SYNOPSIS - PARA SPORTS HUB
INTRODUCTION
Para sport is able to provide immediate and long-term relief to people with disabilities who are
often plagued with health issues, poor social skills, and lack of self-esteem.
It creates an environment that allows the disabled to develop crucial life skills. Essentially, para-
sport can enhance the lives of the disabled and help them lead more fulfilling and productive life.
The national level includes state wise and interstate competitions carried out every year and at
international level, there are events like paralympic games organized by the international
paralympic committee.
AIM
To design a space that can rehabilitate and empower those physically challenged athletes by
providing the best facilities and amenities for Paralympic training.
The Para sports center should be designed taking into account all their disabilities such as impaired
muscle power, impaired passive range of movements, limb deficiency, leg length difference, short
stature, hypertonia.
OBJECTIVE
Many disabled people who dream to play any sports but find it hard to do so because of various
reasons such as discrimination and tough economic culture. To help each child develop self-
confidence and assume responsibility. To help each child become a useful citizen in his community.
To study about the different sports that come under Paralympics.
To study about facilities that has to be provided for their rehabilitation, strengthening, training and
recreation.
To study characteristics of space that has to be provided and methods by which universal access is
assured in various stages.
NEED
Para athletes have won 12 medals in the paralympic games for India, even though there is no
specialized training centers for them.
A space needs to be created for such Paralympians which exclusively focuses on sports and
provides adequate physical and mental training.
LIMITATIONS
A complete excellence center of this scale and facilities have not been designed in India yet.
Therefore, case studies are not available directly, so it has to be done in parts.
It is a design challenge to incorporate the requirements of various categories of differently abled
people in a single area which is going to be supporting the paralympians.
PROJECT FESIBILITY
According to 2011 census, 2.1% of total India’s population is differently abled.
These data bring about the necessity of a Paralympic Training Centre in India
JUSSTIFICATION
It is our duty to not only give them a chance to protect their rights but also create a change in the
way the society look at them by catching their attention and changing people's perceptions of what
""disability" means and what extraordinary abilities so called disabled actually possess.
The purpose of a Parasports centre is to give them an opportunity to build them up and make them
push themselves to the highest possible limits and to be the pride of their family and in the society.
SCOPE
Social infrastructure and unified approaches and standards for an accessible environment can
rehabilitate the disabled since the current scenario is not disabled friendly.
It could support the educational side by organizing events to honour Parasports, raising public
awareness of their sporting ability, collaborating with international sport associations and
nurturing a sense of recognition and respect in society.

IDENTIFICATION OF SITE
According to the 2011 Census of India, 1 in every 50 Indian citizens (2.2%) is either physically or
mentally disabled.
We aimed to measure the prevalence of disability and describe types of disability in Tamil Nadu
based on the Census 2011 data. We also estimated the distribution of disabilities by gender, age
and geographical regions.
Disability in seeing, hearing, movement and speech was highest in Thiruvarur (238 per 100 000),
Chennai (501 per 100 000), Thoothukkudi (512 per 100 000) and Perambalur (198 per 100 000),
respectively.
Mental retardation (183 per 100 000) and mental illness (86 per100 000) were high in
Nagapattinam and Kanniyakumari, respectively. Ariyalur had a high multiple disability rate (171 per
100 000). We observed that about I in every 100 person in TamilNadu (1635 per 100 000 persons)
is either physically or mentally disabled based on the data of Census 2011.
Persons with disability could have been disadvantaged in getting educated, employed or married
and this might be reflecting high disability rates in those sections of the population observed in our
analysis.
As these districts have a higher disabled population, it will be preferable to build the Centre in any
of these districts. Choosing a site as chennai will be preferable because it is the capital city of the
state and it is a metropolitan city & is easily accessed from other districts and other states also.
SITE CONTEXT
Chennai has the Madras International airport which is one of the busiest airport in India, being well-
connected to most cities in Tamilnadu and other states also.
The chennai central and egmore Junction is equally well-connected with most major long-distance
trains passing through it.It's central location means most cities within overnight distance are
connectec by bus services.
Therefore the city will be highly advanced in terms of overall infrastructure, sustainable real estate,
communications and market viability.
I have chosen the site in Thiruvendhan area. Because it is a very best and calm location. It is
located at the junction connecting East Coast Road to Tambaram, Meicher and Adyar
Mahabalipuram, along Old Mahabalipuram Road. Sholinganallur has the advantage of being at the
junction connecting Tambaram and East Coast Road (ECR) and Adyar along the OMR
TRANSPORT
BY AIR
Chennai International Airport at Meenambakkam is the nearest airport.
BY RAIL
Also, Government is constructing Metro Train-Phase 2 along this route from Madhavaram till SCOP
Siruseri IT park (deadline to be operational for this Corridor-3 and Corridor-5 by 2024/26.
BY ROAD
It is located at the junction connecting East Coast Road to Tambaram, Meicher and Adyar to
Mahabalipuram, along Old Mahabalipuram Road. [12] It is an important junction in Southern part of
Greater Chennai. It is at a distance of 14.5 km from Tambaram, 2 km away from East Coast Road
(ECR), 34.8 km away from Mamallapuram and 13.5 km away from Adyar. Sholinganallur is connected
by road ways. Many IT companies are located within 5 km. It is connected with the city with MTC &
TNSTC-villupuram and many share autorichshaws.
