4.3 Upgrading the software

In order to upgrade the AIS transponder and controller, connect the network terminal (LAN) in the back
of controller and PC terminal.
Note 1: To upgrade the controllers for a system where 2 controllers are connected, connect the PC to
each controller one by one.
Note 2: The approximate time required to upgrade each unit is as follows.
NTE-183 AIS TRANSPONDER ............... 3 minutes
NCM-983 AIS CONTROLLER (Main) ...... 5 minutes
NCM-983 AIS CONTROLLER (LAN) ....... 2 minutes

4.3.1 Preparing to upgrade


Prepare the following items before doing an upgrade.

- PC ........................................................ OS: Windows XP/Vista/7, at least 1MB of hard


disk space, LAN port available.
.NET framework 2.0 is installed.

- Upgrade LAN cable ............................... LAN cable (Cat-5)

- Upgrade software ..................................

xxxx indicates the management number. Save in proper folder in
the PC.

- Upgrade tool (PC application) ................ Distribution file "CYC762_UpdateTool_xxxx.zip"


("xxxx" represents the version number)

Install Unzip the distribution file, and then store the above files in a same folder.
Uninstall Remove all installed files.

4.3.2 How to upgrade the units

4.3.2.1 Preparation and start-up


The following explains how to connect with personal computer (PC) and activate the upgrade tool.

Connect the PC to the AIS controller (NCM-983) as follows.

Start the JHS-183 in user mode.


Log on as an administrator of Windows PC.
Confirm the establishment of a connection to the network
Run the upgrade tool (JrcUpdateTool.exe).
(If Windows 7 or Windows Vista has been installed on your PC, Select the pull-down menu
“Run as administrator” and start up the program.)

When starting up the program by “Run as administrator”, select the “YES” button in the
pop-up menu (User Account Control).

4.3.2.2 Tool settings and upgrade procedures


Explanation of upgrade procedure.

Step1; Network settings


Please make sure to select the “LAN” in the [Interface] field.
Select the destination network from the [Network] list. Select the “JRC network” when
upgrading the equipment.

Network name contents IP address


JRC network Standard network of JRC equipment 192.168.60.1 - 192.168.60.254
Light Weight Ethernet (IEC-61162-450)
LWE network 172.16.60.1 - 172.16.60.254
compliant network

* If you use IP address other than above, enter the IP for PC and subnet mask into the [PC IP]
and [Mask].
* If the setting value of “F6.RMS SETTING” in AIS controller, these figures are not changed.

Select the network interface which is used to communication from the [Adapter] list.
Add the IP address for maintenance on the display when clicking the [Set IP] button.
“IP setting is OK.” message screen is appeared, and then click the [OK] button.

Step2; Choice of the equipment

Select the destination equipment from the [Equipment] list


In this case, please make sure to select the “AIS No.1 (IP; 192. 168. 60. 192)”
AIS No.2 is unused because of advanced feature.
In case there is a mismatch between the destination IP, enter the IP address into the
[Equipment IP].
Set the AIS IP (F6.RMS SETTING) to be matched with Equipment IP.

Step3; Choice of the object

Click the [Get version] button, and then the software version is received.
If software version is gotten normally, “OK.” message screen is appeared. Click the [OK]
button.

The [Software] shows of software and versions.


Select the update object from the [Software] list.

Step4; Choice of the update file

Click the [Browse ] button, and open the file selection box.
Select the update file from the file selection box.

Information of the specified file is displayed on [Version] field and [Information] field.

Step5; Update

Click the [Update] button, and start the update.


After the update for equipment is complete, ”Update completed.” message screen is
appeared. And then new software version and old one are appeared on display. Click the [OK]
button and exit out of the screen.

Click the [x] button at the top of the window and exit out of the application.

If the update is interrupted by an obstruction(LAN disconnection etc), the update might be


unsuccessful. In such case, restart by plugging and unplugging the POWER/DATA1 connector in
the rear and then some alarm or screen are displayed as shown below.
DISP APL update failure: RECOVERY MODE
TRX APL update failure: ALARM061
LAN APL update failure: ALARM071
In such case, perform the update again.
If “update completed” screen (shown above) is appeared, the update is successful and done.
