CHAPTER II
Marketing and Economic Aspect

I. Industry Analysis

The fitness industry is growing quickly because more people are now aware of how
important exercise is for their health. Gyms and fitness centers are popular because
they help people stay strong, healthy, and happy. In the Philippines, fitness is becoming
a part of many people’s daily lives, especially in cities like Calamba, Laguna.

In Calamba, there are many gyms, but not all of them focus on being friendly to
beginners or offering affordable packages for students. Some gyms can feel intimidating
or expensive, which makes it hard for some people to join. Flex Fitness sees this as a
big opportunity. By offering a safe, clean, and welcoming space, the gym stands out
from its competitors.Flex Fitness also focuses on trends in the fitness industry, like
personalized training, which is great for beginners, and eco-friendly practices, which are
important for people who care about the environment. The gym also takes advantage of
the growing demand for inclusive fitness spaces where everyone no matter their fitness
level feels comfortable.

Another trend in the fitness world is technology. Many gyms are using apps and online
tools to connect with their members. Flex Fitness can follow this trend by offering a
fitness app in the future. This would help members track their workouts, stay motivated,
and feel more connected to the gym.

By understanding what people in Calamba want and offering services that fit their
needs, Flex Fitness can become one of the most popular gyms in the area. The gym not
only helps people stay healthy but also supports the community and the planet, which
makes it a leader in the local fitness industry

9
II. Business Environment (Size, Nature, and Growth of Total Demand of the
Product, Supply Analysis)

The fitness industry in the Philippines is growing rapidly as more people recognize the
importance of health and wellness. In Calamba, Laguna, this trend is evident, with
increasing demand for gyms and fitness centers that provide accessible and affordable
services. Flex Fitness, located in Batino, Calamba, Laguna, occupies a
336-square-meter space designed to offer state-of-the-art facilities and a welcoming
atmosphere for all fitness levels. The nature of the market is diverse, including
beginners, experienced gym-goers, and athletes who value personalized services,
eco-friendly practices, and inclusivity. Many gyms in the area lack these features,
leaving a gap that Flex Fitness is well-equipped to fill. Its focus on tailored coaching,
affordable student packages, and community-driven activities sets it apart from
competitors and makes it a preferred choice for those seeking more than just a
traditional gym experience.

The demand for fitness services continues to grow as more people adopt healthier
lifestyles. This growth is driven by increased awareness of fitness benefits, government
health campaigns, and the popularity of fitness apps and online communities. Students
and young professionals, in particular, represent a key market segment, as they are
becoming more health-conscious and actively seeking affordable and approachable
fitness options.Although there are several gyms in Calamba, many are either too
expensive or do not prioritize beginner-friendly environments or sustainable practices.
Flex Fitness addresses these shortcomings by offering inclusive facilities, affordable
membership options, and eco-conscious operations. Its location in Batino also makes it
conveniently accessible to residents and workers in the area, further enhancing its
appeal. With its prime location, spacious facilities, and commitment to meeting the
needs of a growing and diverse market, Flex Fitness is well-positioned to thrive in
Calamba’s expanding fitness industry.

15
V. Target Market and Market Shares

A. Target Market

Flex Fitness is located between 2 villages and a College in Batino; as the only
nearby gym within the area, our business’ targets are residents and students within the
locality. Having locals, especially students as our target market, they benefit from our
affordable memberships and cutting-edge equipment. Conveniently located, we provide
a space to relieve stress and achieve fitness goals in a supportive environment. Our
business also offers inclusivity with our programs and accessible equipment for
beginners and individuals with specific needs, ensuring everyone feels welcome.

16
VI. List of Competitors/Competitor Analysis

As per our analysis of the local area, there are currently no fitness-based
businesses within a 10-kilometer radius. This gives us a unique opportunity to
monopolize the fitness community and establish ourselves as the go-to gym for
residents and students in the area. By being the only gym within this radius, we can tap
into an underserved market and build strong brand loyalty.

