Ironing is the use of a heated tool (an iron) to
remove wrinkles from the fabric. The heating is
commonly done to a temperature of 180°C -
220°C, depending on the fabric.
It is a collapsible
padded board, used
as a working
surface for ironing.
It is a small appliance: a
handheld piece of
equipment with a flat,
roughly triangular
surface that, when
heated, is used to press
clothes to remove
creases.
Even with a good-quality
steam iron, it can be helpful to
add a mist of dampness to
particularly stubborn wrinkles
and creases. A handy spray
bottle for water gives you just
the right wrinkle-fighting
boost. Some bottles can also
be used to spray liquid starch
or sizing.
-are pieces of fabric used to
protect the item being ironed.
Place it between the face of
the iron (i.e. soleplate) and
the wrinkled item. If desired,
dampen the cloth before
ironing to create steam to
help subdue wrinkles.
This solid wood
accessory with a cotton
cover includes a free
arm that allows the
entire sleeve to be
ironed. It also
accommodates small,
hard-to-reach areas.
this firmly stuffed wool-
and-cotton-covered
cushion is used for
molding and shaping
darts.
Similar to a tailor's
ham, the seam roll is a
wool-and-cotton-
covered form that is
stuffed to offer a firm
surface upon which to
press long seams and
narrow areas.
This heat-resistant mat
easily turns a flat
surface, such as the top
of a washer or dryer, into
an ironing board. Heavy
magnets sewn into the
mat's corners help it stay
in place.
These products help clothes
look and stay crisp by
facilitating a smooth finish
and sharp creases. Use
starch for natural fabrics such
as cotton. Use sizing for
synthetics. Spray lightly from
several inches away before
ironing.
Commercial scented
ironing water can be
poured into your iron's
reservoir and steamed
onto your clothes to add
a fresh, clean scent as
you iron.

4. Pressing cloth 9. Spray starch and sizing
5. Sleeve board 10. Ironing water
The iron with up to three dots allows for
ironing. The number of dots is assigned
temperatures: One point means 110°C,
two points means 150°C and three points
means 200°C. An iron with a cross
prohibits ironing.
1. Start ironing with the 1 dot garments, finish with 3 dot clothes. This
way, delay between items (because the iron needs to cool down) as
well as damage to clothes can be avoided.
2. It is also important to bear in mind that a reduced number of dots
means that you must be more careful in choosing your ironing
method.
a) One dot: Iron with a press cloth or inside out. Apply caution when
using steam irons (as a rule, try to work without steam). Do not
deform.
b) Two dots: Iron under a moderately moist cloth. A steam iron may
be used. Avoid heavy pressure. Do not deform.
c) Three dots: iron while damp; treat and if necessary
moisten; shiny or pressure-sensitive pieces should be
ironed with press cloth or ironed inside out. A steam
iron may be used.
3. Immediately place the ironed clothes on clothes
hangers, but give them time to cool before storing in
the closet.
