The SPEC Technique
The SPEC Technique
All this work she did, has been summarized into a four-letter formula SPEC:
1. S-elect it. The first step is to select the thing you wish to have. Choose exactly what must it be, with as
much detail as possible: the brand, the color etc. You have to know exactly what you want.
2. P-roject it. The next thing is to imagine yourself already having it. If it’s about your new car, then how do
you feel sitting in it? What's the scent your nostrils catch inside? How the engine sounds? How soft is the
seat you are sitting in? What is it made of? Imagine driving it, cleaning it etc. The more detail, backed with
positive emotions (this is important!), the better.
After entering a contest and waiting for the results, Helene always did this visualization every single day
and continuously. It is also important to have faith, so that no negative feelings and doubts will arise. If they
do, they simply neutralize the positive work you have done and there will be no result at all.
3. E-xpect it. You must be absolutely certain that the thing will come. No doubts. It’s like ordering
something from a catalog: you have the certainty that it’ll come, only time may vary.
4. C-ollect it. Now it’s time to get it. You may be required to take some small action to actually go and
receive it.
It’s important to be focused on the end result, and not the means to reach it. Helene Hadsell never thought
how a contest jury must decide to give her the prize, or how fierce the competition was, or about the
source that the thing must come from. She just kept believing and sending out positive energy.
One thing she always said, is that there is no failure, only delay in results. When after weeks or months of
projecting and expecting there is still no sign of the desired thing, you still have be patient and continue
believing – it’s just another delay in results.