Our primary competitors would be gyms located outside the 10-kilometer range or
alternative fitness options, such as home workouts or online fitness programs. However,
these options lack the accessibility, sense of community, and state-of-the-art equipment
that our gym will offer. Our location between two villages and a nearby college also
positions us perfectly to cater to a diverse group of potential customers, including
students, young professionals, and families. Additionally, by offering inclusivity and a
welcoming environment, we can stand out from any future competitors that may enter
the area. Our focus on providing high-quality facilities and excellent customer service
will ensure that we remain the preferred choice for fitness enthusiasts in the community.
This strategic advantage allows us to dominate the local fitness market and establish a
strong foundation for growth.

teach you how to exercise safely. Flex Fitness is also eco-friendly, meaning it takes
care of the environment while you get fit.

● Weaknesses (Things That Could Be Better)

Flex Fitness has some things it can improve, especially on services it can give. The
cost to start the gym was very high because of the new equipment and green
practices. The gym might depend a lot on memberships, so if students can’t pay, it
could be a problem. Since it is a new gym, not many people know about it yet, and it
will take time to attract more members. The gym might also run out of space if more
people want to join in the future.

18
● Opportunities (Good Things That Can Happen)

Flex Fitness has a lot of opportunities to expand. More people may want to join since
more people are interested in getting healthy and get in shape. To help other individuals
get in shape, the club may start more branches in other cities. Also to help members
keep track of their efforts and maintain contact with the gym. We could also create a
fitness app, In order to provide exclusive offers and develop new exercise programs for
different lifestyles, the gym could also collaborate with other companies to give more
benefits to our members.

● Threats (Challenges Flex Fitness Might Face)

Flex Fitness could face some challenges. If there’s a bad economy, people might not
want to spend money on a gym, which could reduce memberships. People’s fitness
interests change over time, and Flex Fitness needs to keep up with new trends. Health
and safety rules could limit how many people can come into the gym at once,
especially during health emergencies.

Fitness stands as more than just a place to exercise; it becomes a community, a
lifestyle, and a path to self-improvement

21
VIII. Promotion Strategy
In today’s digital age, social media is a popular tool for promoting businesses, and the
proponents will use that as an advantage to build a strong online presence and interact
with the audience. Flex Fitness focuses on creating unique, engaging and motivating
content that highlights its unique offerings and values. Platforms like TikTok, Instagram,
and Facebook provide ideal spaces to showcase the gym’s services, eco-friendly
actions, and member success stories while having an interactive environment for
followers.

A key component of this strategy is leveraging visually appealing content that connects
with fitness enthusiasts and environmentally conscious individuals alike. High-quality

25
IX. Pricing Strategy
We have decided that our business should target more in the middle-class range
because it strikes a balance between affordability and value. The middle class is
typically price sensitive but also values quality, convenience, and the overall experience.
For those who are often cautious about committing to a gym membership, discounted
offers are a good approach. Promotional deals like “50% off your first month” or “first
week for free” attract the customers to try the gym out before making a longer-term
commitment. By providing a discounted entry point. We can encourage hesitant
customers to join and experience the value of their offerings.

With the pay-as-you-go offer, customers can pay only for what they use, either on a
per-visit or monthly basis, without the need to sign a long-term contract. For those who
are reluctant to commit to a long-term membership due to financial uncertainty or
lifestyle changes.

Customers often look for ways to save money on memberships, especially when many
family members are interested in joining the gym. Offering family memberships or group
pricing is a great way to attract customers and inspire others to go to the gym.
Family-oriented packages or group discounts provide a clear value proposition by
making gym memberships more affordable on a per-person basis. With this pricing
model, clients can be encouraged for long-term memberships, as families or groups are
more likely to stick with a gym that offers savings for multiple members, making a sense
of community and more appealing in the social space.

26
X. Channel Distribution
Flex Fitness heavily relies on using social media platforms to reach and engage the
target audience effectively. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Youtube have a lot of
impact for promoting our gym, sharing the success stories, and showcasing the
facilities and classes we offer. Using paid social media ads with precise targets can
draw members. A strong social media presence not only raises awareness but also
creates a channel for direct communication and smooth membership sign-ups.

Utility Requirements

In order to maintain our business, we will be needing electricity to keep our area lit up

and our machines for gym equipments up and working. As for our restrooms, we will be

61
needing a water system to keep our showers and faucets functionable

Utilities:

● Electricity - The gym will require a stable electricity supply to power equipment,

lighting, and air conditioning. We will connect to the local grid and ensure a reliable

connection.

● Water - The gym will need a continuous water supply for restrooms, showers,

and cleaning purposes. We will be connected to the local water system.

