Moving the pieces:
The movement of pieces is to be done with one hand. Once the hand is taken off a piece after moving it,
the move cannot be retracted unless the move is illegal. As for the touch move rule, if the
referee/organizer who observes a violation of this rule will intervene immediately. A player must claim a
violation of the rule immediately before making a move, or lose the right to claim.
While castling the player should move the king and the rook with the same hand.
In case of promotion, the pawn must be promoted to the choice of the player and promotion is not
finalized unless the player places the new piece on the board.
Sports Events
Chess
Touch-move rule:
In play, if a player having the move touches a piece as if having the intention of moving it, then the
player must move it if it can be legally moved. So long as the hand has not left the piece on a new
square, any legal move can be made with the piece. If a player touches one of the opponent's pieces then
that piece must be captured, if there is a legal move that does so. If none of the touched pieces can be
moved or captured, there is no penalty.
When castling, the king must be the first piece touched. If the player touches the king and a rook, the
player must castle with that rook if it is legal to do so. If the player completes a two-square king move
without touching a rook, the player must move the correct rook accordingly if castling in that direction
is legal. If a player starts to castle illegally, another legal king move must be made if possible, including
castling with the other rook.
Sports Events
Chess
Touch-move rule:
If a player moves a pawn to its eighth rank, it cannot be substituted for a different move of the pawn
when the player has stopped touching it. However, the move is not complete until the promoted piece is
released on that square
If a player touches a piece to adjust its physical position within a square, he must first alert his opponent
by saying "I adjust". Once the game has started, only the player with the move may touch the pieces on
the board
Sports Events
Chess
End of the game:
Win:
A game can be won in the following ways:
Checkmate: The king is in check and the player has no legal move.
Resignation: A player may resign, conceding the game to the opponent. Most tournament players
consider it good etiquette to resign in a hopeless position.
Win on time: In games with time control, a player wins if the opponent runs out of time, even if the
opponent has a superior position, as long as the player has a theoretical possibility to checkmate the
opponent were the game to continue.
Forfeit: A player who cheats violates the rules, or violates the rules of conduct specified for the
particular tournament can be forfeited.
Occasionally, both players are forfeited.

End of the game:
Draw:
There are several ways a game can end in a draw:
Stalemate: If the player to move has no legal move, but is not in check, the position is a stalemate, and
the game is drawn.
Dead position: If neither player is able to checkmate the other by any legal sequence of moves, the game
is drawn. For example, if only the kings are on the board, all other pieces have been captured,
checkmate is impossible, and the game is drawn by this rule.
Draw by agreement: In chess, draws are most commonly reached by mutual agreement between the
players.

Rules and regulations:
1. Players must allow a ball played towards them to bounce once on their side of the table and must return it so
that it bounces on the opposite side at least once.
2. A point is scored when a player fails to return the ball within the rules.
Sports Events
Table Tennis
Important rules:
Tournament
It is not compulsory to remove the hand as it is a strategy for many players.
Throwing the ball at 16 CM should not be accurate as it can just be approximately 10 CM.
It is not a rule to keep your palm open as everyone has different kinds of service.
If the ball touches the edge during the gameplay and the receiver cannot receive it the server team will gain a
point.
If a server misses the first attempt he gets one more chance of service to make (If and only if the ball touches the
net and falls into the next opponent's side).
During a service, if the ball touches the white edge line and the receiver misses to return the ball then the point
is earned by the service end.
If the shot hits the net and crosses the court the game continues.
In singles, it is not compulsory for cross service and the service can be done from any corner.
Sports Events
Table Tennis Tournament
Doubles Rules:
The service must go diagonally, from the server’s right-hand side to the receiver’s right-hand side. This
stops you from getting the opposing pair tangled up before they’ve even hit a ball.
A doubles pair must strike the ball alternately. This makes doubles challenging. None of that front-
court/back-court tennis nonsense.
At the change of service, the previous receiver becomes the new server and the partner of the previous
server becomes the receiver. This makes sure everybody does everything. After eight points you’re
back to the start of the cycle.
Sports Events
Table Tennis Tournament
General Match Play:

1. You have two serves before it is your opponent’s turn to serve twice. This used to be five serves each but
since changing to 11 it’s now just two.
2. At 10-10 it’s deuce. You get one serve each and must win by two clear points. This is sudden death or
table tennis’ equivalent of a tie break.
3. If you are playing a best of 3, 5 or 7 (as opposed to just one set) you have to change ends after each game.
This makes sure both players experience conditions on both sides of the table. You also change ends when
the first player reaches five points in the final game of a match.
Sports Events
Table Tennis Tournament
A point is lost if…
1. The service is missed.
2. The service is not returned.
3. A shot goes into the net.
4. A shot goes off the table without touching the court.
5. A player moves the table, touches the net or touches the table with their free hand during play.

from the timing of the match. Participants are requested to report at least 10 minutes before their
scheduled matches

arguments with the referee or the technical/organizing committee, it could result in disqualification
from the tournament.
