & Project Management: Work with cross-functional teams (operations,
vendors, and developers) to implement network upgrades, troubleshoot issues, and
ensure smooth integration of new services and technologies.
• Documentation & Reporting: Develop and maintain detailed network diagrams,
documentation, and reports regarding network configurations, incidents, and
performance metrics.
• Security & Compliance: Implement security best practices for mobile networks, ensuring
compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards, including user privacy and
data protection.
• Mentorship & Leadership: Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior
network engineers, guiding them in troubleshooting, configuration, and operational best
practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical
Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Experience:
o 4+ years of experience in IP network engineering, with a focus on mobile carrier
networks and mobile core technologies.
o Overview Knowledge of mobile networking protocols and architecture (e.g. S1, X2,
MME, SGW, PGW, VoLTE).
o Hands-on experience with IP routing (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS) and MPLS in large-scale carrier
networks.
o Strong expertise in IP backhaul, network traffic engineering, and quality of service
(QoS) for mobile services.
• Certifications:
o Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Huawei Certified ICT Professional
(HCIP) or higher (e.g., HCIE, CCIE) will be an added advantage.
• Technical Skills:
o Basic understanding of mobile networking principles (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G NR, etc.).
o Expertise in IP/MPLS design and troubleshooting in large-scale carrier environments.
o Experience with monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds,
NetFlow, SNMP).
o Knowledge of firewall and security protocols (e.g., IPsec, ACLs, VPNs).
o Knowledge on Automation using programming languages such as Python is an added
advantage
• Soft Skills:
o Strong problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
o Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to interact with
cross-functional teams and vendors.
o Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, high-availability environment.
o Leadership and mentoring abilities for a junior network team.