● Phone Service’ - We will install a phone line for communication with clients, staff,

and suppliers. The service will be with a reliable local provider.

● Security - The gym will have 24/7 security through a combination of surveillance

cameras and an alarm system. We will also have a security guard during operating

hours.

CHAPTER IV
Management Aspect

I. Legal Structure and Ownership

Flex Fitness will operate as a sole proprietorship, with the owner managing all
aspects of the business. As the sole proprietor, the owner will have full control over the
gym’s operations, including financial management, marketing strategies, employee
supervision, and overall decision-making. This structure allows for streamlined
management and quick implementation of business strategies, ensuring that Flex

62
Fitness operates efficiently and aligns with its mission of providing an inclusive and
sustainable fitness environment.

Advantages of Sole Proprietorship:

1. Full Control – The owner has complete authority over business decisions,
allowing for quick adaptability and direct oversight.
2. Simple Registration & Low Cost – Setting up a sole proprietorship is easier
and less expensive compared to corporations or partnerships.
3. Direct Profit Ownership – All profits generated by Flex Fitness go directly to the
owner, without the need for profit-sharing.
4. Easier Tax Management – Unlike corporations, a sole proprietorship has fewer
tax obligations and simpler tax filings.
5. Personalized Customer Service – With direct management, the owner can
focus on maintaining strong customer relationships and ensuring quality service.

Disadvantages of Sole Proprietorship:

1. Unlimited Liability – The owner is personally responsible for all debts and
liabilities of the gym, which could put personal assets at risk.
2. Limited Capital – Funding is restricted to personal savings and loans, which
may limit expansion opportunities.
3. Heavy Workload – Managing all aspects of the business alone can be stressful
and time-consuming.
4. Business Longevity – The business is tied to the owner's management, making
it harder to continue operations if they step away.
5. Difficulties in Expanding – Growth may be slower due to limited resources and
financial backing.

inside the gym. This will help more people know that the gym is hiring. The job
posts will include details like job roles, needed skills, and salary. The gym
manager will also ask current employees if they know someone who might be a
good fit. This makes it easier to find the right people quickly.

● Application Submission
People who want to apply will send their resumes and job applications online or
in person. The HR team will check if they have the skills and experience needed
for the job. Applicants must give complete details about their past jobs,
education, and skills. If an application is missing important details, it may not be
considered. Only those who meet the requirements will move to the next step.

● Initial Screening & Interview

The HR team will invite selected applicants for an interview. The interview will
help the gym know if the person is right for the job. They will be asked about their

69
past jobs, skills, and how they handle different situations. The interviewer will
check if they can communicate well and work as a team. If they do well, they will
move to the next step.

● Skills Assessment
Some jobs, like fitness trainers, will require a skills test. Trainers may need to
show how they teach exercises, create a workout plan, or guide a client. For
cashiers and receptionists, a short test on computer use and customer service
may be given. This will help the gym see if they can do the job well. Only those
who pass the test will move to the next round.

● Final Interview & Job Offer

If an applicant does well in the interview and skills test, they will meet with the
gym manager or owner for a final interview. They will talk about their contract,
salary, work schedule, and job duties. If the gym selects them, they will get a job
offer. The job offer will include details like pay, work hours, and benefits. If the
applicant accepts, they will move to the next step.

● Background Check & Requirements Submission

Before hiring, the gym will check the applicant’s background and past jobs. They
will need to submit valid IDs, police clearance, and a medical certificate. This
helps the gym make sure they are hiring a good and trustworthy person. If there
are any problems in the background check, the gym may not continue with the
hiring. Once everything is complete, they are officially part of the team.
● Training & Orientation
New employees will have a short training session before they start
working. They will learn about gym rules, customer service, and safety
procedures. Trainers will practice guiding clients and using gym equipment
correctly. Receptionists and cashiers will learn how to handle payments and

70
answer customer questions. This training helps employees feel ready and
confident before starting their jobs.

● Probationary Period
New employees will be on probation for three to six months. During this
time, the gym will check if they are doing their jobs well. Employees who work
hard and follow the rules will be given a permanent job. Those who struggle may
get extra training, but if they do not improve, they may not continue working at
the gym. This step helps the gym keep only the best workers.

