Investigating: seed germination

1. Investigative question: How does a bean seed grow?


2. Skills: Observe and measure

Materials needed:

• soaked bean seed


• cotton wool
• plastic bottle
• water
 Ruler
 Pencil

Instructions:

1. Soak a bean seed in water and wet cotton wool until its skin splits open and a small
root starts to grow.
2. Line the bottom half of a plastic bottle with wet cotton wool.
3. Place the seed between the wet cotton wool and plastic bottle.
4. Make observations and measure every three days to keep track of the growth of the
seed.
5. Make and record your observation in the observation sheet on the next page.
