Exercise 3
Given: Weight = 1815 N Force = 442 N Area = 50.2 cm2 Area2 = ?
Formula: P1=P2
F1 / A1 = F2 / A2
A2 = (F2*A1) / F1
Solution: A2 = (1815 N * 50.2 cm2) / 442 N
Answer : 206.14 cm2
Exercise 4
A. Given: Mass = 54 g Density = 2.7 g / cm3 Volume = ?
Formula: V = Mass / Density
Solution: V = 54 g / 2.7 g/cm3
Answer : V = 20 cm3
B. Since the density of the ball is greater than the density of water, the ball will sink. The volume
of water that will spill out is equal to that of the ball, which is 20 cm3.
C. Given: Volume of object(V) = 20 cm3 Density of fluid(Pf) = 1.0 g / cm3 g = 9.8 m/s2 Fb = ?
Formula: Fb = Vg Pf
Solution: Fb = 20 cm3 * 1.0 g / cm3 * 980 cm/s2
Answer : Fb = 19600 dynes or .196 N
Exercise 5
1) Given : V1 = 1.0 m/s P1 = 200000 Pa P2 = 101300 Pa p = 1000 kg/m3 V2 = ?
Formula: ½ * p * (V1)2 + P1 = ½ * p * (V2)2 + P2
Solution : ½ * 1000 kg/m3 * (1.0 m/s)2 + 200000 Pa = ½ * 1000 kg/m3 * (V2)2 * 101300 Pa
V2 = √ (2 / 1000 kg/m3)(½ * 1000 kg/m3 * (1.0)2 + 200000 – 101300)
Answer : V2 = 14.09 m/s
2) Given : P1 = 101300 pa P2 = 202600 Pa p = 789 kg/m3 g = 9.8 m/s2 h =?
Formula : ρg h1 + P1=ρg h2 + P2
Solution: h = (101300 pa – 202600 Pa) / (789 kg/m3 * 9.8 m/s2)
Answer : - 13.1 meters therefore it will need to drop at a height of 13.1 meters