81
establishes the business as a recognized entity within the barangay and is a
prerequisite for obtaining other permits.
2. Mayor’s Business Permit - The Mayor’s Permit legally authorizes the gym to
operate within the city or municipality while ensuring compliance with zoning
laws, safety regulations, and tax obligations. It is essential for maintaining a
law-abiding and properly regulated business.
3. DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) Permit - DTI registration is required
for sole proprietorship businesses to obtain a legal business name and operate
formally. It ensures that the gym follows fair trade practices and is recognized as
a legitimate entity in the market.
4. DOLE (Department of Labor and Employment) Registration - The purpose of
registering with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is to ensure
the gym complies with labor laws and standards, safeguarding employee rights
and promoting fair workplace practices. It also establishes the business as a
legitimate and law-abiding employer.
5. Community Tax Certificate (Cedula) - A Cedula serves as proof that the
business owner has paid the community tax, which is required for various legal
transactions. It is a basic document that establishes the gym owner's identity and
contribution to local governance.
6. Sanitary Permit - The Sanitary Permit ensures that the gym meets health and
hygiene standards set by the local health department. It is crucial in maintaining
cleanliness and preventing health hazards in a facility where people engage in
physical activities.
7. Bureau of Fire Permit - A Bureau of Fire Permit certifies that the gym follows
fire safety regulations and has the necessary fire prevention measures in place.
This permit helps protect employees, clients, and property from potential fire
hazards.
8. Register with SSS, Philhealth & Pag-ibig - Employers are required to register
with SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG to provide employees with essential benefits
such as social security, healthcare, and housing assistance. You must notify the
BIR, SSS, Pag-Ibig fund, and PhilHealth each time you hire someone.

Security System (SSS) is to provide employees with financial security during

82
gym complies with legal requirements and supports the well-being of its

have access to affordable healthcare services and financial assistance during
medical needs. It demonstrates the gym's commitment to promoting the health
and welfare of its staff while adhering to national healthcare regulations.
● PHILHEALTH employer’s registration - Registering with the Pag-IBIG Fund
allows employees to save for future housing needs and access affordable
housing loans. This supports employees’ long-term financial goals and reflects
the gym's role as a responsible employer focused on staff welfare.

CHAPTER VI
Socio-economic Aspect
I. Social Implications
Flex Fitness supports openness, a sense of community, and personal health, all
of which have important social impacts. It serves as an intimate place for fitness lovers
of all skill levels, encouraging friendship through group classes, shared fitness goals,
and an accepting environment that promotes personal growth. By encouraging people

97
to adopt healthier lifestyles and helping in the removal of stereotypes connected to
mental health and body image, the gym fosters a culture of wellbeing. But who can use
its services depends on pricing and accessibility, which may worsen discrimination. Flex
Fitness can promote social unity and enable people to reach their fitness objectives by
focusing accessibility and offering programs for all kinds of needs.

II. Economic Implications

While Flex Fitness aims to provide an inclusive and accessible fitness space,
certain economic challenges may impact its operations. One major concern is economic
instability, which can affect consumer spending habits. During financial downturns,
people may prioritize essential expenses over gym memberships, leading to a decline in
revenue. Additionally, the high initial investment required for equipment, rent, staff
salaries, and utilities can put financial strain on the business, especially in its early
stages. Rising operational costs due to inflation, increasing utility rates, and potential tax
adjustments may further impact profitability, making it crucial to maintain a steady flow
of members to cover expenses. Another challenge is competition and market shifts.
While there are currently no direct competitors in the area, future gyms or alternative
fitness options, such as home workouts, online coaching, and budget-friendly
community fitness programs, could draw potential customers away. If competitors offer
lower membership fees or better incentives, Flex Fitness may need to adjust pricing or
increase marketing efforts, both of which can affect financial stability. To mitigate these
risks, the gym must continuously adapt through strategic pricing, membership
promotions, and diversified revenue streams, such as fitness merchandise or digital
training programs. By staying competitive and responsive to market changes, Flex
Fitness can work towards long-term success despite economic uncertainties.

III. Environmental Implications

The proposed project doesn’t cause harm to the environment, directly or
indirectly, for the materials bought by the proponents are machineries that are usable by
guests and does not produce any waste. If anything, Flex Fitness encourages
environmental cleanliness through the support of no littering policies and placing of
trash bins throughout the commercial space.
