The Farmer and the Snake
On a bitterly cold winter morning, a kind-hearted farmer walked through his
fields, inspecting his crops. As he stepped over a pile of dried leaves, he noticed
something unusual—a large snake lying motionless on the frozen ground.
The snake’s body was stiff, covered in frost, and its breathing was shallow. The
farmer looked at the creature with pity.
“Poor thing,” he murmured. “It must have been caught in the cold and will
die soon.”
Though he knew snakes were dangerous, the farmer couldn’t bear to see any
creature suffer. He carefully picked up the snake and placed it inside his warm coat.
“I’ll take it home and warm it by the fire,” he thought.
As the farmer walked, he held the snake close to his chest, letting his body heat
thaw the frozen reptile. Slowly, the snake began to move again. Its tongue
flicked out, tasting the air, and its eyes glowed with life.
A Deadly Betrayal
By the time the farmer reached his house, the snake had fully recovered. As he
prepared to set it down near the fireplace, something terrible happened.
Without warning, the snake lunged forward and sank its fangs deep into the
farmer’s chest!
The farmer staggered back, clutching his chest in shock. "Why…? I saved you!"
he gasped, feeling the venom spread through his veins.
The snake slithered away and hissed, “Foolish man! You knew I was a snake
when you picked me up.”
The farmer collapsed to the floor, realizing too late that some creatures will
never change, no matter how much kindness you show them.
