Designation: Assistant
Course Facilitator: Sushma J
Professor
CIE:30 Marks SEE: 70 Marks Exam Hours: 03

1. BRIEF COURSE OUTLINE

Operations Research involve the systematic investigation of phenomena using statistical,
mathematical, or computational techniques. These methods are widely used across various
disciplines like economics, psychology, business, and natural sciences to analyze numerical
data and uncover patterns, relationships, or trends.
2. COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Ability to understand and analyze managerial problems in industry so that they are able
to use resources (capitals, materials, staffing, and machines) more effectively.
2. Knowledge of formulating mathematical models for quantitative analysis of managerial
problems in industry.
3. Skills in the use of Operations Research approaches and computer tools in solving real
problems in industry.
4. Mathematical models for analysis of real problems in Operations Research
5. To build capabilities in the students for analyzing different situations in the industrial/
business scenario involving limited resources and finding the optimal solution within
constraints.
6. Develop mathematical skills to analyze and solve integer programming and network
models arising from a wide range of applications.

3. COURSE OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the course, the students will be able to;
1. Understand the application of Operation Research and frame a Linear Programming
Problem with solution – graphical and through solver add in excel (software).
2. Analyze any real-life system with limited constraints and depict it in a model form.

MBA/2023-24/Odd/Course Facilitator’s Master Course File

3. Build and solve Transportation and Assignment problems using appropriate method.
4. Design and solve simple models of CPM and queuing to improve decision making and
develop critical thinking and objective analysis of decision problems.
5. Solve simple problems of replacement and implement practical cases of decision making
under different business environments.
6. Take best course of action out of several alternative courses for the purpose of achieving
objectives by applying game theory and sequencing models.
7. Understand different queuing situations and find the optimal solutions using models for
different situations.
8. Develop a report that describes the model and the solving technique, analyse the results and
propose recommendations in language understandable to the decision-making processes in
Management
