CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1. 0
Background of Study
The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES)is a laudable
initiative that bridges the gap between theoretical education and
practical skills. By collaborating with local businesses, employers, and
tertiary institutions. SIWES provides students with hands-on experience
in their field of study, thereby enhancing the quality of skilled manpower
in Nigeria. Through SIWES, students gain valuable industry experience,
applying theoretical concepts to real world problems, and developing
essential skills that enhance their employ ability. The scheme also
provides employers with an opportunity to shape the skills of future
employees, ensuring that they meet industry needs. SIWES is a vital
component of Nigeria's efforts to produce well-rounded, industry-ready
graduates, equipped to drive economic growth and development. By
fostering partnerships between academia and industry. SIWES plays a
critical role in shaping the country's future workforce.
The SIWES program is aimed at exposing students to industrial
environment as well as providing them the opportunity to practice,
master and improve their skills. The students during this course are
provided with much information related to their field, they are also
taught industrial and companies etiquette and likewise, they get an eye
opening to the ways of handling responsibilities. The SIWES program of
Ekiti State University is designed for the third year students as a
continuation of their studies during the second semester of the same
year. At the Beginning of the SIWES program, the student's logbook is
provided for the student's use by the institution to serve as a daily
record book of events and work done by the student during the whole
attachment period.
During the attachment period, students are placed under effective
supervision of the industry based supervisors and regularly visited by the
Ekiti State University based supervisors so as to make the program an
overall success.
1. 1 About Industrial Training Fund (ITF)
The Industrial Training Fund(ITF)was established by the Federal
Government of Nigeria in 1971 as a parastatal organization with the
primary objective of promoting and encouraging skill acquisition in

industry and commerce. The ITF is responsible for empowering
individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute to the
growth and development of the Nigerian economy.
Roles of Industrial Training Fund
Provision of direct training, vocational and apprentice training and also
administer the student industrial work experience scheme (SIWES).
Stimulation of human performance, improvement of productivity and to
induce value-added production in industry.
⚫ Organization of conference and seminar on SIWES.
⚫ Compiling the lists of employers' available training places for
industrial attachment and forwarding such lists to the coordinating
agencies (such as NUC, NBTE and NCCE).
⚫ They provide logistic materials needed to administer the scheme in
various places e. g. the logbook etc
1.3. Brief History of SIWES
The Students 'Industrial Work Experience Scheme(SIWES)was initiated
by then Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in 1973. It is a program that
involves the students, the university and the employer of labour. It is
coordinated by the Industrial Training Fund and the National University
Commission and is funded by the Federal Government.
1.4. Objectives of SIWES
1. Make transition from the university to the 'world of work easier and
equip university graduates for employments in the industry.
2. Providing the students with the industrial work situations they are
likely to face after graduation.
3. Exposing students to work method and techniques in handling
equipment and machineries that may not be available in the university.
4. Providing avenue for students in Nigeria University to acquire
industrial skills and experience in their course of study.
5. Providing students with the opportunity to apply their theoretical
knowledge in real world situations thereby bridging the gap between
theory and practical.
6. Preparing the student for employment after graduation.

COMPANY PROFILE
2.0 Brief history of Sunshine Parador Hotel &Lounge
The hotel was established in 2020 during the covid pandemic era. The
Sunshine Parador Hotel & Lounge is a modern hotel located in the heart
of EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY, ADO EKITI NIGERIA. It has hosted many
notable guests,including politicians, celebrities, and businesses.It offers
luxurious accommodations, multiple dining options, a fitness center, and
a swimming pool.
It also have conference halls, meeting rooms, and event spaces to
accommodate variety of business and social gatherings. They are often
used for conferences, seminars, weddings, parties, and other special
events.The hotel is known for its excellent service and convenient
location near the school vicinity. It is a convenient and comfortable place
to stay,and it offers a unique and memorable experience.

Sunshine Parador Hotel &Lounge is a mid-sized hotel with a hierarchical
organizational structure.The hotel is divided into several
departments,each headed by a manager who reports to the hotel's
general manager.The departments include:

⚫ Reception Office: The front office is responsible for check-in,check-
out,and guest services
⚫ Housekeeping: Housekeeping is responsible for cleaning and
maintaining the guest rooms and public areas of the hotel.
⚫ Food and Beverage: Food and beverage is responsible for the hotel's
restaurants,bars,and room service.
⚫ Sales and Marketing: Sales and marketing is responsible for
generating bookings and promoting the hotel.
⚫ Finance: Finance is responsible for the hotel's accounting and
financial reporting.
⚫ Human Resources: Human resources is responsible for
recruiting,training,and development of the hotel's employees.
⚫ Engineering: Engineering is responsible for the maintenance of the
hotel's facilities and equipment.
2.3 Justification for the Choice of Industry
The service institution was chosen because of the accounting skills to be
acquired which are business orientation.

