CBSE/DIR(ACAD)/2021 October 27, 2021

Cir. No. Acad-107/2021

All Heads of Institutions affiliated to CBSE

Sub: First step towards representing India at the International Olympiads: Enrollment in
Indian Olympiad Qualifier (IOQ) Examinations-reg.

The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), a National Centre of the Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), is the nodal agency of the Government of India for
implementing the Olympiad programme in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology,
Astronomy and Junior Science. The national Olympiads culminate in participation of Indian
teams in the International Olympiads in different subjects.

The international Olympiad movement is aimed at bringing the most talented secondary and
higher secondary students of the world together in a friendly competition of the highest level.
The Olympiads are the meeting places of the brightest young minds of the world and provide a
stimulus for students to begin a career in science or mathematics. Much like the Olympics in
sports, the Olympiads are a celebration of the very best in school level science and
mathematics. Even beyond the scope of the examinations, Olympiad problems provide
intellectual stimulus and uncommon opportunities for teaching and learning of sciences.

The Olympiad programme is fully funded and recognised by the Government of India. There is
no financial burden on students apart from a nominal enrolment fee. In each subject, the
programme proceeds through several stages of selection and training conducted by HBCSE,
leading up to participation of the Indian team in the international event held at a foreign
location.

To participate, students need to register and enrol themselves for the first stage of selection,
the Indian Olympiad Qualifier (IOQ), in as many subjects as they are interested in, provided
that they meet the eligibility criteria. The IOQ examinations in different subjects will be held on
three Sundays in the month of January 2022. The registration process to appear for IOQ
will begin on September 25, 2021. For details on enrollment, eligibility criteria, fee, date
and time of examination, etc., please visit our website: https://olympiads.hbcse.tifr.res.in

It is therefore requested to encourage your students to participate in this prestigious and

unique competition as it opens gateways to the global competition held by various international
Olympiad bodies.

Your cooperation in this national endeavour will be highly appreciated.
