Year 8: Natural forms recapping and

extended learning – Georgia O’Keeffe and


Henri Rousseau.
Can we recall prior knowledge and use artist research
to build upon our skills and understanding of organic
art.

extension tasks if you can. As always, take your time and give 100% effort.

Key vocabulary and concepts
Natural forms A natural form is an original
object found in nature.
Made or caused by human beings eg cars
Manmade or technology.
Relating to or coming from living things,
for example a carrot is organic because
Organic it has been grown in soil without the use
of chemicals.
The feel, appearance, or consistency of a
Texture surface. For example the texture of
paint will be different to the texture of
a table.
Composition is the placement or
Composition arrangement of work. For example how
you display your work in your sketch
book. The term ‘composition’ means
‘putting together’ and can apply to any
art work
Sketching is drawing lightly, making a
Sketching rough sketch refers to light pencil lines
mapping out your work.
Shading is adding darker areas to your
Shading drawing using a pencil, this is done by
adding pressure to create a darker line.
Perform a series of mechanical or
chemical operations. For example a pencil
processed began as wood, and went through a
process making it now a manmade object.
A gradient is often seen in drawing, it is
Gradient where shading gradually gets either
lighter or darker. Highlights - shadows.
The presence of opposites, for example
Contrast in a drawing that has both highlights and

Stretch and challenge – you need to now tonal shading to your work, be brave and
add some dark tones for a realistic outcome. Remember you can add highlights to
your drawing using a rubber.

Task two- once you have read the information thoroughly you need to make your own
creative fact file about Georgia O’Keeffe. Include a sketch one of her paintings, your
fact file must be balanced and contain unity within the drawings.

Stretch and challenge – you need to research two additional facts about Georgia
O’Keefe that ARE NOT already in the writing above. You must also ensure your
fact file is decorated with designs and colours that fit her work.

Lesson 3 -Henri Rousseau


Do Now - Look at the work of Henri Rousseau below, then circle the sentence that

Task two: Below you can see a fact file along with some images of the work of
Reasseau. Using the resources provided and your research you now need to transfer
this research into a creative mindmap. I have left space below for you to create your
mindmap.

Stretch and challenge – put each word into a sentence to demonstrate accurate

LO: Demonstrate accurate sketching and drawing skills following artists themes and
references, clear evidence of recalling key concepts and ideas regarding Henri
Rousseau.

Task one: on the left of the page you can see three images of leaves, using your pencil
in the empty box next to they make a copy of what you can see. Use this gradient to
check you’ve used a range of tones whilst shading textures and shadows.

Timing: Spend 5-10 minutes on each one

Task two: You now need to create your own jungle themed landscape/ scene. You may
choose to copy areas of Rousseau’s work onto your own to start you off. Create your
jungle scene in the space below – you either need to use pencil with a range of tones
and shades or you may wish to use. Shade in one direction only. This will be your
assessed piece to be handed in by Friday 1st of May.

areas stand out – in order to make your scene as 3D as possible add casting
shadows to the underneath of your leaves and trees to make them stand off the
page.
