A. Pre reading
1. Motivation
The teacher will show a picture of a Goose and ask the student if they have a Goose on their
home ?
2. Vocabulary Development
The students will give the meaning of the words below using a dictionary
Laid foolish
Egg stomach
Goose blood
After knowing the meaning of the words the students will use each word in a
sentence.
B. During Reading
1. The teacher will give the students the copy of the short story entitled The
Golden Egg written by Sagari Gongala. The students will read silently.
2. As the students read the text the teacher will ask the students to underline
the characters ,the setting and the words listed in the vocabulary
development.
The Golden Egg

Once upon a time, a farmer had a goose that laid a golden egg every day. The
egg provided enough money for the farmer and his wife for their day-to-day
needs. The farmer and his wife were happy for a long time. But one day, the
farmer got an idea and thought, “Why should I take just one egg a day? Why
can’t I take all of them at once and make a lot of money?”
The foolish farmer’s wife also agreed and decided to cut the goose’s stomach
for the eggs. As soon as they killed the bird and opened the goose’s stomach,
to find nothing but guts and blood. The farmer, realizing his foolish mistake,
cries over the lost resource!
C. Post reading
The teacher will ask the student the following questions
1. Who are the characters in the story?
2. When and where did the story happen?
3. What did the farmer do to the goose?
4. Why did they kill the goose?
5. What did the goose give them everyday?
6. If you are the farmer would you do the same?

Here are five lines from The Golden Egg.Put them into the correct order to find
out how have been the life of the Goose in the foolish farmer.