SERVICE RENDERED
Job Description
The job carried on during the industrial training in Sunshine Parador
Hotel &Lounge is the entire job related to the services rendered by
organization and as stated in the attachment (1.T.)to this report,while
the summary of the total work done are stated below.
3.1.1 Posting One
The posting function one given to me during my industrial training
period was in the reception.A hotel receptionist is a crucial member of a
hotel's team,serving as the first point of contact for guests.They play a
vital role in ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for
guests,from check-in to checkout.
Key Responsibilities:
i. Greet and welcome guests upon arrival,creating a positive and
hospitable first impression.
ii. Handling check-in and check-out procedures,verifying guest
information,assigning rooms,and processing payments.
iii. Manage reservations,ensuring accurate records and availability
information.iv.Provide accurate information about hotel
facilities,services,and local attractions.v. FHandle guest requests and
inquiries,addressing concerns promptly and effectively.
Vi. Manage cash transactions,ensuring accuracy and adherence to
accounting procedures.
vii. Maintain guest records and communication logs.
vii. Resolve guest complaints and issues professionally and tactfully.
ix. Promote hotel services and packages to enhance guest satisfaction
and revenue.x.Maintain a clean and organized reception area.
The Services Rendered at the Department;
I. Learned how to keep books of account for all transaction carried out
in the organization.
ii. Preparation of income and expenditure account,so as to know
whether the organization is making a surplus or deficit
iii. Transaction Audit and evaluation check.

3.1.2 Posting Two
My second posting was in Accounting department. As a Hotel
Accountant,I play a crucial role in ensuring the financial accuracy and
stability of our hotel.I was responsible for managing financial
transactions,maintaining accurate records,and providing insightful
financial analysis to support informed decision-making.This role requires
strong attention to detail,financial expertise,and the ability to work
collaboratively with various hotel departments.
Key Responsibilities:
i. Prepare and maintain accurate financial records,including.general
ledger,accounts receivable,and accounts payable.
ii. Generate timely and accurate financial reports,including balance
sheets,income statements,and cash flow statements.
iii. Analyze financial data and prepare reports to provide insights into the
hotels financial performance and identify areas for improvement
iv. Conduct month-end closings and prepare financial statements for
management review.
v. Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable,ensuring timely
collections and payments.
vi. Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts.
vii. Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes to support financial
planning.
viii. Prepare tax returns and other regulatory filings.

EXPERIENCE GAINED AND RELEVANCE TO COURSE OF THE STUDY
4.1 General Experience Gained as a Receptionist and Hotel Accountant
Working as a hotel receptionist and hotel accountant has provided me
with a comprehensive understanding of the hospitality industry and its
financial operations.I have gained valuable experience in various aspects
of hotel management,including:
Guest Relations:
i. Greeting and welcoming guests with a positive and professional
demeanor.
ii. Handling guest check-in and check-out procedures efficiently and
accurately.
Jii .Addressing guest inquiries,requests,and concerns promptly and
effectively.iv. Resolving guest complaints and issues with tact and
diplomacy.
Financial Management:
i. Maintaining accurate financial records,including general
ledger,accounts receivable,andaccounts payable.

Overall,my experience as a hotel receptionist and hotel accountant has

service,maintaining financial integrity,and contributing to a positive and
memorable experience for guests.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS
4.0 SUMMARY
The industrial training at Sunshine Parador Hotel &Lounge Concept
served as a crucial link between academic learning and practical
application. It provided a hands-on learning experience, enhancing
practical competence and skill development. The challenges faced during
the training period honed problem-solving abilities, and the real-world
perspective offered insights into industry dynamics. The training has
made me career-ready, equipping me with the skills and knowledge
necessary for success in the services industry.
4.1 CONCLUSION
As this report draws to a close, it is evident that the industrial training
experience has been transformative. It has enriched my academic journey
and prepared me for a successful professional career. The skills,
knowledge, and principles imbibed during the training will continue to
influence my approach to work and learning.
4.2 RECOMMENDATIONS
While this training experience has been invaluable, there is always room
for improvement. In the spirit of continuous growth, I recommend the
following:
• For future trainees at Tuyi-Manijah Concept, consider a well-
structured orientation and mentorship program to enhance their on
boarding experience.
• The organization might explore the possibility of periodic skill
development workshops to keep staff updated with industry trends
and technologies.
• Encourage an environment of collaboration and idea sharing to
foster innovation and growth within the organization.
