Module name Introduction to Evidence- Based Practice for Nursing

Module code HSC_4_020 2425

This summative assignment requires a 2,500-word essay, demonstrating the


appropriate use of a database to conduct a literature search, recording the results and
referencing accurately on one of the chosen questions below.

• Please choose one (1) of the three research questions presented below

1. What is the most effective management of type 2 diabetes in the elderly?


2. What is the most effective management of osteoporosis in the elderly?
3. What is the most effective method of nutritional assessment in older adult
patients who are admitted to hospital?

• Then conduct a literature search using the CINAHL database identifying Five
(5) studies related to your chosen question.

• Give a brief description of each paper, the findings, relevance to nursing


practice and outline the implications for your practice as an adult nurse.

Structure
Your essay should include the following elements, which should be presented as
subheadings within the text:

Introduction
Introduce the assignment and outline clearly what you aim to do. Define and discuss
the importance of evidence-based practice in relation to your field of nursing including
the use and definition of evidence-based practice models. Additionally, relate to the
NMC code and the chosen research question. (Approx. 400 words)

Search
Describe the search strategy used to identify your 5-literature related to your chosen
question and the reasons why? This should include an outline of how you performed
your literature search i.e. what databases you used, keywords, Boolean phrases,
inclusion and exclusion criteria, any other limits used and provide rationale for these
decisions with references. (Approx. 600 words)

Note: No Prisma diagram is required for this assignment

Discussion
Give a brief description of each of the 5 chosen literatures to answer the following
questions: What were the studies about? How were they conducted? What did they
find? Only about 200 words per paper. (Approx. 1000 words)

Implications for practice


Outline the implications of the findings for your practice as an adult nurse. What has
the evidence added to your knowledge base? What further information would you like
to know? How does the process of searching for the evidence inform your practice?
(Approx. 200 words)

Conclusion
Summarise how you conducted the literature search and the results that you found as
well as the key points from your articles. (Approx. 300 words)

References
Use the LSBU Havard Referencing, it should contain the literature that you have cited
during the essay. A minimum of 15 references and a guide to referencing can be found
on the Moodle site.
