Work List A work list is an instruction file for measuring samples, including patient information
such as measurement type, normal range, and patient name. The work list is
transferred from the Data Management Software (DMS) to the hematology analyzer
and used to control measurement.
Work List Operation Modes The work list has two operation modes: Bar code and No Bar Code.
Bar Code
The bar code reader (option) reads the bar code label on the sample tube to identify
the sample. Make bar code labels for all samples and attach them on the sample
tubes before measurement.
Bar code mode is further divided into 3 modes.
• Stand-alone mode
• Network path mode
• Network communication mode
No Bar Code
The sample is identified by its rack location. Measurement is quicker because there
is no need to make and attach bar code labels. However, you must be sure not to mix
up the samples.
This mode is further divided into 2 modes.

Sending a Work List to the 1. Click [Work list] menu or [Work list] icon on the toolbar on the DMS-Pro
Hematology Analyzer window. The Worklist window opens.
5. Before sending the work list to the hematology analyzer, display the READY or
WORK LIST screen on the hematology analyzer. For details on the hematology
analyzer, refer to the hematology analyzer operator’s manual.
ii) Click [Send to analyzer] on the Worklist window. The work list is sent to the
hematology analyzer and a confirmation dialog box appears on the
hematology analyzer.
iii) Repeat steps i) and ii) to send the work list of other rack IDs.
7. Select [YES] on the dialog box to receive the work list data from the DMS on the
hematology analyzer.
When the work list is sent in No Bar Code mode, the confirmation dialog box
appears for each rack ID. Select [YES] each time the confirmation dialog box
appears.
In Network Path mode, when the DMS receives a work list file
“AutoWorklistData.csv” from other application, it automatically transfers the work
list to the hematology analyzer. The hematology analyzer performs measurement
according to the work list and sends the measured data to the DMS. The DMS
converts the measurement data into CSV and BMP files.
In this mode, another application is required to make a work list file in the specified
folder on the DMS.
NOTE
• The work list must be saved with the file name “AutoWorklistData.csv”.
The work list cannot be automatically read from the work list file if the
file name is incorrect. (Capital letters and small letters of the file name
must be correct.)
• The DMS deletes work list from the DMS when the work list is
transferred to the hematology analyzer.
• Up to 500 data can be registered on the work list.
• Do not register the data of duplicate IDs on the work list.
• Change the display screen on the hematology analyzer to the READY
screen or WORK LIST screen before sending the work list file from the
other application to the DMS. The hematology analyzer must be ready
to receive the work list because the DMS automatically transfers the
work list to the indicated hematology analyzer by USB when it reads
the work list.
• When the hematology analyzer receives the work list, a confirmation
dialog box appears asking whether or not to receive the work list from
the DMS. Click [YES] to receive the work list.
In No Bar Code mode, the confirmation dialog box appears for each
rack ID. If there are work list files for 9 rack IDs, the confirmation
dialog box appears nine times. Select [YES] each time the
confirmation dialog box appears.
• If for any reason the work list is not sent to the hematology analyzer
automatically, display the work list on the Worklist window and click
[Send to analyzer]. Refer to step 6 in the “Sending a Work List to the
Hematology Analyzer” section.
When the DMS has received the measured data from the hematology analyzer, the
measured data is saved in the folder set for “Data save folder” on the Save page of
the Other Settings window. The other application must read the measured data from
this folder.

NOTE
If these settings do not match the server settings, communication is not
possible.
Using Bar Codes When using the optional bar code reader on the hematology analyzer, the bar code
label of the sample can be read by the bar code reader and this code is entered as
the sample ID.
NOTE
• Up to 13 digits can be entered for the ID. If the bar code has more than
13 digits, the ID cannot be entered.
• When the bar code has less than 13 digits, the ID is aligned to the
right. This is the same in the hematology analyzer and DMS.
• When CODABAR (NW-7) is used for the bar code type, a letter from “a”,
“b”, “c” and “d” is assigned to the beginning and end of the ID. When
there are more than 13 digits in the ID because of these start/stop
characters or when you do not want these letters to be included in the
sample ID, change the bar code setting on the hematology analyzer so
that these letters will not be included in the sample ID. Refer to the
hematology analyzer operator’s manual.
• When using the ITF bar code type, IDs may be frequently misread by
the bar code reader when compared to the other types of bar codes,
especially when the printing quality of the label is poor. Be careful not
to mix up samples when using ITF bar codes.
NB
WB
A bar code consists of narrow bars (NB), wide bars (WB), narrow spaces (NS) and
wide spaces (WS). The width of the WB and WS depends on the width of the NB.
The ratio between NB and WB is NB:WB = NS:WS = 1:2 to 1.3. Usually, it is 1:2.5.
For the bar code to be read properly by the bar code reader, attach the bar code
WS
NS label to the sample tube checking the following points. (Refer to the illustration
below.)
• The bar code label length must be within 60 mm.
• NB must be wider than 0.125 mm.
• The bar code width must be 35 mm.
• The left and right margins must be the same size and 10 times larger than NB.
If the bar code cannot be read properly by the bar code reader, check the following
points.
• Bar code is dirty or damaged
• Margin on the bar code is too small
• Bar code print is faint
• Bar code is printed in silver or is covered by laminate film
• The printing quality of the bar code is poor (The printing quality is poor especially
when printed on a dot printer or ink jet printer. When printing on such a printer,
NB must be as wide as possible. If the bar code type is JAN or CODE128, code
may not be read properly.)
• The appropriate bar code type or check digit type is not set on the bar code
reader.
Changing Bar Code Print 1. Click [Options] on the Worklist window to display the setting window.

In the X-R method, hematology control is counted n times (n≥2) every day and daily
_
X (mean values of the first and second counting of the same hematology control
sample) and R (difference between the values of the first and second counting of
the same hematology control sample) are calculated to manage the quality control1).
_
Levey & Jennings used the X-R method clinically, and counted the hematology
_
control twice every day, plotted the X and R graphs and checked if these plots are
within the appropriate range2). However, this method was tedious. Counting the
hematology control once every day was suggested by Henry & Segalov and today
this method is known as Levey & Jennings3).

X-R Program The X-R program calculates and displays the daily X (mean values of the first and
second counting of the same hematology control sample) and R (difference between
the values of the first and second _counting of the same hematology control sample).
_ _ _
The X-R program also calculates X and R (averaged X and R for a number of days).
You can use the data from this program to plot the obtained data for each parameter
for quality control.
Every day the hematology analyzer is used, count the hematology control “n” times
per day (n≥2). Continue the counting for k days (10 to 32 days).
